Dr Vijay Datta Receives the Prestigious National
Award on Teachers’ Day
It is a matter of great honour
and pride for all at Modern School that the charismatic and
iconic scholar, Dr Vijay Datta, Principal Modern School,
New Delhi, has been awarded the National Award on the
occasion of Teachers’ Day this year. The award is in

noteworthy contribution towards
infusing true educational values among
the students and teaching community.
Instituted in 1958, the National Award
to Teachers is given by the President of
India on the 5th
of September
every year to
accord public
recognition to
meritorious
teachers. This
year the Vice
President, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu presented the
National Award to Teachers – 2016 on the occasion
of Teachers’ Day in New Delhi. He congratulated the
winners of the award for the invaluable services
rendered by them in the field of education and lauded
their service to the nation at large. The prestigious
award carries a Silver Medal and a Certificate. Later
in the day President Ram Nath Kovind hosted the
awardees at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Modern is at the pinnacle of its glory owing to the
never say die efforts of Dr Vijay Datta who has set a
benchmark in academics and discipline. It was a
proud moment for the entire Modern fraternity when
Dr Datta donned the Medal later in front of the
students who were enamoured by his towering
personality. The entire staff gathered enthusiastically
in his office to congratulate him on this remarkable
achievement.
A born leader, eminent academician and a
disciplinarian, Dr Vijay Datta is a role model for the
students and staff of Modern School. The award is
surely a precursor of many more such accolades that
await Modern in the years to come. Under the
dynamic leadership of Dr Datta, Modern School is
undoubtedly at the threshold of an era of great historic
pre-eminence.

Teachers’ Day 2017
Teachers’ Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers and it includes
celebrations to honour them for their contribution towards the community.
Teachers’ day in Modern School was celebrated
on 6th September. The teachers sang in the
assembly displaying their hidden talent and
mesmerising everyone with their melodious
voices. The students of class XII came to
school dressed in sarees and kurta pyjamas.
They thanked their teachers for their mentor
ship. The seniors looked stunning and
confident in the ethnic wear. The students
also contributed to the show with a dance performance. They thanked the Principal and in a
touching gesture presented the honourable Principal with his portrait. Teachers’ day will be
cherished by every Modernite as a special day in their memories.
Visit of Round Square Officials Modern School continuously strives to provide the
best for its students. Application to be member of
the prestigious Round Square is one such initiative.
On 30th Aug 2017 Ms Rajbir Sandhu the Regional
Support Manager of South Asia and Gulf region of
Round Square, Mr Sumer Singh former Principal
Daly College Indore and Mr Sarvesh Naidu
Director Pathways International visited the school
to see how the tenets of Round Square are practiced
at Modern School. Ms Rajbir Sandhu had a meeting
with the members of the Round Square Students’
Council where she had an informal question answer session with the students in the presence
of the Principal Dr Vijay Datta and the teachers. On 31st Aug 2017, the officials attended the
assembly and saw a presentation on Life @ Modern. After the assembly Ms Beeba Sobti the
treasure house of knowledge on history took the officials around the school. The officials then
attended a session at the HLL auditorium where a presentation on the tenets of Democracy,
Internationalism, Leadership and Community Service and Environmentalism as practiced at
Modern was shown. The meeting ended with a Vote of Thanks.

Quiz Club
Exhilarating Victory….From Start To Finish!!! On 30th August 2017 two of our young budding
quizzers pulled off a stunning victory at the St Xavier’s
Inter-School Quiz Competition. This is a prestigious middle school quiz
competition held annually and receives participation of all leading
schools of Delhi. The preliminary round saw the participation of 32
schools from various parts of the city. The team of Shreyansh Krishna
S2 D and Reyan Bangia S2 E made it to the final round with consummate
ease. In the final contest, there were 10 grueling rounds. Our team led in
each of the rounds to finally emerge winners.
A Proud Moment for Team A4
The Columban Open Quiz, the singularly seminal and foremost inter school quiz of North
India created a quizzing history of sorts when two teams of ace Modernite quizzers made it to
the finals. Our winning quartet Aatmik Gupta, Aman
Agarwal and Ayan Marwaha all of S7 A and
Aryaman Sood S7 F notched the coveted second
rank. They won a gift cheque of Rs 4000 and a book
hamper from the Oxford University Press. The other
Modern team comprising of Arshdeep Singh S7 C,
Aditya Sarkar S6 C, Shashank Ramesh S6 D and
Kaartikay Agarwal S6 J stood at a proud sixth,
winning a gift cheque of Rs 1500. The quiz was
structured into three tiers comprising a written Elimination Round with 270 competing teams,
a Semi Final between 25 teams and the Grand Finale of three rounds among 12 teams on
September 2nd 2017. Our winners valued this victory as a defining personal triumph since the
Columban Open Quiz represents the pinnacle of achievement.
Sports
Athletics In the Delhi State Athletic Meet which was held at Chattarsal Stadium from 1st to 3rd September
2017, Arshiya Choudhary won a Gold in the Shot Putt event in the U 14 Girls category and
Dipankar Verma won the Gold in the High Jump event in the U 20 Boys category.
Table Tennis In the 3rd Sports Inter School Table Tennis championship held at Hansraj Model School,
Punjabi Bagh from 29th to 31st August 2017, Tamanna Gulshan won a Gold in the U 17 Girls
category and Mannika Kesar won a Gold in the U 14 Girls category.
