When Roald was young, just like you, he....
• Was born in 1916, in Wales (pssst…that’s in the United Kingdom)
• Loved stories & books about trolls & mythical creatures
• Had a secret diary (he hid it in a tree!)
• Hated school & loved candy • Was told by his English teacher that
he was a HORRIBLE writerWOW!
When he got a bit older, like you will someday, he....
• Decided to travel the world! – So he moved to Africa
• Learned to fly an airplane to fight in World War II– His plane crashed in the desert…ouch!!
• Moved to America • Wrote his first book, The Gremlins– Walt Disney loved the book & wanted him to make a movie about it!
• Married Patricia Neal and had 5 children• Wrote until his peaceful death in 1990. He was
74 years old.
