Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital was founded in the Southernmost District of India by Late Dr. N.D.

Jeyasekharan in 1965. It is now Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust and includes:

Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home is a ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 Bureau Veritas

certified institution with a 200 bed multi-speciality hospital offering OP, IP & Emergency services in the

following disciplines: Anaesthesia, Accident & Emergency care, Bronchoscopy,

Cardiology/Interventional Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery, Dentistry, Dermatology,

ENT, Fetal Medicine & Fertility, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, General Surgery, Maxillo-facial

Care Unit), Trauma care/ SICU (Surgical intensive care unit), P.O.W. (Post-operative Ward), Labour

Unit, PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit), and N.I.C.U. (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).

The following supportive services are also available: Ambulance services, Blood bank, Dietary department, Medical laboratories (Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Microbiology Labs), Occupational Therapy department, Physiotherapy department, Speech & language pathology, 24 hours Pharmacy and Mortuary. X-Ray, Ultrasound and CT Scan services are also available.

Medical Records, Nursing Services, Counselling, Equipment maintenance Dept (EMD), CSSD, Housekeeping, Human Resources, EDP / Information Technology, Facility Management Department, Laundry and Creche are the in-house supportive services.

On the social and welfare front the Institution conducts Medical Camps and Basic Life Support programs regularly.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

The Institution is recognized by National Board of Examinations, New Delhi to train

candidates in General Surgery and Anaesthesia towards the Post Graduate degree of Diplomate

National Board (DNB). Surgical workshops, CME’s, CNE’s, Seminars, Symposia and journal club

meetings & medical camps are conducted regularly.

QUALITY POLICY

Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust College of Allied Health Sciences was started in the year 2015 with

the aim of transforming the students joining these courses into highly skilled paramedical service

providers. The college is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University with an annual intake

of 20 students per year.

MISSION

To educate and prepare individuals to be competent, Compassionate and Ethical Allied Health

Professionals from Demographically diverse backgrounds to meet the future health care needs of the

community.

COURSE DETAILS

GUIDELINES FOR ADMISSION TO ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

1. The B.Sc. courses are affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R University. The course duration is 3 years and 1 year internship.

2. The course shall commence from 1st August of the academic year

3. The medium of instructions is English.

4. Both Female & Male Candidates will be selected for the course.

5. Students should attend theory and practical classes.

6. Annual theory and practical examinations will be conducted at the end of each year by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R. Medical University.

7. Students should have a minimum of 85% attendance in the theory and 100% in the practical to be eligible to appear for the annual examination.

8. After successful completion of the course a Bachelor of Science degree is awarded by the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

1. Candidate should pass in +2 with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Botany and Zoology (Science

& Maths Group) with minimum 35 % Marks in each subject separately including English.

2. A Candidate should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or would complete the

said age on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the course.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1. Application form and Prospectus can be obtained from the Office/ Principal, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical

Trust, College of Allied Health Sciences, K.P.Road, Nagercoil - 629003, and apply in prescribed form. A

copy of the Prospectus and Application will be sent to the candidate on request made to the Principal

together with a payment of Rs.300/- by Cash/Bank Demand Draft (Rs.350/-) drawn in favor of the Dr.

Jeyasekharan Medical Trust School of Nursing , payable at Nagercoil. This amount is NOT refundable.

2. The application should be filled in by the applicant in his/her own handwriting legibly and in block letters.

3. The candidate should write his/her full name as in the S.S.L.C. Certificate.

4. Completed application forms along with relevant enclosures (Attested Photo copies of H. Sc / +2 /

Equivalent Mark sheet, 10th Mark Sheet, Transfer Certificate , Migration Certificate ( other than H.Sc of

Tamil Nadu), No objection certificate ( for Foreign Candidates), Community Certificate, Conduct

Certificate, Medical Fitness (Original), 6 copies of recent colour passport size photograph along with the

Demand Draft should be sent to the Course Director, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, College of Allied

health Sciences, K.P. Road, Nagercoil -629003.

REGISTRATION FOR ADMISSION

Those finally selected for admission after interview and test will be required to register for the course by

paying the tuition fee and admission formalities. Students should submit their original certificates.

ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE

Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination equivalent to the higher secondary examination

conducted by any other than the Government of Tamil Nadu should produce an eligibility certificate from

the Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R. Medical University before seeking admission.

BASIS FOR ADMISSION

1. Selection is based on merit. There will be written tests in English, general knowledge, Science. There will also be a personal interview to assess aptitude, personality and proficiency in English.

2. If the candidate is selected, he/she has to undergo a medical examination and if fit can join the course.

3. The decision of the selection committee is final.

The B.Sc. in Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia

Technology course is related to the management of the

Operation Theatre. The course prepares the student for

managing the patients, looking after surgical instruments

and their sterilization and safety.

The students are trained in both theoretical &

practical aspects of operation Theatre technology to assist

surgical teams during operation. The course aims to train

and create proficient technician to provide technical

assistance to surgeons and anaesthesiologist.

They will be trained by expert personnel in Basic

life Support, Airway management in emergency situations

and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The course is of 3

years duration plus one-year internship. On successful

completion of the course a Bachelor of Science degree in

operation theatre and Anaesthesia technology is awarded

by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.

COURSES

II. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN DIALYSIS TECHNOLOGY

Dialysis is a Medical procedure that acts as an

artificial kidney by removing waste from the blood and

excess fluids from the body when kidney failure or

disease prevents them from doing so. Dialysis

technician is trained to monitor the condition of the

patient and to guide the patient through the Dialysis

process. The 3 year graduate programme seeks to

provide theoretical and practical training relevant to

current dialysis, clinical practice and maintenance of

the equipment.

The course is 3 years duration plus one-year

internship. On successful completion of the course a

Bachelor of Science degree in Dialysis Technology is

awarded by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical

University.

III. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN RADIOLOGY & IMAGING TECHNOLOGY

Radiology is the branch or specialty of Medicine that

deals with the study and application of Imaging Technology

like x-ray and Radiation to Diagnosing and treating

diseases. Radiology Technologists are Health Care

Professional who perform diagnostic Imaging Procedures

and are responsible for accurately positioning patients and

ensuring that a quality diagnostic image is produced.

Radiology Technicians produce clear and accurate images

of the body that enable physicians to diagnose and treat

medical conditions that would otherwise be difficult to

document. Radiology Technicians operate sophisticated

equipment that includes X-ray, Mammography, and

Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) and Position

Emission Tomography (PET) scan devices.

The course is a 3 years duration plus one year

internship. On successful completion of the course a

Bachelor of Science degree in Radiology & Imaging Technology is awarded by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R.

Medical University.

COLLEGE DETAILS

The School & College is opened from 9.00 Am to 5.00 PM on week days and from 9.00 AM to 1.00

Pm on Saturdays. All business with the school, Hostel may be attended during office hours. Please note

that the office remains closed on certain public holidays.

You may meet the Principal between 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm from Monday to Friday. If you require meeting the

Principal at any other time, you are requested to make on appointment before coming. This may be done

via telephone.

2. FACULTY

Classes are conducted by highly experienced Physicians, Surgeons and technical people of

respective departments. We have a full time and part time faculty. The faculty takes responsibility in

motivating the students in their education & training.

The students are provided with Latest equipment’s which includes computers internet connection

for learning, slides, overhead projectors LCD Projector & equipment’s such as laser printers, scanners &

CD writers together with a wide range of audio visual and multimedia facilities.

The laboratories for Anatomy, Nutrition,

Fundamentals of Nursing, Microbiology,

Biochemistry, Audio-Visual Aids and Computers

technical skills before the students have practice

Library is a treasure-house of knowledge.

A well-stocked library is there in our institution

with latest edition of nursing & paramedical text

books, journals, magazines and newsletter

including internet connection to cater to the

needs of our students & staff to help them keep

abreast with the fast paced world.

4. CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

The clinical experience of students is

offered at Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital and Nursing

Home. It is a 200 bedded multi-speciality

Hospital. Students are also posted in other

affiliated Hospitals for their additional clinical

experience.

RULES & REGULATIONS All students must attend school regularly

and punctually. During the course 10 days of

vacation is granted annually. Students are

allowed to take 10 days sick leave per year. A

leave note should follow absence from College. If

the student is absent for more than the

prescribed number of leave days, it has to be

compensated. In case of absent for more than 3

days due to sickness a medical certificate must

be produced. No one is allowed to leave the

School premises during school hours without

permission. Parents will not be entertained in the

school building during the class hours.

DISCIPLINE

• We expect our students to be self-disciplined with good behavior and mannerism both within and outside the institution.

• We expect students to show respect for others.

• We expect students to be punctual, to work hard and to allow others to do likewise.

UNIFORM

Uniform as specified will be compulsory during

the course.

EDUCATIONAL VISITS AND TOURS

The observational visits of students to various

organizations are arranged as per the prescribed

requirements of Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical

University.

EXTRACURRICULAR, CO-CURRICULAR & SPORTS ACTIVITIES:

The students actively participate in extra and

co-curricular activities.

Facilities for indoor & outdoor are provided for our

students.

HOSTEL

Hostel facilities are available for students

from out station. We have furnished hostel for

Boys and Girls separately. The hostel provides

well-ventilated rooms, recreation facilities,

sanitary facilities and good, 24-hour water supply.

Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is served

based on student interest. They have regular

medical checkup and health records are

maintained. When there is sickness immediate

medical care is given in Dr. Jeyasekharan

Hospital.
