104th National Science Congress

104th National Science Congress organized at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi which

was inaugurated by Sri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in the presence of

Sri.E.S.L.Narasimhan, Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Sri N.Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research and Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Direc-

tor of Extension along with scientists and professors of Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University attended the

inaugural and technical sessions . The University arranged an Exhibition Stall by displaying various

technologies in horticulture and live specimens under the supervision of Krishi Vigyan Kendra,

Venkataramannagudem on this occasion.

National Youth Day

“National Youth Day” was celebrated on 12.01.2017 at College of

Horticulture, Anantharajupet on the occasion of 153rd birth anniver-

sary of Swami Vivekananda. PG students of CoH, Anantharajupet

created awareness about digital payments, Apps like Paytm and

Freecharge and online reservations using IRCTC to the rural youth

of Anantharajupet village.

Exposure Visits

Dr. V. Suchitra, Assistant Professor (Hort.) and Dr. V. Sudha Vani, Assistant

Professor (Hort.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem conducted exposure visit

to PHTRS, Venkataramannagudem on 04.01.2017 to III year, B.Sc Horticul-

ture students to show the grading of fruits and vegetables.

UG students of College of Horticulture, Anantharajupet were taken on

exposure visit to Indian Science Congress at S.V. University, Tirupati

from 5th – 7th January, 2017.

2nd year diploma students of Horticulture Polytechnic, Kalikiri were ex-

plained about NPM wheel and extraction and importance of uranium at

104th Indian Science Congress Exhibition on 07.01.2017.

Method Demonstration

A method demonstration on pruning procedure in drumstick was conducted

for 1st year diploma students of Horticulture Polytechnic, Kalikiri on 05-01-

2017.

Education

Pest and disease survey in papaya

Dr. R. Nagaraju, Senior Scientist (Hort.) and Smt. T. Nagalakhmi, HRS, An-

antharajupet observed papaya black spot (Asperisporium caricae) symp-

toms in Mudupulavemula palli village of Piler mandal, Chittoor Dist and

recommended [email protected]% spray for its control.

In newly planted papaya experimental blocks of HRS, Anantharajupet and surrounding farmers

fields, 15% mealy bug (Paracoccus marginatus), 10-12% of PRSV and 5-8% of white fly (Bemisia

tabaci) incidence was observed.

Extension Diagnostic visits

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.) and Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Amba-

jipeta carried out field diagnostic visit to cocoa gardens in Rakurthivaripalem, Avidi, Mandapalli,

Kadiyapulanka of East Godavari district on 09.01.2017 and observed the incidence of mealy bug,

aphids and leaf eating caterpillar and suggested suitable control measures to the farmers .

Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist, (Hort.) and Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Am-

bajipeta carried out field diagnostic visit to slug caterpillar affected gardens in Atreyapuram village

of East Godavari district on 10.01.2017 and suggested to install light traps to reduce the pest infes-

tation levels to the local farmers .

On 03.01.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Sri. P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC),

KVK, Pandirimamidi has visited maize fields for diagnosis of pest and disease incidence at Thati-

wada village of Rampachodavaram mandal and observed the crop affected with pink borer. Recom-

mended application of [email protected] ml/l or application of carbofuran 3G granules@ 3 kg/

ac in leaf whorls.

Also visited cashew orchards at Thatiwada village of Rampachodava-

ram mandal on the same day and observed tea mosquito bug and die

back incidence. Suggested to give sprayings as per the recommended

schedule. i.e., spraying of neem oil @5 ml/l, [email protected] ml/l at

new flush, monocrotophos @1 .6 ml/l at flowering stage and profeno-

fos @1 ml/l at apple and nut formation stage for tea mosquito bug con-

trol. Suggested to remove dead and dried twigs along with some healthy tissue followed by spray-

ing of copper oxy chloride @ 3 g/l for dieback management.

Dr. R. Nagaraju, Senior Scientist & Head and Sri. D. Sridhar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Anantharajupet

visited mango orchards of Mukavaripalli, Settigunta, Y.Kota villages of Railway Kodur mandal and

observed severe mango hopper incidence in Pulihora and Neelum, moderate incidence in Bangana-

palli, Bangalora, Rumani, Mallika and Khader. Suitable control measures were recommended.

Boron deficiency symptoms with mango fruit cracking was observed in the variety Rumani. Appli-

cation of 5-10 kg borax/ha as foliar spray of 0.25% borax at 10 days interval or solubor@300

g/100 l of water was recommended to control at HRS, Anantharajupet.

Dr. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited the chilli field infested with

thrips at Kondrupolu village on 12.01.2017 and suggested spraying of fipronil@2 ml/l and soil ap-

plication of fipronil 0.3% granules @ 8 kg /acre at 15 and 45 days after transplanting under moist

conditions.

Dr.M.Rajasekhar, Associate Dean i/c, CoH, Venkataramannagudem and Dr.P.Rama

Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path.) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem conducted a diagnos-

tic field visit to papaya fields at Jaggannapeta on 10.01.2017.

Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem attended a training pro-

gramme as resource person on 04.01.2017 organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Undi, West Godavari

under Friends of Coconut Tree (FoCT).

gudem conducted one day training programme cum field visit to tribal

farmers of Buttaigudem mandal on “IPM of Vegetables” and distributed

the inputs inder TSP on 07.01.2017.

Tribal sub plan

Scientific staff of KVK, Venkataramannagudem along with Dr.J.V.Prasad,

Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer, ATARI, Zone-V, Hyderabad has vis-

ited the tribal sub plan activities organized in Lankapalli, Bandar-

lagudem, Pandugudem, Kamaiahkunta, K.R.Puram, Kapavaram villages

in Buttaigudem mandal on 11.07.2017.

Field day

Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted a field day on pulses,

redgram variety LRG-41 at Chaparathipalem, Addateegala mandal on 04

-01-2017. Officials from ATMA, representatives of Laya NGO and 73

tribal farmers from Chaparatipalem, Dhanyampalem and Ravulapadu

villages have attended.

General Meetings attended

Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research and Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of

Extension attended state level workshop on ‘Revision of cost norms un-

der MIDH’ organized by Department of Horticulture under the chair-

manship of Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Commissioner of Horticulture at

Guntur on 12.01.2017 to review and revise the unit costs under MIDH.

On 03.01.2017, Dr. P. Manjari, Scientist (Vet. Sci.), KVK, Pandirimamidi

attended Janmabhoomi- Maa Vooru Programme at Sunnampadu village of

Maredumalli mandal along with Dr. Suryanarayana Murthy, A.D. Animal

Husbandry and Dr. Ramachandra, VAS, Devarapalli and created aware-

ness among tribal farmers regarding seasonal diseases, importance of

vaccination and distributed medicines for diseased animals.

Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension attended UGC sponsored National seminar on “Innovative

Research in Food and Commercial Crops for their Sustainability and Challenges” on 05.01.2017 at

Ch.S.D.St.Theresa’s Autonomous College for Women, Eluru and presented a paper on ‘Vegetable

Production for Nutritional Security and Economic Prosperity’.

Rythu sadassulu

A Rythu sadassu was organized by RHWEP students allotted to HRS,

Darsi at Chandaluru village on 10.01.2017. Dr. L.Naram Naidu, Princi-

pal Scientist & Zonal Research Head, HRS, Lam, Dr. M.Mutyala Naidu,

Sr.Scientist & Head, HRS-Darsi, C.Venkataramana, Scientist, HRS,

Lam, Dr. Uma Krishna, Associate professor, CoH, Venkataramanna-

gudem, Dr. Varaprasad, Principal Scientist, KVK, Darsi, Sri. M.Sunil

Kumar, Scientist & Head, ARS, Darsi, Sri. T.Teja , Research Associate (Hort.), MPTC, Chandaluru vil-

lage, Sarpanch, host farmers of RHWEP students and other farmers participated in the pro-

gramme. Exhibition was arranged and Students exhibited different live specimens of pest and dis-

eased fruits , vegetables, and shared their experiences during the programme.

A Rythu Sadassu was organised by RHWEP students on 06-01-2017at

B.V.Kota village of Rampachodavaram mandal. The programme

started with the inauguration of stalls by Sri. Naidu, APO(G)- ITDA,

Rampachodavaram. Dr.A.Sujatha, DSA and Dr.M.Raja Sekhar, Associ-

ate Dean, Sri. Ch.Chinnabbai, AD Representative CoH, V.R.Gudem,

Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi, Dr.Rajendra

Prasad, Scientist, HRS.Pandirimamidi, Sri. B.Srinivasulu, PHO- ITDA, Sri. Vijaykumar, Additional

Project Director, Velugu, Sri. Ramesh, Horticultural Officer and 163 farmers have participated in

this programme.

Dr. A.V.D. Dorajee Rao, Asst. Professor (Hort.) and AD representative

participated in the Rythu sadassu organized by RHWEP 2016 stu-

dents allotted to CRS, Bapatla at Thulasinagaram grampanchayat

premises on 07.01.2017. Dr. L.Naram Naidu, Head, HRS, Lam, Sri.

Uma Maheswara Rao, Scientist & Head, Dr. Nagendra Reddy, Dr. Vi-

mala, Scientist, CRS, Bapatla and Ms. Usha, Horticultural Officer,

Chirala gave valuable suggestions and answered the queries posed by the farmers.

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), College of Horticulture, Anantharajupet participated as As-

sociate Dean representative in exhibition cum training programme to the farmers at Thimmapuram

(village), Mahanandi on 11.01.2017 organised by students of CoH, Anantharajupet under RHWEP.

Students shared their experiences and practical knowledge gained during the programme.

Visits

Dr.Nukasani Balaji, Member, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU visited HRS,

Darsi as chief guest for ‘Vanamahotsavam” event organized at HRS, Darsi

on 09.01.2017.

Smt. Pratibha Bharati, ED, SC.corporation, Kadapa along with Horticultural

officer, Smt. S. Aashiya and Agricultural officer, Smt.Mallika visited the ex-

perimental fields of HRS, Anantharajupet. Sri.D.Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.)

explained about the ongoing research activities.

Students of Kings Junior and vocational college, Amalapuram came an exposure visit to Horticultural

Research Station, Ambajipeta on 09.01.2017 and were briefed about the research activities pertain-

ing to crop improvement, crop production, crop protection and mass multiplication of bio-control

agents and its role in the control of pests and diseases of coconut.
