DPAS Requirements• As part of your Masters Degree in Education, you are required to

engage in meaningful teaching and specialist opportunities and to be evaluated using either the DPAS II teacher or specialist rubric.

• Assignments designated as DPAS II coursework, fieldwork or capstone are indicated in the syllabus

• For these assignments, instructors will need to evaluate your work• These evaluations can be done on course assignments in class or also

through the use of video submissions.

Video Submissions

• Videos must be annotated. • Candidates can choose if the annotation is in video or

written format

Ways to Videotape• You will want to use recording software which will allow you to create

an MP4 of the assignment.• You can record with an iPhone, iPad, camcorder or even use a

computer webcam if you have room and the audio works- do some test runs ahead of time to be sure you can hear what is being said.

• Next open the video with player software either on your phone, iPad or computer and use a program like iMovie or Realplayer to edit the software. You don’t have to use an elaborate program, but you will need to be sure you have the software you need to save and share with your instructor.

• It is possible to just upload or share the video this way with one of the annotation methods described on the next few slides

Annotation Process

• With all types of annotation, candidates will select elements of teaching to highlight which will be examples of the elements required on the DPAS rubric.

• Candidates will decide to either annotate by using the minute markers within an entire video/ using an excerpt from a longer teaching video with a written description of the scene and reason for the selection or using a narrated excerpt of a larger video which will include a brief narration followed by the video example. Each is described more fully in the next slides.

Option 1- Written Annotation of Entire Video

• Candidates make a recording of the elements of the assignment(tutoring session, professional development, etc.)

• Candidates review the video, identifying places with minute makers which best exemplifies the element of the DPAS rubric.

• Candidates will then type up a description of the elements evidenced with the minutes indicated and the rationale for inclusion of those elements.

Option 2- Written Annotation of Select Video

• Candidates make a recording of the elements of the assignment(tutoring session, professional development, etc.)

• Candidates review the video, identifying places which best exemplifies the element of the DPAS rubric and editing the video down to these highlights.

• Candidates will then type up a description of the elements evidenced with the minutes indicated and the rationale for inclusion of those elements.

Option 3- Oral Annotation of Select Video

• Candidates make a recording of the elements of the assignment(tutoring session, professional development, etc.)

• Candidates review the video, identifying places which best exemplifies the element of the DPAS rubric and editing the video down to these highlights.

• Candidates will then record a narrated description of the elements evidenced with the rationale for inclusion of those elements.

• This can be done in several ways- by narrating a power point and uploading the video, by creating a screen recording using screencastomatic or Jing or through the use of iMovie. These are described on the following slides.
