Dryandra Primary School An Independent Public School
9 SEPTEMBER 2020 Number 8
Dear Parents and Carers You may have seen our new ‘Positive Behaviour Support’ school signs going up and around the school. Don’t they look magnificent? These signs link to our behaviour expectations and values. The positive behaviour support framework, along with our focus on social and emotional development, has contributed to our calm learning environment. We are dealing with far less behavioural issues and our suspension levels have dropped to a historic low. Our students are learning how to manage their behaviour, practicing and responding to the expectations and enthusiastically embracing our new incentive system. You may have heard about all of the wonderful ways that teachers are rewarding their students. It is great to see! A big thank you to our ‘Positive Behaviour Committee’ who have worked so diligently and enthusiastically to support our students and school. Well done to Mrs Bradstreet, Mrs Brown ,Mr Cumming, Mrs Clough, Mrs Kroczek, Mrs Warr and Mrs Reza Zadeh. Parent Surveys Thank you to all of our parents who completed the surveys and provided us with feedback. This was important given the difficulties that we have had this year with COVID and the reduction in the community interaction. I am pleased to see that our parents have continued to respond positively to our school. Here are some of the areas which demonstrated parent satisfaction in relation to our school. The following percentages include a combination of agree or strongly agree to the various statements. Teachers at this school expect my child to do their best 97% Teachers at the school provide my child with useful feedback about their work 94% Teachers at this school treat students fairly 92% My child feels safe at school 97% I can talk to my child’s teacher about my concerns 93% Student behaviour is well managed at this school 84% The school looks for ways to improve 93% This school takes parents’ opinion seriously. 82% This school is well led. 80% Overall the results were pretty positive. I would like to thank and acknowledge our school community for your feedback. This information will be discussed at the School Board and recommendations for improvement will be considered. Athletics Carnival – Jumps and Throws (16 September 2020) Thank you to our parents and members of the community for attending our carnival on Friday. It was a spectacular turn out and a great community event. A special thank you to Andi Hancock for organising the sausage sizzle for the P&C and to the volunteers who offered to help. This event helped to raise important funds for our P&C. Well done everyone! I would like sincerely thank the members of the PE committee for all their hard work and efforts in coordinating the modified athletics carnival. This was organised with the precautions of the COVID restrictions and it was therefore modified. Keeping students actively involved was the focus and next year we intend to include the team games as well. Thank you to everyone for your positive approach and understanding. Thank you to Mr McGeever, Ms Young, Mrs Fairhead, Mr Plummer and Mr Cumming for all of their hard work and effort. Thank you also to all our wonderful staff who assisted with the carnival and then helped to improve the physical education skills of our students. Next week we will be hosting our jumps and throws competition. We invite all of our parents and members of the community to conclude the carnival result. Thank you Paul Biemmi

ROOM 18 Room 18 have been studying electricity this term for Science. We viewed the work of an African inventor William Kamkwamba who, at the age of 14, designed a windmill to harness the wind and produce electricity for his village. The students were fascinated and we did extra research and linked to diary writing. As part of their research, they discovered his birthday was on 5th Aug -so I surprised them with a birthday cake ‘Happy Birthday William.’ Calvin and Mr Ward set to work to send the photos and email to Mr K who is now 33 , lives in San Francisco and does TED talks, author etc. Students were delighted to get his return email. (Reply from William) Hi Calvin and Room 18, Thank you for your kind message and birthday wishes. The cake looks amazing, I hope you all enjoyed it. I wish you the very best with your studies moving forward. It seems like you have a very great and caring teacher, please thank them for me. William
