Erin and Rod
About us
Erin Hawke• Born 1968 Nelson and raised on a
farm in the Tapawera area, I am the oldest of four children.
• My keen interest in the outdoors lead to climbing and work with DoC in Aoraki / Mt Cook National Park. While I worked as a ranger maintaining huts and tracks I was also part of the alpine rescue team for 6 years. Being involved in rescue was how I met Rod.
• I have climbed extensively in NZ including 3 assents of Aoraki/Mt Cook via differing routes.
• Over the next 10 to 15 years we plan to climb more extensively overseas.
• Rod Barker• I am the youngest of 10
children and was born in Rotorua 1969.
• I am keen to climb and promote non-violence. This needs to start with ourselves and what we believe, how we behave and how we communicate.
• Erin and I have climbed many peaks in New Zealand and wish to climb more overseas. We plan to climb Ama Dablam in Nepal next year and also to promote non-violence through media and public engagements.
