LCCC Hosts Virtual Open House Series

LCCC’s mission is to provide accessible educational opportunities to the community. That accessibility extends to providing the opportunity for prospective students and parents to have their questions answered and learn more about their program of interest. To that end, LCCC offered a series of Virtual Open House sessions during May to adapt to the changing landscape of higher education, and address the needs of our prospective students.

Sessions consisted of faculty representatives spanning nearly all academic programs presenting information about their program and what students can expect when they enroll, and admissions and financial aid representatives answering questions and providing guidance to prospective students. Nearly 250 students registered for seven sessions.

Equity Certificate RecipientsThe LCCC Leadership Team concluded year two of

the Equity Certificate Program in March 2020, when the college was forced to close due to COVID-19. This program was designed to raise awareness of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the college to better serve our students. Over the two years, more than 60 faculty and staff participated. Participants took part in workshops and activities throughout the year and earned points towards a certificate. Participants had to earn 12 points to receive their certificate. The program was led by Director of English Learning Services, Kenza Glass and Director of Athletics, Andrew Johnson.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients: Andrea Grannum-Mosley, Carrie Myers, Douglas Brace, Jay Wilt, Jennifer Leach, Lauren Schwartz, Linda Mesics, Mary Kovalchick, Peggy Heim, Renata Redman, Allison Ludlow (Level II), Andrew Johnson (Level II), Kenza Glass (Level II), and Shelley Maley (Level II).

Bucknell University has tentative plans to hold a Commencement ceremony in July 2020, pending the status of the COVID-19 virus restrictions.

Over 130 Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) students were recently inducted into Alpha Omicron Alpha, the college’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, the national honor society for two-year colleges. The following students were honored.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the only nationally-acclaimed honor society serving two-year colleges, which offers associatedegree programs. Membership into Phi Theta Kappa is by invitation only. To be considered, a student must be enrolled in an associate degree program, have

completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework, have established a minimum grade point average of 3.5,

LCCC Alumni on the Front Lines of the PandemicLCCC alumni are working in some of the most vital

positions of need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dozens of alumni and students submitted their story along with a photo of what their new normal now includes.

One of dozens of examples of the heroic service of LCCC alumni to their community is Jacqueline Angle. Jacqueline came to LCCC to pursue a 2nd career path. After spending nearly 20 years of working in the medical profession she decided she wanted to give back and fulfill her dream of becoming a bedside nurse. In 2017 she graduated from the LPN program at LCCC and currently works at St. Luke’s University Health Network.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic Jacqueline says that those in her unit have stepped up to be caretakers for the arriving patients. “We have faced these challenges together reminding one another that we are in this together and together we will get through this. Teamwork has begun to be our mantra and those of us that are handling these patients are pulling together for the safety of ALL!”.
