Board of Faculty Meetings
14th Board of Faculty of UG Studies meeting was conducted
on 10.06.2018 at University Campus, Venkataramanna-
gudem under the chairmanship of Dr.M. Lakshminarayana
Reddy, Dean of Horticulture. Expert member
Dr.P.Narayana Swamy, Registrar, UAHS, Shivamogga and
other members of UG Faculty Board gave their valuable
inputs in the meeting.

14th Board of Faculty of PG Studies meeting was con-
ducted on 10.06.2017 at University Campus, Venkatara-
mannagudem under the chairmanship of Dr.D.Srihari,

galuru and other members of PG Faculty board gave

Nava Nirmana Deeksha
Navanirmana Deeksha programme was conducted at university head quarters, constituent colleges,
Research Stations and KVKs of Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem. All the staff
members and students took Nava Nirmana Deeksha pledge for comprehensive development of An-
dhra Pradesh.
Inauguration of Carp Hatchery and Bio-control Lab at KVK
Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice Chancellor (FAC) & Ex-Officio
Secretary to Government of AP inaugurated Carp Hatchery Unit
and Bio Control Laboratory at KVK, Venkataramannagudem on
11.06.2018 in the august presence of Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Registrar,
Dr. R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr. A. Sujatha,
Dean of Student Affairs. Bio control agents viz., Pseudomonas
fluorescence, Trichoderma viride and Paecilomyces lilacinus were
distributed on this occasion to the guava
farmers as a part of OFT on “Management
of root knot nematode (Meloidogyne en-
terolobii) in guava fields of West Godavari
District”.

World Environment Day
World Environment Day was conducted with the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution” on 05.06.2018 at CoH, Venkataramannagudem and CoH, Anantharajupeta. All students and staff have participated in this programme and conducted a plastic free drive and planted saplings as a part of this programme to create pollution free environment.

Exposure Visit
Dr. A.V.D Dorajee Rao, Assoc Professor(Hort.) and Dr Zehra
Salma, Asst Professor (Hort.) conducted an exposure visit for III
year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students of CoH, Venkataraman-
nagudem on 06.06.2018 to Vijayawada and surrounding places.
The students were taken to Vijayawada airport, Avatar park,
Scrap park, Kanakadurga gardens, Rajiv Gandhi park, Pavitra
Sangam gardens with the help of A.P Urban Greening officials .
Severe fruit fly, fruit borer and mango hopper damage
was observed in Y.S.R. Kadapa and Chittoor districts of
Andhra Pradesh. Framers were advised not to spray
any chemicals prior to harvesting and advised them to
keep fruit fly traps to attract flies.
Among the four varieties of date palm planted at HRS, Anantharaju-
peta, ‘SNA’ variety was precocious in bearing but failed to retained the
fruits.
Research
Extension
Vocational Training Programme
Six days vocational training programme on Bee keeping was
conducted by KVK, Venkataramannagudem from 11.06.2018
to 16.06.2018. Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor
(FAC) & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P inaugurated the
programme in the presence of Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar,
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr.A.Sujatha,
Dean of Student Affairs and explained about the importance
of honeybees in agricultural and horticultural ecosystems for enhancing productivity of crops. A
total of 35 trainees from West Godavari, East Godavari, Guntur, Kurnool and Nellore districts
attended the training programme. On 15.06.2018 Dr.E.Karunasrre, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK,
V.R.Gudem distributed certificates & technical bulletin on Apiculture to the trainees during the
valedictory function. Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) has co-ordinated the training programme.
Training Programmes
Smt. B.Neeraja, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and G. Krishna Rao, Research
Associate (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta attended the training programme
as resource persons on Rugose spiraling whitefly on coconut and
oilpalm at Neeladevipuram and Kurukuru villages of Eluru division
organized by Department of Horticulture and suggested suitable
management measures to the farmers on 02.06.2018.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta at-
tended the training programme on identification of nematode prob-
lems in horticultural crops, nurseries and their management at Kadi-
yam, Rajamahendravaram of East Godavari district on 08.06.2018 and
delivered a lecture on insect pest management in nursery and major
horticultural crops for the benefit of the farmers
On 06.06.2018, an exposure visit cum training programme was con-
ducted on ‘Balanced feeding of milch animal’ at KVK, Periyavaram for
dairy farmers. On this occasion, the farmers were explained about
feeding of balanced feed to the cattle for better milk yield and fat. The
farmers were taken to KVK Demo unit of Super Napier fodder field
and the cuttings were also distributed to farmers as part of OFT.
Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Veterinary Science) co-ordinated the programme.
HRS, Chintapalli conducted a workshop on “Processing and
Value addition in Spices” in collaboration with Indian Insti-
tute of Spices Research, Calicut, Kerala, SERP, Andhra
Pradesh and Tata Trust, Andhra Pradesh at HRS, Chintapalli.
Dr.K.NirmalBabu, Director & PC, Dr. Rema, PS (Hort.), Dr. Ra-
jeev, PS (Ag.Ext.), Dr. Jaya Sree, SS (Ag. Eng.), Dr. Lizo, SS
(Ag.Econ.) from IISR, Calicut, Dr. J.DilipBabu, Director of Re-
search, Sri. Homicheriyan, Director, DASD, Dr.Siva Kumar, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chin-
tapalli, Dr.Joginaidu, ADR, RARS, Chintapalli and representatives from SERP, ITDA, APRIGP, GCC,
NGOs& FPOs have attended and participated in the discussions conducted on scientific cultivation.
Four turmeric boilers and polishers were distributed to FPO groups under TSP programme on this
occasion.
A one-day training programme on ‘Nematode Problems in
Horticultural crops, Nurseries and their Management’ was
organized jointly by HRS, Kovvur and AICRP (Nematodes),
ICAR- IARI, New Delhi at Kadiyam on 08.06.2018. Dr. Raman
K. Walia, Project Coordinator, AICRP Nematodes, Dr. J. Dilip
Babu, Director of Research, YSRHU, Venkataramannagudem,
Dr. K. Poornima, Head, Department of Nematology, TNAU, Coimbatore, Dr. BVK Bhagavan, Principal
Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Kovvur; Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur; Dr.
NBV Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta and Dr. K Kranti KVVS, Scientist,
AICRP Nematodes, IARI, New Delhi. Dr K Mamatha, Sr. Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.R.Nagalakshmi,
Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended the training programme. An awareness on nematodes, their
symptoms and management in nursery seedlings was created successfully among the participants.
The workshop was attended by nearly 180 participants.
Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem attended a training programme on “Improved vegetable
cultivation” as a resource person at Gopalapuram on 12.06.2018
organized by RHTI, Eluru.

A three-day training programme on ‘Carp Breeding and Seed
Rearing’ was organized by KVK, Venkataramannagudem from
06.06.2018 to 08.06.2018. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Exten-
sion inaugurated the training programme in the presence of Dr.
E. Karuna Sree, Sr.Scientist & Head and Mr. Abulu, FDO, Buttai-
gudem and Polavaram mandals, Dept. of Fisheries. Dr. A.
Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), conducted
the technical sessions to the tribal farmers. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension during his wel-
come address stressed on the quality seed requirement for successful culture and also need to
identify the diseases and timely treatment for sustainability. Thirty tribal farmers learned the skills
in carp breeding and hatchery.
Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head conducted a training programme on
‘Cage aquaculture management practices’ to tribal fishermen
co-operative societies of Bhupathipalem and Musurumilli reservoirs
of Rampachodavaram mandal on 07.06.2018 under TSP.
Sri.Padmakar, State Co-ordinator from TATA TRUST and Dr.A.Srinivas
conducted technical sessions followed by a visit to Musurumilli reser-
voir for site selection and construction of cages.
Cluster Front Line Demonstrations
KVK, Venkataramannagudem initiated CFLD-Redgram seed var PRG-
176 demonstrations for the year 2018-19. Seed treatment chemicals,
bio fertilizers and pre-emergence herbicide were distributed to the
farmers of Yerrampeta village of Koyyalagudem mandal on 07.06.2018.
Tribal Sub Plan
KVK, Venkataramannagudem distributed one month aged Rajasri
poultry birds to 38 tribal farmers under tribal sub plan scheme at
Chegondapalli village of Polavaram mandal. Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala,
Scientist (Veterinary Science) explained about the management
practices to be followed in backyard poultry rearing and its importance
in nutritional security on 12.06.2018.
Diagnostic Visits
A field diagnostic survey carried out by Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr. Scientist (Ento.)
and G. Krishna Rao, Research Associate (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta on coconut slug
outbreak at Metlapudi village in Veeravasaram mandal on 15.06.2018 and recorded
parasitization recovery percentage of parasitoid Pediobius imbreus on coconut slug
caterpillar.
Smt. B.Neeraja, Scientist (Path.) and G. Krishna Rao, Research Associate (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta
conducted field diagnostic survey in coconut gardens along with local farmers at Antarvedipalem,
Gondi and Antarvedi villages of East Godavari district on 12.06.2018 and observed the incidence of
Ganoderma wilt, stem bleeding, Redpam weevil and Rhinocerous beeltle damage and suggested
suitable management measures.

Scientists of CRS, Petlur conducted diagnostic field visit to acid lime
gardens at Chintalatmakur, Kalavayi mandal on 07.06.2018. Scientists
visited about 15 farmer’s fields and recorded the pest, disease and other
problems. Water and soil samples were tested and suggested the
application of gypsum. In some gardens severe incidence of root rot and
nematodes was noticed and suggested suitable remedial measures.
Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Periyavaram partici-
pated in ‘Fertility Camp’ organized by Animal Husbandry Department
at Chapallapalle village of Dakkili mandal on 01.06.2018. In this
programme, 53 buffaloes were screened on the basis of pregnancy
diagnosis for estrous synchronization. Acyclic non-pregnant buffaloes
were given injectable and oral vitamin and mineral supplements along
with gonadotropin injection @ 5 ml IM whereas cyclic buffaloes were given prostaglandin injection
@ 5 ml IM.
Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), Shri. Homicheriyan, Director,
DASD, Dr.K.NirmalBabu, Director & PC, AICRP on Spices, Dr. Rema,
PS (Hort.), Dr. Rajeev, PS (Ag.Ext.), Dr. Jaya Sree, SS (Ag. Eng.) and Dr.
Lizo, SS (Ag.Econ.) from IISR, Calicut, Shri. Mallikharjun, RA visited
turmeric, ginger and pepper fields in Chintapalli and G.K.Veedhi
mandals on 08.06.2018 and observed the implementation of im-
proved technologies of AICRP Spices, Chintapalli centre in the fields of tribal farmers. Director, IISR,
Calicut and Director, DASD planted Clove plants in the newly developed block at HRS, Chintapalli.
Dr. P. Rama Devi, Senior Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head along with technical team of
HRS, Venkataramannagudem made a diagnostic field visit to coconut gardens at
Telikacherla on 11.06.2018 and advised the farmers about the scientific manage-
ment of coconut.
Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Vet. Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem
observed feather loss in poultry birds of Girimahila poultries at Muddap-
pagudem village, Buttaihgudem mandal and diagnosed as lice infestation
and suggested external application of Butox @ 2 ml in 1 litre of water and
monitored the hatchability of eggs in poultry egg incubator on 12.06.2018.
On 14.06.2018, Dr. S Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and P. Raja Sekhar,
Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited fruit orchards of
mango, citrus, guava, sapota and intercropping of pine apple under
organic cultivation. Observed thrips damage in pumello, fruit cracking
in citrus and mango due to boron deficiency. Application of bio-
pesticides and bio-fertilizers such as VAM etc. along with organic
manures/compost were recommended for correction of micro nutrient deficiencies.
On 14.06.2018, technical team of KVK, Vonipenta visited nurseries at G.V. Satram village of
Mydukuru mandal. Indentified colar rot disease in papaya at nursery stage and recommended
application of Copper Oxy Chloride @ 3 g /l to control the diseases.

Dr.R.Nagaraju, Senior Sceintist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta,
Dr.P.Ramadevi, Sr.Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, HRS, Venkataramana-
gudem and Dr.Y.Sharath Kumar Redddy, Scientist (Pl.Physilogy), HRS,
Anantharajupeta along with the officials of APCRDA inspected the
problematic Ficus benjamina black and other ornamnetal plants on
08.06.2018 in road median from Gannavaram to Nidamanauru stretch
and advised necessary precautionary measures.
Soil Sampling
Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agri. Extn.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem con-
ducted preliminary field visits and identified the fields in Kamaiahkunta,
Pandugudem villages for initiating frontline demonstration on cotton
crop and also collected soil samples from identified fields on 13.06.2018.
On 06.06.2018 & 14.06.2018 Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC)
and Dr. S.Adarsha (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited DFI villages
such as Sokulagudem and Vedurupaka for soil sampling in identi-
fied beneficiary farmer’s fields in order to implement on-farm trials
and front line demonstrations. During the visit, Scientists conducted
method demonstration on depth wise composite soil sample and
location specific soil sample collection in fruit orchards and field crops based on area and topogra-
phy was explained to the farmers of respective villages.
On 12.06.2018, technical team of KVK, Vonipenta collected water samples
from Nagapatnam and Adireddypalli villages of Mydukur mandal. The sci-
entists explained the importance of Soil and water analysis and also dem-
onstrated soil and water sample collection.
General
Meetings
Dr.Y.Sharath Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Pl.Phy), HRS, Anantharajupeta
attended two days mango exhibition conducted at Vijayawada from
02.06.2018 to 03.06.2018 and displayed 18 popular varieties/ hybrids
produced at HRS, Anantharajupeta and was appreciated by the
Sri.B.Lakshmikantam, District Collector, Krishna (Dist).
Dr.T.Suseela, Assoc. prof (Hort.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended “India’s first ever green
roof and green wall competence” held on 4th-6th June, 2018 at the Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru and got
exposure to new concepts of green wall and green building construction and designing with differ-
ent ornamentals for indoor and outdoor landscaping to make the environment green and pollution
free.
Dr.K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean, CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended a meeting on
“Gnanabhoomi” at District Collectorate, Eluru, West Godavari Dt. on 7th and 14th June, 2018 and dis-
cussed about the updation of data in respect of Dr YSRHU.

Dr.B.V.K.Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head,
Dr.A.Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur and
Smt.T.Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl.Path), HRS, Anantharajupeta
attended QRT Review meeting at HC&RI, Periyakulam, Tamilnadu
from 14.06.2018 to 15.06.2018 and presented the research
results of respective research centres.
Dr. G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist, (Hort.), Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi
Rao, Senior Scientist (Ent.), Smt. B.Neeraja, Scientist (Path.) and G.
Krishna Rao, Research Associate (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta attended
the Human Resource Development Training Programme (HRD) on
Rugose Spiralling Whitefly on coconut, oilpalm and other Horticul-
tural Crops at Agricultural Market yard, Ambajjipeta, East Godavari
district organized by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Vijayawada and briefed
about the integrated pest and disease management with emphasis on Rugose spiraling whitefly to
the farmers on 13-06-2018 and 14.06.2018, wherein 200 farmers participated. Sri. Bonam
Nagewsara Rao, Hon’ble Member, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU was the chief guest.
As resource person, Dr. E.Padma, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta and Dr. B. Ramesh Babu,
Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem participated in one day workshop on ‘Quality
planting material production’ with all Horticulture Farms in-charges / Farms H.Os at Commission-
erate of Horticulture held at Guntur on 08.06.2018 and delivered a lecture on Quality planting
material production in coconut and integrated management of pest and diseases.
Dr. P. Rama Devi, Senior Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head and Dr. M. Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS,
Venkataramannagudem attended one day work shop to finalise the topics for tomato learning
modules at ICRISAT campus, Hyderabad on 12.06.2018.
Dr. P. Ashok, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem attended “Jack Fruit Conclave” at
College of Horticulture, Tamaka, Kolar, Karnataka from 01.06.2018 to 02.06.2018.
Dr. E. Karuna Sree, Sr. Scientist & Head, Dr. A. Devivaraprasad
Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science). Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agri
Extn.), Mr. Abulu, Fisheries Development Officer, have interacted
with Project Officer (PO), ITDA, K.R.Puram on 13.06.2018 and
mentioned about the progress of the fish farmers in the tribal areas
and also requested for registration of society and equipment like
drag nets and insulated boxes to the non traditional tribal fish
farmers.
Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), Dr. K.Rajendra Prasad,
Scientist (Hort.) and Sri.Mallikharjun, HO, Kadiyam inspected
nine nurseries located in Kadiyam and Alamuru mandals on
14.06.2018 as members in accreditation and rating of Horticul-
ture nurseries. Evaluated nurseries based on the maintenance of
scion blocks, nursery plant maintenance, infrastructure facilities,
labelling and maintenance of records and registers.

Dr.R.Nagaraju, Senior Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta
inspected the work taken up by the APUGBCL, Tiruapti at RIMS, Ongole on
13.06.2018.
Smt. Uma Devi, ADH and E. Anand, H.O. along with Horticulture Dept.
team inspected small nursery unit, vermi compost unit and electrifi-
cation in KVK, Periyavaram on 12.06.2018. Suggested to start
commercial seedling production of fruits, vegetables and flower
crops. The inspection was co-ordinated by Dr. M. Kavitha, Officer
in-charge, KVK, Periyavaram.
Visits
Dr. K.T.Venkata Ramana, Zonal Research Head, Rayalaseema Zone
and Dr.R.Nagraju, Senior Sceintist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharaju-
peta & other Scientists interacted with the farmers from Nellore dis-
trict and expalined about the ongoing research programmes at HRS,
Anantharajupeta on 02.06.2018.
On 05-06-2018, Sri. D.Sreedhar Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.Y.Sharath
Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Pl. Physiology), HRS, Anantharajupeta
explained about the on going research projects and management of
horticultural crops to 20 student participants from RASS – KVK,
Tirupati during their field visit to HRS, Anantharajupeta under
“Agriculture skill development certificate course for rural youth for
employability programme”.
Input dealers of Chittoor district visited Citrus Research Station, Tirupati
under DAESI program, ATMA, Chittoor on 12.06.2018.
On 15.06.2018, Dr.R.Nagaraju, Senior Sceintist (Hort.) & Head, HRS,
Anantharajupeta and Sri. D.Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.) along with
Dr.V.N.P. Siva Rama Krishna, Assistant Professor (Hort.) explained
about the propagation techniques in mango, cultivation aspects of
mango, papaya & guava to the first year student of B.Sc (Hort), College
of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta.
Second year Students of B.Sc (Ag) from Agricultural college, Raja-
mahendravaram visited HRS, Ambajipeta and HRS, Kovvur on
12.06.2018 and 15.06.2018 respectively as part of educational tour
and were briefed about the ongoing research activities on crop
improvement, crop production, plant protection and mass multiplica-
tion of bio-control agents, quality plant material production and tissue
culture propagation in banana .

Dr.S.D.Shikhamany, former Vice-Chancellor, Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural
University, Venkataramannagudem visited Citrus Research Station,
Tirupati on 11.06.2018 and interacted with the scientists.
As members of expert committee constituted by CDB, Kochi, Dr. G. Ramanandam, Principal Scientist,
(Hort.) & Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta visited coconut Demon-
stration cum seed production farm at Vegiwada in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh along
with other members to study the farm situations, analyze the technical problems and to recommend
feasible options. Suggested wholesome recommendations for the overall development of Seed
Production Farms under Coconut Development Board on 05.06.2018.
