PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION

Dear Parents,

Thanks to all of you that supported this year's King School Silent Auction by

donating, purchasing, volunteering or attending the event! The evening was a

HUGE success and raised funds to help support school supplies for teachers, field

trips and many of the wonderful programs here at King that we value so

much. Thank you to the Silent Auction Committee for their great work.

Interested in volunteering and helping the PTO next year but not sure where to

start? Contact me at [email protected].

National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7-11

We all know what great teachers and staff we have here at King Elementary, and 'National Teacher

Appreciation Week' is a great time to remind teachers and staff just how great we think they are! Here's

what's in the works:

•Monday, May 7th: Teacher/Staff breakfast hosted by Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Giles and poem reading all-day, plus trail mix bar

•Tuesday, May 8th: NO SCHOOL •Wednesday, May 9th: Student Coloring Poster (https://tinyurl.com/y8cbqp4d to see two

options) •Thursday, May 10th Pizza Lunch for teachers and staff hosted by PTO • Friday, May 11th: Give your teacher a special note of thanks. We could use your help

with Monday's Trail Mix and Thursday's Pizza Lunch, as well as your creative touches with some signage. If you can help, please see our SignUp Genius. The PTO appreciates all you do to support King Elementary! Thank you!

Want one log-in for school apps? Here’s the solution!

How to use Clever at home:

Clever instant login is a single sign on solution for students. It allows them to login in to district

applications with one username and password. Popular apps our students use through Clever: Raz-

Kids,Lexia, and Typing Club.

K-2 students badge in with a QR code; 3-5 students sign in with a username and password.

SAFETY FIRST!

PLEASE remember to drive safe and do the right thing. So many reports of unsafe actions, which is

terrifying to think of what could happen. S-l-o-w down. Think. Let’s put the kids’ safety first!

Instead of saying… Try saying…

Sit here to complete your homework. Sit where you can best learn.

Good job! I notice you used… (examples: expression when you read

or worked 10 minutes to solve that problem!)

You’re so good at math! You explained your thinking very clearly.

Why are you getting into trouble? I see you’re having a hard time finishing your work today.

Let’s make a plan to fix this.

I like… I notice…

You’re making us late! We are waiting

You’re so smart! You worked so hard.

Child says, “I can’t do that.” You can’t do that YET! Keep trying.

Practice makes perfect. Practice makes permanent.

You or child says, “I’m not a ____________ person.”

(examples: math person, reader, writer)

Everyone has different strengths. If you work hard, you

will be a __________.

I knew you could do it! Hard work pays off!

One of our school goals is to implement Responsive Classroom in order to create the best, safest

environment to maximize learning—both social/emotional and cognitive. Try out some of these

sayings at home.
