About Ubin Wayfinder A Flagship event by Osportz
Ubin Wayfinder is a Cross - Terrain Orienteering Race organised annually by Osportz. The event bring together many runners of different background - from the competitive players to the recreational and even families. This diverse profile of people only proliferates the need to lead a healthy and active lifestyle by embracing nature.
Currently into our third year, the Ubin Wayfinder is the largest and only race event to be held on Pulau Ubin. This year of 2015 will be the biggest turnout of participants that we have so far - an estimated crowd of 600 people across the 4 race categories.
This year, we have also introduced two new initiatives by chartering the boats for all racers heading into Pulau Ubin on race day as well as mailing the race bibs & event t-shirt directly to each team’s home. We hope that through these initiatives, racers will find the Ubin experience to be less of a hassle and thus allowing them to enjoy the race with ease.
FOREWORD Words Before The Race.
Welcome to Ubin Wayfinder 2015! It is our great honour to be able to organise the 3rd and by far the largest Orienteering specific race in Pulau Ubin. Ubin Wayfinder is an Orienteering race, that encompasses Adventure running, basic map reading skills into one big activity.
This year we have introduced several key initiatives such as the organising of chartered bum boats to help racers get into Ubin on time and not risking the possibility of running into the later part of the morning when the weather is much more warmer. Adding to that, this year we have also the inclusion of several key sponsors such as Outdoor Sports & Travel who have been tremendously supportive of our event with their prizes and products.
From the inaugural Ubin Wayfinder back in 2013, we started with 200 Orienteers and this year, we have doubled that number with a good 500 of you coming down for the run!
For the Orienteering Federation of Singapore (or OFS), it is very thrilling for me as one of the board members to see such a huge support for the sport of Orienteering right here in Singapore. We have started the OFS with the aim in mind to develop this sport into something that every Singaporean regardless of age can get to enjoy freely. OFS is seeking to be a member of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) as well as the Singapore Sports Council (Sports Singapore) - something only with your support before we can embark on the journey to make Singapore a venue for world class Orienteering events.
Before I end off my message, I would like to share with you the Fundamental Values of Orienteering for something for you guys to think about: At one with nature.Spirit of adventure.Inclusion of everyone regardless of race, language or social backgroundsSpirit of friendship
The vision of the IOF is that orienteering shall be a truly global sport and be included in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Osportz believes that Orienteering has a place in Singapore and is determine to grow and develop this sport locally and ultimately establish a full ledge Orienteering federation to represent Singapore, making our Little Red Dot known in the International scene of Orienteering.
Thank you for being part of the Orienteering Community in Singapore and Wishing you a pleasant race.
