Dr. Evers Visits Bonduel High School To Celebrate Manufacturing Month
Bonduel High School
and Northeast Wiscon-
sin Technical College
have formed a PK-14
partnership to offer
high school and college
credits to lead to ca-
reer success. BHS stu-
dents can earn credits
in the program that
transfer to college. This
partnership received
praise from State Su-
perintendent Dr. Tony
Evers. BHS and NWTC launched the partnership in 2011 to increase student
opportunities for post-secondary career success. The collaboration has allowed
95 Bonduel students to earn 368 college credits in 2014-15.
Dr. Evers visited the high school’s facilities as part of the state celebration of
October Manufacturing Month. “I had a chance to talk to the student ambassa-
dors here and throughout the area,” Evers said. “They are focused on their col-
lege career. It has been a wonderful experience. … This is an amazing accom-
plishment. The number of transcribed credit courses for a school district this
size is unprecedented,” Evers said.

Little Shop of Horrors
This past summer Bonduel High School’s Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, was a
great success! With an awesome cast, crew, pit, and plant the Audrey II sang, or
ate, its way through the musical. There were 29 cast members including Mallory
Mews as Audrey, Danny Tauchen as Seymour, Mitchell Froemming as Mr. Mush-
nik, Race McClone as the dentist, Noah Treptow as the voice of Audrey II, and Joe
Waukechon as the puppeteer of the Audrey II. The pit had a challenging task
taking on the music of the musical and did a fantastic job. Miss Callahan would
like to congratulate all who were involved in this production. The cast, crews, and
pit should be very proud of themselves for this outstanding accomplishment.

District Administrators Report
The election year and the upcoming budget debate will surely place education in
Wisconsin at the forefront of such arguments. I believe that Wisconsin’s Public
Education system is one of the best, if not the best in the United States. Through
public education Wisconsin ALL students have access to learning the skills and con-
tent that will give them an opportunity to contribute to our communities.
Funding for public education remains a concern for our school district. Rural dis-
tricts in Wisconsin are unique as the school plays such a large role in the health
and well-being of the community. Below are the issues the District will face in up-
coming years.
Declining Enrollment—20 less students at the elementary reduces our revenue limit by $183,000, or 2 to 3
FTE teachers. Yet, we may not have the ability to reduce our staffing expenses due to grade level enroll-
ments.
Student Poverty—7 years ago our poverty level was around 23%, we are now at 43%. Statistically, the socio-
economic status of students is the most reliant indicator of student achievement. There are always excep-
tions, but students that are economically disadvantaged typically will score lower resulting in more supports
that have to be provided to help them achieve and reach their potential.
Transportation Costs—we do not face the same challenges as our friends to the north, but our transporta-
tion costs are greater than suburban and urban districts. Yet, we are all subject to the same transportation
funding formula. The result is that we spend more per student on bussing rather than that money going
into programming.
Teacher Quality—it is the belief of some that a district’s zip code will dictate the quality of their teaching
staff. Wealthier districts are able to pay more, leaving the talent pool for rural districts smaller. We have
begun to see the effects of this last summer as our candidate pool for our open positions was smaller.
Economic Health—schools are truly the hub of rural communities. Athletic contests and concerts provide
affordable entertainment and a gathering point for community members. Rural schools are also a large part
of the local economy with the students and staff visiting gas stations, restaurants, and retailers.
Private School Vouchers—the expansion of private school vouchers will directly impact our district’s state
aid. Vouchers for students in Milwaukee, Racine, and the statewide are paid out from the same pool of
money that is set aside for public education. Once this money is reduced there is less to distribute to the
public school districts in the form of state aid. The result is that to maintain spending at our revenue limit,
local property taxes will increase or programming will have to be reduced.
Senator Majority Leader Fritzgerald shared in a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he would
like the voucher program expanded by 9,000 students. The voucher is worth at least $7,210 for the 2014-
2015 school year. Using these numbers the expansion will cost $64,890,000. If the current method of fund-
ing the vouchers is used, I estimate that our state aid will be reduced by $152,323.
These obstacles will be difficult to overcome, but we must find solutions for your children and grandchildren. It
will take a collaborative effort between administration, Board, staff, and community members to find the best
solutions moving forward.
Yours in Education

Mark Your Calendars for Bonduel School District’s Child Development Day and 4 & 5 Yr. Old Kindergarten Registration
The Annual Bonduel Community Child Development Day and 4 year old
and 5 year old Kindergarten registration will be held on Thursday, March
19th.
All parents of children ages 2½ to 5 years old residing in the Bonduel
School District are invited to attend the event. Children will be encour-
aged to participate in a play group where social, communication, motor,
and early learning skills will be observed. Please plan to attend for at
least an hour.
Children eligible for 4 year-old Kindergarten are those who will reach 4
years of age by September 1, 2015. Children eligible for 5 year-old Kin-
dergarten are those who will reach 5 years of age
by September 1, 2015.
It is very important for all children eligible for 4
year-old and 5 year-old Kindergarten programs to
participate to accurately determine the number of
students who will be attending our programs for
the 2015-16 school year.
Parents who are registering children for our 4 or 5 year-old Kindergarten
programs must bring their child's birth certificate as proof of their date
of birth.
All parents of children ages 2½ to 5 years old that are currently listed in
the school’s census will be mailed additional information about this
event. If you do not receive a mailing by the end of February, please
contact Julie LaBerge at the Pupil Services Office (715) 758-4451.

Skyward Family Access. The online payments can be made for food service, as well as for other fees charged by
the school (registration fees, parking passes, book fines, computer damage, etc). The process begins in Family
Access and Skyward will automatically transfer users to the online payment vendor (RevTrak) to process pay-
ment. There is no fee charged to our parents for using this service.
When making payments, food service payments made for one student in a family will be credited to
the lunch balances of all family members as the food service accounts are shared by family. Fee payments need
to be made for each individual student as those fees are assessed in the students’ names.
Please try to make food service payments one day ahead. The Family Access view will show the funds
as available immediately, but they do not show up instantly in the students lunch balance. A payment made too
close to lunch may not appear in time for lunch.
Directions for online payments can be found on the District website at: www.bonduel.k12.wi.us. If you need any assistance accessing Family Access or using the new payment system, please contact your child’s school office.

DPI Report Card Scores for School District of Bonduel As measured by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Accountability Report Card the district and
its schools showed improvement over the previous year. The largest growth was observed at the elemen-
tary school with a 6.8 increase and moving from Meets Expectations to a rating of Exceeds Expectations. The
first such rating for a district school. The remaining schools and the district were rated as Meets Expecta-
tions.
The administrators and staff have reviewed the assessment data and have written goals to improve their
efforts. Improved Reading and Mathematics instruction is one of the targeted areas that the staff will con-
tinue to improve upon. Included in their goals are methods to reduce the achievement gap between differ-
ent sub-groups of students. These methods include intervening in a timely manner when students struggle,
early detection will allow students to progress as expected.
Additional information can be found on student achievement by visiting the Department of Public Instruc-tion’s website at http://wisedash.dpi.wi.gov/Dashboard/portalHome.jsp.
Food Service Director Betsy Stanke strives to present a daily breakfast and lunch menu with a wide-variety of
healthy and nutritious options for students at both the Bonduel Elementary School cafeteria and at the HS/
MS cafeteria. The menus include more and varied fruit and vegetable options and reductions in high calorie
content items. When possible, local produce is purchased from our agricultural community. It is great to
support our local economy and provide students with fresh and nutritious food.
An all-you-can-eat salad bar is featured daily with a wide-variety of selections (olives, peas, cheese, broccoli,
cauliflower, and so on) that are constantly changing. Portion sizes of main entrees have remained the same,
but the preparation of the main selections is designed to reduce the fat and
calorie count. The a la carte choices in the high school and middle school
program also keep changing as the food service staff try new items with more
nutrients and lower calories. The goal every day is more nutritional breakfast
and lunch options for students.
Daily over 66% of students participate in the food service program’s breakfast and lunch program. Menus are available on the District web page at www.bonduel.k12.wi.us. The breakfast prices continue to be $1.00 for ele-mentary students and $1.50 for middle school and high school students. The lunch prices are $2.40 for elementary students and $2.65 for middle school
and high school students. Students who qualify for reduced pricing pay 30¢
for breakfast and 40¢ for lunch. Parents are encouraged to apply for the
federal free or reduced breakfast and lunch program at any time throughout the school year especially if their income changes. Anyone with questions about the program or levels of income that qualify can check with Melissa Trepanier in the district office (715 758-4862).

wafting down the high school hallways as members of the Bonduel High
School Student Council prepared breakfast for area veterans and active duty
personnel. The Veteran’s Day program has become a local tradition orga-
nized by the student council and attended by all Bonduel students.
All Bonduel elementary, middle school, and high school students attended
the ceremony along with teachers, staff, and administrators. A number of
parents were also in attendance. The ceremony included performances by
the high school band under the direction of Mr. Treptow and the high school
choir led by Ms. Callahan. Badger State Representative James Watry and
Jennifer Dowden spoke on the history and significance of Veteran’s Day.
Fifth grader Meghan Wondra, seventh grader Haley Quandt, and senior Rob-
ert Van Rite read their essays on why it is important to recognize and honor
our veterans.
Zernicke-Wegner American Legion Post Commander Bill Thiede offered com-ments and James Watry read the roll of Bonduel area soldiers who died in World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. The traditional rifle salute by the American Legion members and the playing of Taps concluded the program.

This year Bonduel High School will be replacing Parent Teacher Conferences with Showcase Eve-
nings. The students will display classroom projects and perform during the evening. Parents will
have an opportunity to visit with their teachers for individual conferences. Dates for these eve-
nings are:
1st Showcase Evening: January 12th 4-7 pm.
2nd Showcase Evening: May 5th 4-7 pm.
Other important BHS events to mark on your calendar:
2015-16 Course Registration Evening: February 12th 4-7 pm.
Community Service Day: May 6th 8-3 pm. Rain Date May 7th.
The Village of Cecil and parts of the Town of Washington seat
now held by Greg Rank and the parts of the Towns of Angelica,
Green Valley, and Washington seat currently held by Dale
Bergsbaken will be on the 2015 spring ballot. The seats that
are apportioned to a specific area only require that the candi-
dates for that position reside in the designated area. For ex-
ample, only residents currently residing in the Village of Cecil and Parts of the Town of Washing-
ton could file candidacy papers to run for that specific position. The delegate at-large position is
different since any District resident can file for that seat. Wisconsin State Statutes require that all
electors in a school district be allowed to vote for all candidates in a given election.
Candidacy papers are due in the district office on or before 5:00 PM on Tuesday, January 6th,
2015. Filing papers are available in the district office and must be notarized. If three or more resi-
dents file for a given position, a primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 17th. The
spring general election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th with the newly elected board members
officially taking their new positions on Monday, April 27th.
