ABOUT THE SHOW

The original Broadway production of The Drowsy Chaperone was

produced by Kevin McCollum, Roy Miller, Bob Boyett, Stephanie

McLelland, Barbara Freitag and Jill Furman.

The winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original

Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age

musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after

another.

With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts

on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical.

The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as

the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their

wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-

bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don

Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an

evening of madcap delight.

Hailed by New York Magazine as “The Perfect Broadway Musical,” The

Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the

tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre.

MEET THE DIRECTORS

Dayna Strickland, Director Dayna has been working with Pope Drama all year and she is SO excited and SO sad to see the last show of the year go up for you all to enjoy. Day went to Western Carolina University where she attended the School of Stage and Screen and studied under the Broadway legend Terrence Mann, and received a BFA in Theatre with a concentration in Acting. During school she worked in Ohio where she trained in the art of stage combat through the SAFD. Post graduation she immediately

moved to the majestic NYC where she fell in love with improv thorough her training at The Upright Citizens Brigade but then shortly realized, “hey it’s cold here” and moved to Atlanta, which was the best decision of her life because she met her (now) husband shortly after and discovered her love for teaching. When she isn’t directing a show, Day is either traveling around presenting educational theatre for schools or teaching/coaching out of her own studio in Atlanta. She wants to thank the dedicated parents of Pope Theatre, for without them we would be nothing and because of them we are a great theatrical force. She also wants to thank her husband for loving her every day and being so supportive of her career. Over this school year Day has fallen head over heels for all the kids and parents involved in drama and she is so proud of them! “Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives, you have changed mine forever and I love you all for it.”

Jaclyn Helms, Choreographer Jaclyn was raised near Asheville, NC where she first got a taste for dance at the age of 12. She immediately became involved in children’s theatre and dance. Later, she attended Western Carolina University’s acting program. She graduated with a B.F.A. in Acting for stage and screen, and minored in dance. Film became a big love for Jaclyn at WCU, so upon graduation she moved to Wilmington, NC where she was known for her stand-in work on Eastbound and Down and the

independent film, River Guard. She quickly decided to come to Atlanta to pursue her career in film acting. Her latest work has been a feature in the

new film Table 19 staring Anna Kendrick and Wyatt Russell. However, Jaclyn still has the urge to dance and choreograph more. Her choreography has been seen in EDIN’s annual Celebrity Dance Challenge to make awareness for eating disorders, with dance partner Brian Moote from the Bert Show. She has studied ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and modern for over 12 years, and is so thankful to have the opportunity to teach such an inspiring group of students. She would like to thank Pope High School for bringing her back to where her love for entertainment began.

Jennifer Loudermilk, Music Director Jennifer is thrilled to be music directing such a phenomenal cast. She began studying voice over 25 years ago. She has several years of experience teaching voice privately as well as music directing at various theatres in the metro Atlanta area. She studied Education at East Carolina University and is a recent graduate from Kennesaw State University with a degree in Modern Languages and Cultures and a concentration in Spanish Education. She was also a member of the KSU Women’s Chorus. Her teachers and coaches have included Marshall E. Butler Jr., Dr. Janna K. Brendell, Elaine Diab-Baker, Dr. Kevin R. Hibbard and Dr. Alison Mann. Jennifer currently studies voice with longtime Atlanta teacher and Julliard graduate, Erin Coleman. Jennifer is a member of Collegium Vocale Choir at Emory University as well as a member of the Epsilon Alpha chapter of Sigma Beta Sorority. She was nominated for 2 Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre (MAT) awards in their 2011 season one for Best Music Direction for Into the Woods with CCT and one for Best Supporting Actress as Asaka in Once On This Island at Act3 Productions. Jennifer was also nominated in the 2013 MAT Award season for Best Supporting Actress as Paulette Bonafonté in Legally Blonde. Most recently, she was nominated in the 2014 MAT Award season for Best Music Direction for The Great American Trailer Park Musical as well as winning Best Major Supporting Actress as Bad Ass Betty in the same musical. Other acting and directing credits include: Titanic: The Musical, All Shook Up, Cats, Rent, Godspell, Once Upon a Mattress, By Wheel and By Wing (staged reading), Seussical, Songs for a New World, Hairspray, How To Succeed in Business among many others. When not teaching or performing in productions, she sings with her mother Anneice across the United States and abroad. Thank you to all that have helped and supported this production, it could not have happened without you. Enjoy the show!

How are the kids? Or who’s your favorite character? Have you finished the show? Did you like it? I know, it’s crazy right? At least I thought so. We had such a good time making the show the best it could be. The cast worked really hard on it, so yeah. If you liked our performance this won’t be the last time you see most of us. Maggie Sides (Mrs. Tottendale) Maggie is ecstatic to be playing Mrs. Tottendale in her first musical at Pope! You may have seen her recently as Scar in the Lion King Jr., Lucy in Aliens vs. Cheerleaders, or Ted in Peter and the Starcatcher. She would like to thank God for giving her the talent to be in this show, her parents for being just as committed as her, her brother for putting up with her nonstop singing, and the directors for helping to put this show together. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Lydia Seremba (Trix, the Aviatrix/ Ensemble)Lydia is more than excited to be involved in her 2nd Pope production! You may recognize her as Fighting Prawn/Grempkin from Peter and the Starcatcher. She has been enjoying this passion of theater since 3rd grade and is thrilled to share her love of the arts with the cast and you! She hopes you enjoy the show!

Emma Wohlfarth (Superintendent/Ensemble)Emma is jazzed to be working with Pope Drama once again to bring the hilarious The Drowsy Chaperone to life on stage for you all. She had the honor of performing in Peter and the Starcatcher with Pope Drama as an ensemble member, as well as performing as such in many other productions within the community. She hopes to keep the fire burning strong as a senior next year, and cannot express how much she will miss those leaving for greater theaters this year. Enjoy the show! It’s an odd and wacky show you’re sure to remember!

Abigail Wohlfarth (Ensemble)Abigail Wohlfarth is super excited to be a part of her first production at Pope High School! She transferred into Pope this year as a junior and could have asked for a better drama family. She can’t wait to be able to make more drama memories in her senior year next year!

Matthew & Megan, You both are the source of our greatest pride - not only in your hard work in everything you put your mind to, but most importantly, our hearts swell as we watch you two remain the best of friends since the day Megan arrived. We knew it would be special when Matthew chose to hold Megan instead of the giant Winnie the Pooh bear waiting for him at the hospital! We are so glad you have shared this theatre journey together and look forward to the many journeys you two will share for years to come now matter how much distance may be between you. Love, Mom & Dad
