A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available inthe laboratory of Dr. Michael Norgard in the Micro-biology Department to study virulence gene regulationin Borrelia burgdorferi, the Lyme disease spirochete.Studies will focus on the RpoN (Sigma54)-RpoS alter-native sigma factor regulatory cascade and, in particular,the role of BosR as a requisite accessory molecule forpathway activation (see Z. Ouyang et al. 2010. BosR[BB0647] controls the RpoN-RpoS regulatory path-way and virulence expression in Borrelia burgdorferi bya novel DNA-binding mechanism. PLoS Pathogens 7:e1001272). The position offers the opportunity to con-duct research in an attractive, dynamic research environ-ment with outstanding resources. The Vetlesen Prize, established in 1959 by theG. Unger Vetlesen Foundation, is awarded forscientifc achievement that has resulted in a clearerunderstanding of the Earth, its history, or itsrelations to the universe. Te prize consists of amedal and a cash award of $250,000. Nominationsare now open for the next prize, which will beawarded in 2017.
Te prize is awarded to a single individual, who canreside and work anywhere in the world. Te prizeis administered by Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
