The Vetlesen Prize, established in 1959 by theG. Unger Vetlesen Foundation, is awarded forscientifc achievement that has resulted in a clearerunderstanding of the Earth, its history, or itsrelations to the universe. Te prize consists of amedal and a cash award of $250,000. Nominationsare now open for the next prize, which will beawarded in 2017.

Te prize is awarded to a single individual, who canreside and work anywhere in the world. Te prizeis administered by Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
