Welcome to Drug Discovery Digital

A very warm welcome to the first Drug Discovery Digital Conference! When we started planning the Drug Discovery 2020 event a year ago we were expecting to be welcoming you through the doors of London ExCel and would never have thought we would find ourselves conducting the meeting in a virtual environment. The world around us has changed dramatically since then, and we find ourselves in very challenging and uncertain times. With that ELRIG UK has also needed to evolve, but the need for connectivity and engagement across the life sciences and technology communities has never been stronger and the ELRIG team have worked incredibly hard to ensure that we maintain that connectivity through our webinar series and now at the first fully virtual ELRIG conference. ELRIG Drug Discovery Digital has all the components you would expect from an ELRIG DD

meeting, centred around a world class scientific programme of speakers, running across 8 tracks and 8 days so you no longer have to choose between your favourites! I would like to thank Chun-Wa Chung (GSK), Katy Kettleborough (LifeArc) and Ian Waddell (Charles River Laboratories), our conference directors, for their hard work to pull together such a outstanding programme. I would also like to thank each and every one of our speakers and session chairs for their contributions to the meeting and incredible flexibility in working with us to pivot a face to face programme to an online event over just a few short months.

Of course no ELRIG Drug Discovery meeting would be complete without a vendor exhibition and we are delighted to welcome so many vendor exhibitors and sponsors to the virtual exhibition floor within Drug Discovery Digital. ELRIG meetings could simply not take place without the support of our vendor sponsors and the interactions on the exhibition floor to discuss the latest technology breakthroughs and catch up with colleagues old and new are at the core of our meetings. Whilst it will feel somewhat different in the virtual environment, the online platform that the ELRIG team, together with our colleagues at Eventflo, have created is second to none and I encourage you to explore the exhibition and engage with the vendors just as you would at a face to face event, the only difference being that you can do it from the comfort of your home office, although unfortunately you will have to provide your own lunch!

Beyond the talks and the exhibition we also have a whole host of other activities for you to enjoy including the virtual poster sessions, interactive workshops and a number of events specifically for our Early Career Professional Community. Finally, we also have a couple of ‘Meet the ELRIG Board’ events where we would encourage you to come and say hi if you would like to know more about how you can get involved in the ELRIG UK volunteer community. We are looking for additional members for a number of our volunteer work groups, particularly, although not exclusively, from the early career professional community, and are always keen to have new faces and ideas on the team.

Finally, and most importantly, I would like to thank and congratulate the ELRIG office team led by Sanj Kumar, for their tireless efforts to put together this event. It is simply staggering what Sanj, together with Tara Shanks, Clare Cockerham and Rhona Bennett have achieved in such a short time frame this year, literally building the virtual event from scratch. I would also like to thank all of you for attending and your continued support of ELRIG UK. As we plan for further virtual events in early 2021 we would also very much welcome your feedback on what were your highlights of the event and if there are improvements we can make.

I hope you enjoy the event and I look forward to seeing you in the virtual sessions!

Melanie Leveridge(GlaxoSmithKline & ELRIG Chair)
