Board of Management meeting
Forty third meeting of Board of management of Dr YSRHU was held at International Guest
House, Venkataramannagudem on 18.02.2017. Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor and Chair-
man made a presentation on various activities being undertaken in the university after previous
Board of Management meeting and the board discussed about the agenda items.
MoU
Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University entered into an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ICAR–
Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad on 21.02.2017 regarding up-
dation of district agriculture contingency plans.
National Science Day Celebrations
National Science day was celebrated on 28.02.2017 at College of Horticul-
ture, Venkataramannagudem to commemorate the invention of Raman Ef-
fect by the Indian physicist on the same day in the year 1928 by
Sir.C.V.Raman. All the students have participated and expressed their views
on Science and Technology for specially abled children.

Experiential Learning Programme
As a part of Student READY programme, nine modules are functioning under Experiential Learning
Programme for Final Year, II semester B.Sc (Hort) students at College of Horticulture, Venkatara-
mannagudem. The new modules initiated include
Mushroom culture module - Production of nucleous seed and spawn of
button mushroom and spawn production of oyster mushroom has been
initiated.
Vermicomposting module – Modern vermicomposting module unit has
been initiated. Students are actively involved in fixing of HDPE ver-
mibeds, filling the beds with cattle dung and release of worms
Tissue culture module – in vitro micropropagation of banana has been
initiated. The students are actively involved in selection of suckers, sur-
face sterilization and inoculation of banana
Bee keeping module – Bee keeping module has been initiated. The stu-
dents are actively involved in maintenance of the bee colony and rising of
bee forage and pasteurage.
Bio inputs module – Mass production of Biological agents viz., larval
parasitoid, Bracon habetor, Trichoderma sp, Pesudomonas sp and Azolla has been initiated.
Placements
Ms. K. Aishwarya Yadav, Mr. D. Masthan Valli and Mr. D. Harikala got
placement in the campus interviews conducted at College of Horticulture,
Anantharajupeta for final year students on 28.02.2017 for the post of
Horticulturist which was coordinated by Dr.K.Swarajya Lakshmi, Asso-
ciate Professor and In-charge of Placement Cell.

Training Programmes
Sri G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted six day on campus train-
ing programme on Apiculture from 20.02.2017 to 25.02.2017 at KVK, Venkataramannagudem. As
part of the training programme visited apiary unit at Pedatadepalli on 22.02.2017 and State Bee
Keeping Extension Centre, Vijayarai on 23.02.2017.

Disease Survey
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi conducted survey on
vegetables and fruit crops in Kurnool, Veldurthi, Kodumuru, C.Belagal, Krishnagiri, Koileakonda,
Guduru and Polukallu villages and recorded the incidence of various diseases on 18.02.2017.

Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi attended training programmes on
16.02.2017 as resource persons on “Rejuvenation of old cashew or-
chards” organized by ITDA, Rampachodavaram. The programmes were
attended by Sri K.C.Bhanu murthy, Scientist (Hort.) at D.N.Palem and
Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) at Seethapalli villages. Scien-
tists explained about management practices to be followed for rejuve-
nation of old and senile cashew orchards.
A three day training programme was organized by KVK, Pandirima-
midi at Chintur on ‘Millets Value Addition - Biscuit and Bakery prod-
ucts making’ from 21.02.2017 to 23.02.2017 to 25 tribal women SHG
group members of Chintur mandal. KVK, Pandirimamidi has provided
one biscuit making unit to take up this as income generating activity
and for self employment. Sri.Chinnababu, PO-ITDA-Chintur attended
the valedictory session and interacted with the trainees.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended the farmers
training programme as resource person on “Cultivation of banana and sweet orange” organized by
Department of Horticulture at Narpala on 22.02.2017.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended the farmers
training programme as resource person on “Cultivation of pomegranate” organized by Department
of Horticulture at Madakasira on 23.02.2017.
A three day training programme was conducted by scientists of HRS, Am-
bajipeta on cocoa from 21st to 23rd February, 2017 with the financial as-
sistance of Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Kochi and ex-
plained the production, protection technologies and marketing aspects
pertaining to cocoa along with field visit and demonstrated pruning tech-
niques.
One week training programme was organized by HRS Ambajipeta
with the financial support of Coconut Development Board (CDB)
from 27.02.2017 to 04.03.2017 for 16th batch of Friends of Coconut
Trees (FoCT). The scientists imparted training in scientific manage-
ment aspects pertaining to quality seedling production and plant pro-
tection measures.
Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem as resource person deliv-
ered a talk on “Production and utilization of organic manures and biofertilizers in Horticultural
crops” to farmers organized by KVK, V.R.Gudem on 16.02.2017.
Smt.P.Sunitha, Scientist (Ento.), Horticultural Research Station, Venkataramannagudem as resource
person delivered a guest lecture on “Parasites and diseases of Honeybees” and “Management of
Pests and Diseases in Vegetables” at KVK, V.R.Gudem on 25.02.2017.
Dr. K.T. Venkata Ramana, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head and Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist
(Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended training programme on “Mango plant protection techniques” at Rail-
way Kodur, YSR Kadapa District organized by HRS, Ananthrajupet on 21.02.2017.

Dr. N. Emmanuel, Assistant Professor (Ento.) and Dr. A.V.D.Dorajee Rao,
Assistant Professor (Hort.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem conducted one
day training programme on “IPM in brinjal” to tribal farmers at Makkini-
varigudem of Buttaigudem mandal and distributed biofertilizers to tribal
farmers on 23.02.2017 under Tribal Sub Plan Project.
Er.P.C.Vengaiah, Scientist (FST), Horticultural Research Station, Pandirima-
midi delivered a lecture on palmyrah Neera and value added products at
PJTSAU Rajendranagar orgnised by CPCRI kerala on 25.02.2017.
Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agri. Extn.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem con-
ducted three day on campus training programme from 14.02.2017 to
16.02.2017 on "Importance of Biofertilizers and Organic Manures in
Horticultural Crops" to the farmers from Vankavarigudem, Thatiraman-
nagudem and Laskhmipuram.
Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr.Scientist & Head and Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala (Vet. Sci.),
KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited the poultry hatchery unit at Ungu-
turu on 17.02.2017 and also participated in cashew farmers training pro-
gramme at Jangareddygudem organized by Cashew Research Station, Ba-
patla with the support of Department of Horticulture, A.P.
Thirty farmers from Avanigadda, Krishna District visited HRS, Kovvur on
23.02.2017. Dr K. Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur explained about
the Production of tissue culture banana plants and scientific cultivation of
banana.
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Sr.Scientist & Head, HRS, Anantharajupet conducted
field day on “Scientific cultivation and Post harvest management of
mango” at Venugopala Nagar, Rly. Kodur on 21.02.2017. Sri. T. Sud-
hakar, Deputy General Manager, APEDA, Hyderabad and Dr. D. Srinivasa
Reddy, Scientist (Ento.) explained the farmers about Post harvest as-
pects and pest and disease control in mango. Sri. P. Madhusudhana
Reddy. PD, APMIP, Kadapa, explained about the importance of drip irrigation and fertigation. Smt.
M. Ushadevi, Hon,ble Board Member, Dr. YSRHU attended the training programme as chief guest
and released a booklet on mango cultivation and folders on post harvest management.
On 15.02.2017, Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah and Sri G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem conducted one day off campus training programme on “Guava package of practices” at
Kadiyadda followed by a field visit to acid lime and coconut fields.
Diagnostic Visits
On 17.02.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and P.Raja Sekhar,
Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited Paddy nursery, maize,
sesamum and citrus fields at I.Polavaram village of Rampachodavaram
mandal. During the visit, observed the crop affected with citrus canker
disease. Recommended application of streptocyclin @ 1 g + copper oxy
chloride@30g/10l of water.

On 20.02.2017, Sri P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirima-
midi provided Pusa hydrogel @ 2.5 kg/ha under on-farm trial for tribal
farmers growing brinjal crop at B.V. Kota village of Rampachodavaram
mandal. During the visit scientist has demonstrated the application of
Pusa hydrogel @10g/seedling to reduce the number of irrigations and
also to assess the performance of crop after Pusa hydrogel application.
Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah and Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala (Vet. Sci.), KVK, Venkata-
ramannagudem visited Mettugudem, Ravigudem, Kapavaram and Pan-
dugudem on 20.02.2017 and distributed the hydroponic equipments. On
the same day they have visited the poultry shed construction site and
identied the farm ponds for tribal sub-plan project.
On 23.02.2017, Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah and Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala (Vet.
Sci.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited Mettugudem, Ravigudem, Ka-
pavaram and Pandugudem where hydrophonic units installation works
are going on and visited five fish ponds for identification and imple-
menting TSP projects in tribal areas.
General Workshops and Trainings
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr. Scientist
& Head, KVK, V.R.Gudem and Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK,
Pandirimamidi attended Kaushal Vikas Se Krishi Vikas regional
workshop on skill development at NAARM, Hyderabad on
20.02.2017. The programme was inaugurated by Sri.Pocharam Srini-
vasa Reddy, Minister of Agriculture, Telangana, Smt.V.Usha Rani, IAS, DG, MANAGE,
Sri.Raghavendra Singh, IAS, Addl. Secretary (Extn.), Govt of India, Sri.C.Parthasarathy, IAS, Principal
Secretary, Telangana, Dr. V.Praveen Rao, V.C, PJTSAU, Sri Satender Arya, CEO-Skill Development
council of India, Dr.R.Kalpana Sastry, Director, ICAR, NAARM, and State level officers from South
India attended the meeting.
Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs attended 17th All India Inter Agri-
cultural Universities Youth festival 2016-17 held at Bikaner, Rajasthan
from 22nd to 25th February, 2017 organized by Rajasthan University of
Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Bikaneer along with twelve students of
university and two faculty members. Students of the University secured
bronze medal in "Group dance - Folk".
Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Venktaramannagudem attended
three day training programme from 21.02.2017 to 23.02.2017 on
"Promotion of Agro Enterprises and Food Processing” by National Institute
for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Ni-MSME) and ATARI, Zone-V at
Hyderabad.

with PG students from department of Postharvest Technology and Floriculture & Landscape, Col-

gies for Horticultural Produce” on 22.02.2017 at Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalaya, Tirupati.

Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension & Principal Investigator, Centre of
Excellence on Protected Cultivation attended “National consultative work-
shop on protected cultivation to meet future challenges with special refer-
ence to soilless cultivation, hydroponics and aeroponics” held during 17th-
18th February, 2017 at University Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad in col-
laboration with Indian Society for Protected Cultivation (ISPC) and chaired the technical session-IV.
Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Assoc. Prof (Hort.), Dr. K. Venkata Satish, Teaching Associate (Hort.) along
with PG students from department of Postharvest Technology and Floriculture & Landscape, Col-
lege of Horticulture, Anantharajupet participated in National Workshop on “Postharvest Technolo-
gies for Horticultural Produce” on 22.02.2017 at Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidhyalaya, Tirupati.
Dr.A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem attended the induction training programme for newly re-
cruited fisheries officers from 20.02.2017 to 25.02.2017 at MANAGE, Hy-
derabad.
Exposure Visits
3rd year students of Agricultural College, Mahanandi visited Horticultural
Research Station, Mahanandi on 27.02.2017 for diagnosis of pests and dis-
eases in horticultural crops. During their visit Dr.K.Subramanyam, Princi-
pal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head explained about the mandate crops of the
research station and diagnosis of various disease and pests.
Students of Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalaya, Tirupati and Agriculture
Polytechnic, Tirupati visited College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta on
16.02.2017 and 18.02.2017 respectively. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor
(Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta explained about protected cultivation, land-
scaping, different propagation methods at commercial nursery.
Monitoring & Visits
Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with Dr.M.Lakshmi Nara-
yana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited College of Horticulture, Par-
vathipuram on 21.02.2017 and interacted with students and inspected the
Entomology Laboratory, Library room and Girls hostel.
Dr. MLN Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr. YSRHU visited CoH, Venkataraman-
nagudem on 22.02.2017 and addressed the teaching staff regarding the
strengthening of the laboratories, enhancement in the quality education and
personal care towards the students.
Dr. A. Joseph Raj Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station,
Kayamkulam visited Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta. The scien-
tists briefed about the on going research activities and mass multiplication
of bioagents.
Dr. V.B. Ramana Murthy, IFS, CEO, Rythu Bazaar visited HRS, Kovvur on
17.2.2017 and discussed the issues related to marketing of banana, establish-
ment of banana clinic and biodegradation of banana waste.

attended Technical screening committee meeting at APMPB office, Vijayawada on 21.02.2017.
Sri.M.Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), Horticultural Research Station, Venkataramannagudem at-
tended meeting on “Weather based crop Insurance Scheme for finalization of triggers” at Director-
ate of Agriculture, Guntur on 23.02.2017.
Dr.K.T.Venkata Ramana, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Zonal Head, Dr L. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist
(Hort.) and Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati participated in interaction meet-
ing with Joint collector, Chittoor and Project Director, APMIP on “Protected cultivation in capsicum
and cucumber” on 25.02.2017.
NSS Activities
Special NSS camp in the adopted villages B-Kammapalli and Chin-
naorumpadu was inaugurated by Dr. M. Rama Krishna, Associate
Dean in the presence of Dr.M.Ramaiah and Dr.B.Thanuja Priya, NSS
programme officers, CoH, Anantharajupeta. Smt. M. Usha Devi,
Hon’ble member of Board of management, Dr. YSRHU participated in
this programme. Saplings of different tree species were planted in
the school premises on this occasion.
