There is no better time to visit Walt Disney World Resort than now. The fall season quickly leads to the holidays, and both times can be magical at Disney World. During September and October, Epcot features a Food and Wine Fest that features an eclectic blend of foods and beverages as well as a taping of the famous food show “The Chew.” If your timing is right, you can attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, where everyone is invited to dress up and trick or treat, enjoy the fun-filled shows, and finish the day with a spectacular fire-works display. If you choose to finish out your year with a Disney vacation, you can plan to enjoy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas events throughout the park. There will be snow on Main Street, sounds of the season, and a special Christmas parade so all of the Disney favorites can cele-brate with you. Epcot features a candle-light processional as well as culinary delights of the season. Disney is magical all year round – why not take advantage of their offerings now, and treat your fam-ily to a Disney vacation full of a lifetime of memories?!

Each year, many of our members eagerly search the pages of this newsletter, or regularly call their agent in anticipation of the special Member Appreciation programs being offered. Our long term customers know that there is something special, unusual, spectacular, and a bargain all rolled up into one when AAA decides to say “thanks” to those who have enjoyed the benefits of membership over the years. And 2016 is no ex-ception. Next year AAA North Penn has decided to offer three possibilities from which members can choose, and we are sure that each opportunity will appeal – perhaps some will have to choose all three! Choice number one departs on April 19, 2016 for a 7 Day Taste of Ireland tour. Imagine the beauty of Spring on this enchanted isle – the lush green countryside awaits for this amazing tour. After your flight from JFK to Dublin, get settled as you begin your fun filled week. Tour Dublin with one of many included vouchers, or join the group for a trip to Dublin Castle, Trinity College, and the Financial Centre. Wind up your day with dinner at the Merry Ploughboy Pub consisting of Irish specialties and a lively show. The tour then moves on to Blarney Castle, Killarney, Macroom and County Kerry. A thrilling drive along the coast will leave you breathless as you see the rugged coastline as well as Macgillycuddy’s Reeks. A stop at Bunratty Castle Hotel will feature a medi-eval style feast in the castle’s Great Hall, including local dishes, plenty of wine and a serenade by lords and ladies, evocative of the Middle Ages. Wind down your tour with a stop at Galway, Connemara, Moycullen, and the Connemara Marble Factory before one last night at a pub before you head back home. The second choice offered to members next year is a trip to Vermont, New Hamp-shire and Maine. Imagine this October trip as the region begins to show its true fall colors. Board a motorcoach at one of many local pickup points before heading north to visit such sights as Woodstock and Sugarbush Farms, Quechhee Gorge, Kennebunkport and Portland. Enjoy tours with local guides to the Coolidge Birthplace and Homestead as well as some of the world’s most famous country stores. A lighthouse lovers’ cruise, a stop at LL Bean, and a Downeast Maine Lobster Bake are also featured, and who would not love a gondola ride on Loon Mountain? This tour is packed full of northeast-ern moments that are destined to become some of your favorite vacation memories. And the third and final member appreciation tour for 2016 is a fantastic “Italian Intermezzo” tour. This trip departs October 22 and returns on the 30th, but not before you have soaked up so much of the beauty and culture that Italy has to offer. Your tour begins in Milan, and heads out from there to Verona and then Venice and of course a romantic gondola ride and serenade. A transfer to Giudecca Island begins a day whose stops include Palladio’s San Giorgio Maggiore, St. Mark’s Square, Doges’ Palace and the Bridge of Sights. Then it is on to Tuscany, Pisa and Florence, iconic tour stops for anyone spending time in Italy. See the famous Leaning Tower, the peaceful landscapes of Tuscany, and the treasure house of the Renaissance, Florence. This part of your tour includes a visit to the Academy Museum, the home of Michelangelo’s masterpiece “Statue of David.” Of course there is time to shop and dine in the region that boasts some of the world’s most magnificent museums and galleries. And have we mentioned the wines? There will also be a portion of the tour that takes you through the vineyards of Chianti, and your opportunity to savor some robust reds. As the tour winds down, finish your tour with a stop in the Eternal City, Rome. Throw a coin in Trevi Foun-tain, visit the Colosseum, and of course be in awe of a visit to the Vatican. Make your memories complete with a final sumptuous Italian dinner while enjoying a spine-tingling operetta. Bid farewell to the glories of Italy as you pack your bag full of memories for the return trip home. When AAA Travel says thanks, they really do mean it! Call today to ask about the Member Appreciation Tour that appeals to you – and know we will not stop you if you want to be thanked more than once! Join us in 2016 for Ireland, Italy or the beautiful Northeastern United States – so many ways to say thanks!

When we want to say thanks, we really say thanks!

Fathom™ is a new company that combines your love of travel with your desire to make a difference. On a trip with Fathom, travelers serve alongside community partners in the Dominican Republic to tackle environmental, educational and economic development needs; In Cuba, we intend to enable travelers to participate in cultural immersion. We are the tenth brand and a wholly owned subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc, the world’s largest travel company. Our first destination is the Dominican Republic, where we will begin sailing in April 2016, and our intention is to begin sailing to Cuba in May 2016. Fathom journeys will start with one to two days at sea preparing hearts and minds for the on-ground experience, including a wide variety of fun and engaging impact-readiness experiences, including an orientation to the Dominican Republic or Cuba, conversational Spanish lessons, impact activity training, and creative workshops. We have the perfect vessel for our travelers: the MV Adonia. It is an intimate ship (710 passengers), ideal for bonding with fellow passengers as well as for finding space for quiet self-reflection. It is our impact playground and academy. Start the day with yoga on the lido deck as the sun rises and end the day with a delicious Dominican or Cuban inspired, chef prepared meal shared with fellow travelers as the sun sets. While on route to your destination, you will learn about and experience Dominican and Cuban art, music and history as we sail to these countries. Adonia offers our travelers a safe, comfortable and convenient venue. We want our travelers to feel nurtured and secure, so they will be at their best as they tackle community challenges and needs. Once on-ground, Fathom travelers choose from a variety of social impact and recreational activities in the DR. For example, travelers can work with a women’s cooperative to plant and harvest cacao fields and produce chocolate, helping these women get to a scale where they can hire more workers and support more families on their own; help kids in schools improve their conversational English, better preparing them for broader career opportunities; work with small business owners to improve their marketing and operations to attract foreign consumers and ensure the livelihoods of future generations; make clay water filters that improve the health of families who lack clean drinking water (more than two million Dominicans do not have access to piped water). In Cuba, we intend to focus on educational and cultural exchanges. There is also time to explore the beauty of these countries and learn more about Dominicans and Cubans by visiting historic cites and markets, hiking to a waterfall or surfing incredible waves. Return home knowing that you are now part of a tribe of travelers dedicated to making the world a better place in a sustainable way. And that you touched the lives of those you spent time with. Footprints in the sand are fleeting. Traveling with Fathom leaves an impact that lasts. What exactly is unique about Fathom? We have pioneered a new category of travel, focused on making a positive impact on the world, while having fun. What makes us unique from mission trips or volunteerism is: • Our long-term, collaborative approach with partners in the countries we visit. These are people and organizations who have worked for years to make their communities a better place and we have learned from them how we can best augment their results; and we will do this by traveling to set locations on a regular basis. By bringing 700 passengers to work 3 days a week we have the potential to offer 2,000 traveler impact days / week to the communities we visit. • Our sincere belief that the person-to-person connection is among the strongest catalysts for transformation. • Being unabashed about our desire to make money while doing good. We know we need to create sustainable revenue for social impact to thrive.

Philanthropic gifts aren’t enough, and they aren’t predictable. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, we have access to the technical, maritime, and operational expertise required for operating excellence, while retaining a differentiated product experience team committed to building something the world has never seen. Our unique business model pairs market demand with social needs, which allows for sustained impact and lasting development. • Our belief that travel can and should be restorative and fun, but can also make a difference for good. Many people long to make a difference in the world but have no idea where to begin. We will provide nourishing opportunities to be immersed in another culture and community, to make relevant, lasting contributions.

The United States and Cuba recently made news with the reopening of the U.S. embassy in Havana, and as a result, travel opportunities abound. But as always, when change is ongoing, it is good to become familiar with the restrictions and opportunities to ensure a positive travel experience. For example, although tourism is still banned under the current embargo, the application process to visit has been shortened. When applying for one of the 12 categories of legal travel, including visits to close relatives, academic credit based programs, professional research, journalistic or religious activities, and participation in public performances or sports competitions, an applicant only has to mark the correct box on the application. Receipts for the trip are required to be kept for five years, and a full schedule of activities related to the category of travel must be maintained. Prior to the reopening of the embassy, the process was daunting and could take months – this is a relatively easy process and can make that first trip a little easier. Although regular passenger flights are not yet available, licensed charter operations can get you over to the island. Some travelers can also fly through a third country – research will be needed to see which might work best. Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean and others have expressed an interest in sailing to Cuba. The infrastructure exists to accept slightly smaller ships – Carnival hopes to offer its first trips there in May of 2016. Cuba has a shortage of high-end hotels, and this will continue to be an issue if Americans try to flock to the island. There are about 61,000 hotel rooms available, but bed-and-breakfasts also make an attractive alternative. These accommodations will offer the chance to make close contact with local families, but might be a bit difficult to book through the internet. Check with your AAA Travel Agent to assist with this choice. The new regulations will allow American travelers to pay for expenses with an American credit card, but many Cuban banks are not yet offering the service. There are also very few ATM’s in Cuba, and many businesses are not yet equipped to slide your card. It is a good idea to take pounds and euros – cash will be king for a while yet, and those options get better exchange rates than the U.S. dollar. And until now, travel agents who booked visitors flights and hotels were required to hold a special license from the Treasury Department and were expected to ensure that their customers complied with the rules. This has been relaxed, but there is some uncertainty as to our government’s plans to monitor travelers’ compliance with current regulations. It will be best to stay in touch with those who have been regularly updated with the latest information – it can change in a moment. And of course, there are regulations about souvenirs – you can bring back $400 worth of items, including $100 worth of those famous Cuban cigars. Those who have

Cuba is open – What you need to know

enjoyed these famous products of the island know that $100 can go up in smoke very quickly, but it might be worth the effort! The news is good, and we expect it to change regularly as the process of opening up Cuba continues. Updates can be obtained from government websites, and AAA plans to stay abreast of the latest information to make this exciting destination a positive experience. Contact your AAA Travel Agent for information on cruises and tours available to Cuba in 2016, as well as the most current entry requirements for U.S. citizens. Call today – what an opportunity this could be!

Ready for the Exotic? As vacation dreams dance through your head, does one of them imagine the truly exotic destination of an African safari? Then wake up and look no further than a AAA North Penn Group Tour and plan to spend May 6-15, 2016 in Kenya on an amazing remote and exciting safari. You will thrill to the wide open spaces, endless natural beauty, and the wilderness that are the daily lives of the Kenyan people who will act as your hosts. Depart from Washington Dulles International bound for Ethiopia and connect to Nairobi, Kenya. Check in to the Sarova Stanley Hotel and spend the day relaxing and adjusting to the time change and your new environment. Wake up early for a trip to the Daphne Sheldrick Animal Orphanage and Wildlife Trust, where baby elephants are fostered for the first two years of their lives. Feed milk to a baby who is totally dependent on the care given, and who could not survive without the help and protection the orphanage pro-vides. Lunch is served at the Tamambo Karen Blixen Restaurant, followed by a visit to the Kazuri Bead Factory, where every bead is shaped by hand by one of the 300 local employees. And you have only just arrived! Continue your adventure as you travel to camp at the foot of the Rift Val-ley Escarpment. Settle in and enjoy lunch as you spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Get up early for a game drive along the shores of Lake Nakuru, renowned for its phenomenal birding. Watch for lesser and great flamingos, white pelicans, greater cormorant and the sacred ibis. Perhaps the grasslands around the lake will also yield a peek at waterbuck, baboons, and the endan-gered white rhino – sure hope your camera is ready to go! The next day will feature a leisurely breakfast before driving to the Masai Mara National Park and an afternoon game drive before arriving at the lodge for dinner and another spectacular African sunset. Your two days here will feature early morning and afternoon game drives looking for wildebeest on their Great Migration, as well as zebra, gazelle, lions, leopards and cheetah. Herds of elephants will wander by, and the birdlife is prolific in this park. The Serian Mara Camp will be your base for these busy, busy days as you wind down your time on this mysterious continent.

Breakfast is served as you pack your bags for the return flight home. Depart Nairobi and head to the international airport before crossing the Atlantic and landing at Dulles. What a travel opportunity! If this adventure of a lifetime sounds like a part of your vacation dreams, turn those dreams into reality by calling AAA North Penn Travel and reserving your place in this unique group.

The events of September 11, 2001, forever changed so many things about our world, and one of those things was the freedom to come and go across the border that we as Americans have shared with our neighbors to the north, Canada. Thanks to all the attention to safety and possible criminal record information, security has improved, but there have been side issues that have caused the average traveler some inconvenience with what used to be routine border crossings. By improving knowledge, you can ensure that trips to our rugged and beautiful neighbor to the north are hassle-free. Canada actually turns away Americans as well as other travellers at their border every day due to both minor and major criminal convictions that show up on their computer screen as they examine a passport. There is a wide range of offenses that prevent entry, and given the difference in laws between the United States and Canada, it is often very difficult to figure out how Canada will interpret a U.S. conviction. A misdemeanor in our country that may seem minor can be interpreted differently due to the equivalent statute under Canadian law. Since border officers are not trained as lawyers, a misinterpretation of the history can happen. And just as some things are considered to be more serious in Canada, some things are not as much of an issue. The best course to follow is to check with an attorney if there is a possible reason for inadmissibility. For example, DUI or DWI are significantly more serious in Canada and can make you inadmissible. But solicitation is less of an issue under Canadian law, so should not cause a problem. Even an acquittal or pardon can be differently applied; it will depend on the crime itself. Knowledge is key – and trying to tell only a part of the story while crossing will not help – it might even make it impossible to cross in the future.

Crimes that will make you inadmissible to Canada

Border issues in Canada – What you need to know While we know we need to be safe when it comes to border crossings, it has caused some peripheral issues that must be considered. Be prepared, and your trip will surely be easy and rewarding.

“Rollin’ on the River” The river cruise phenomenon continues to grow, and with its rising popularity come more cruise companies, more ships, more itineraries and more ways to roll on the rivers of our country and the world. Industry-leading Viking River Cruises has added 14 new ships, with Avalon Waterways, AMA Waterways, Uniworld, Tauck, Australia-based Scenic Tours and Germany’s A-ROSA all adding ships in Europe next year. There is even a new river cruise company debuting, Emerald Waterways, a value-priced sister to Scenic. And for those who are not ready for a river adventure overseas, American Queen Steamboat Company is debuting a sternwheeler on the Columbia & Snake Rivers in the Pacific Northwest in addition to its cruises on the Mississippi. American Cruise Lines also operates similar routes, allowing travellers to explore shores closer to home, with so many different itineraries as well as length of time on board. But the fastest-growing area for river cruising is Europe, where more than two dozen new vessels have debuted over the past two years. Some of the well-known names include Avalon Waterways’ 166 passenger Avalon Expression, christened on May 6, 2013. The Expression is the pride of Avalon Waterways’ new Panorama class of vessels that feature unusually large (for the industry) cabins and more panoramic views. Founded in 2004, Avalon Waterways is known for a young fleet of ships with a stylish, contemporary design. One notable feature of the Avalon Expression’s lounge is its wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows. The Avalon Expression’s Club Lounge also harbors a small breakfast nook for early and late risers as an alternative to breakfast in the main restaurant. Like four previous Panorama class vessels launched by Avalon since 2011, Avalon Expression features a large number of Panorama Suites that offer 200 square feet of living space -- about 30% more than the standard river ship cabin. So many choices continue to be offered, with every new addition enhancing the river cruise experience with more amenities and more ways to enjoy the moments on the river as well as on shore. River cruises can in fact get you to so many inland “bucket list” destinations including such cities as Vienna and Budapest. Cruises on the Danube and Rhine continue to be the epicenter of the industry, but that’s just the beginning of where you can go. Popular destinations include Russia’s Volga, China’s Yangtze, the Mekong and the Mississippi. All the rage is cruising in Myanmar — with companies including Grand Circle and Orient Express. France is getting new attention, especially Bordeaux where several lines have expanded offerings.River cruises are not about rushing here and there. You visit key sights but there is also time to relax. You can sit under a canopy on the open deck — or on some ships soak in a hot tub or pool — while catching river views that include (depending on where you cruise) castles, farms, kids swimming, fishermen and maybe a water buffalo or two. The size of river ships is limited by the need for the vessels to go through locks and under low bridges. Most carry fewer than 200 passengers, some fewer than 100 and some fewer than 50. The small-ship experience brings opportunity to get to know your fellow passengers — including at open-seating meals. There’s no dealing with crowds.

And your ship ties up right in town so you can walk to a sidewalk cafe or shops or markets (including Northern Europe’s popular Christmas markets) and mingle with locals or head off on the ship’s organized tours to museums, monuments and other must-see attractions. There is time to bike or hike and visit the places you came to see, and to absorb the local culture. There was a time when cabins on river ships meant a choice between tight and cozy. Today’s choices include cabins with step-out balconies, French balconies, walls of glass that open and even suites. Beds are hotel-like, bathrooms comfortably-sized and amenities include flat-screen TVs. The newest ships offer surprisingly hip, contemporary environments. While space is limited, the lines have gotten clever with public rooms including adding alternative al fresco dining venues. Lounges are comfortable, and sometimes even opulently furnished. Libraries offer a quiet spot to sit with a book. Open decks afford space to hang out in the sun or shade and such extras as golf-putting greens. There is opportunity shipboard to snack on knockwurst and drink local beer as you cruise past Germany’s castles, drink the wine in Bordeaux and try other local flavors depending on your itinerary. Culture comes onboard, too, in the form of local folk groups and other performers. Shore excursions, wine and beer with dinner (and sometimes also lunch), soda, bottled water, and specialty coffee drinks are all included in the cruise fare. Sometimes there’s also an open bar. Bonus: internet is free! The atmosphere on board is also relaxed – don’t pack the tux. River cruising is casual dress at all times. One of the best parts of a river cruise is that once you unpack, you are unpacked for the duration of your trip. There is no packing and unpacking as you move from location to location…you are already there. Most river ships market to an age 55-plus demographic, though travelers in their 40s would feel right at home — particularly on the newer, more contemporary river ships. It is rare for children to be onboard – an opportunity to make your travel that much more relaxed as you cruise through some of the world’s most amazing sights. So call AAA Travel to get the latest information on the newest ships and extensive itinerary choices. River cruises – it is time to roll!

Celebrity Cruises, a synonym for luxury, have designed several of their upcoming itineraries to feature some of the most exciting events around the world. If “all the world is a stage,” then Celebrity is primed to bring you some of its most exciting acts, ones you will remember for years to come. Celebrity offers worldwide cruises, and during several select Signature Event Sailings, unique shore excursions will highlight your chosen destination. You will be given a VIP vantage point for an amazing vacation experience. And of course it is not all about the fun on shore – it is also all about the onboard experiences that will entertain, educate, and engage you in moments that are inspired by the world event you are enjoying! If Celebrity Silhouette is your vessel of choice, then check out three sailing opportunities in 2016. A nine night Scandinavian and Shakespeare adventure departs in April to mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death, and will include in its shore excursions a visit to Kronborg. This Danish fortification inspired Elsinore Castle from the classic Shakespearean play, Hamlet, and perhaps echoes of “To be or not to be” will be heard in the ancient hallways. Discussions of Shakespeare will also be conducted on board, and the moments are sure to become classic memories for you. In July, the Silhouette will feature a 12 night British Isle tour, including a visit to the oldest of the major professional golf championships, the British Open. You will be escorted by a golf pro who has competed in the tournament as a part of this cruise, and you can also tee up with a pro for a round of golf on beautiful ports of call in the region that began our fascination with this amazing sport. And the Silhouette is not yet finished – in August it will return to the British Isles, but this time on tour to visit the music and dance of Scotland, including a visit to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Celebrate with Celebrity! The Celebrity Equinox will also feature Signature Event Sailings in 2016 and 2017. In May, 2016, the Cannes Film Festival will in fact be the signature event! Enjoy A-list treatment with a rooftop party amid the excitement of one of movie-making’s most important festivals. Enjoy a celebrity sightseeing event including the harbor where the rich and famous dock their yachts. Will you rub elbows with some of today’s most renowned film makers and stars? Who knows… And then the Equinox plans a visit to one of the most famous ports and destinations in the United States – in February of 2017, celebrate with Celebrity as their Signature Event of choice is Mardi Gras in New Orleans! Hear speakers and jazz performers as a warm up before you dock for a once in a lifetime experience – Mardi Gras. Although the true meaning is “Fat Tuesday,” most celebrants remember the French Quarter, the Hurricanes, the fun and of course the beads. If a national celebration of fun and festivities is not enough, then board the Celebrity Infinity, departing in January of 2016 for a 14 night South America and Rio Carnival Cruise. This amazing international event is featured in Rio de Janeiro during Carnival with extravagant costumes and VIP seating for a parade to end all parades. Dance your way through the Samba Parade, which features participants from the top 12 samba schools in Rio. The thrills of Rio are tough to beat for partying and celebrating the history and culture of this South American centerpiece. And continuing on an international flare, you can set sail on the Celebrity Constellation for a Christmas and New Year’s Signature Event in December of 2016. A fourteen night Arabian Sea and India cruise will have you joining the rich and famous who choose to ring in the New Year in Dubai! Celebrate the event by viewing one of the world’s most spectacular fireworks displays as we welcome 2017. Celebrity Cruise Lines has done an amazing amount of research and preparation as they design some of the most unique vacation opportunities. Their Signature Event Sailings represent some top of the line packages that combine all of the amenities for which Celebrity is famous, combined with enhanced shore excursions that will make each event one of the most memorable vacations you can ever choose. Call your favorite AAA Travel Agent to learn more about the modern luxury that is Celebrity, and reserve your stateroom on the Silhouette, the Equinox, the Infinity or the Constellation for one of these amazing cruise vacations.
