He joined the Public Works Department as a Cadet Engineer in 1903 and became a Certificated Engineer in 1907 when he was appointed Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department. In 1914 he enlisted as private in the Light Horse and returned as Major commanding Field Company Engineers and with the award of the Military Cross. On demobilisation in 1920 he was appointed to the Forestry Department and in 1922 became Commissioner for the North-West of Western Australia. Further appointments were as Engineer for the North-West and Principal Assistant to the Engineer in Chief. 1926-1930, and as a member of the Western Australian State Unemployment Board, 1930-1932. He continued as Engineer for the North-West until called up at the outbreak of war in 1939 as C.R.E. Western Command. In 1941 he was appointed to the staff of Land Forces Headquarters in Melbourne and there became Director of Fortifications and Works with the rank of Brigadier. After release from the Army in 1944 he became Director of Works, Public Works Department, Western Australia, from which position he resigned in 1949 to become Chairman of the Transport Board of Western Australia, retiring in 1952 but remaining a member of the Board until 1958. In 1960 his autobiography “The Turning Wheel” was published. He married Henrietta Frances York Jull In August 1921. DRAKE-BROCKMAN, GEOFFREY. 1885-1977 Geoffrey Drake-Brockman, born in Guildford in 1885 was educated at Guildford Grammar School and Perth

Technical School. He joined the Public Works Department as a Cadet Engineer in 1903 and became a

1926-1930, and as a member of the Western Australian State Unemployment Board, 1930-1932. He

continued as Engineer for the North-West until called up at the outbreak of war in 1939 as C.R.E. Western

Command. In 1941 he was appointed to the staff of Land Forces Headquarters in Melbourne and there

became Director of Fortifications and Works with the rank of Brigadier. After release from the Army in 1944

he became Director of Works, Public Works Department, Western Australia, from which position he resigned

in 1949 to become Chairman of the Transport Board of Western Australia, retiring in 1952 but remaining a

member of the Board until 1958. In 1960 his autobiography “The Turning Wheel” was published.

He married Henrietta Frances York Jull In August 1921.
