Don’t Dribbleon the Dragon

Ibiza to theNorfolk Broads

The UpbeatBeatles

AlunCochrane

Tom is a toddler with a cool, older brother, a secret dragon… and a dribbling problem that just won’t stop! When Tom’s endless drooling threatens to tear the brothers’ friendship apart can his dragon’s amazing magic help them put it back together again or will it only end up making things worse?

With magic designed by Paul Daniels and author Steven Lee here to sign copies of Don’t Dribble On The Dragon after the show this is a warm and wonderful treat for the whole family.

“By far the best children’s show I have ever seen. A truly magical 60 minutes.” What’s Good To Do

Adrian Berry’s acclaimed sell-out production tells the tale of a young David Bowie obsessive. Powerful and touching, music and magic realism collide in this darkly funny and moving solo show; featuring the music of David Bowie and the voice of comedian Rob Newman as Bowie himself.

"Adrian Berry’s tender, tentative play...riveting, packed full of restless energy. Alex Walton gives an intimate, intensely vulnerable performance"The Stage

From the depths of Liverpool’s Cavern Club all the way up to that famous rooftop on The Apple Building, go on a Magical Mystery Tour with The Beatles through their songs.

"The Upbeat Beatles rocked! The guys had the Beatles patter down to a tee." Liz Mutch, South Shields Gazette

Grumpy-joyful, silly-serious stand-up. Jokes, ideas and (possibly) movement will all be deployed for your amusement during this show. As seen on blah blah and blah, and heard on various funny radio shows.

“a master storyteller, holding the audience before dropping an exploding but simple punchline…”Metro

An exhibition dedicated to the history of hairdressing and hair technology makes its international debut at The Civic in February 2018.

This unique collaboration between curator, renowned celebrity hair-stylist Andrew Barton and leading fashion research consultant and academic Donna Bevan, will explore the key hair-styles and technological innovations from the 1950s onwards.

The hairdressing salon and its role as a pillar of the community is explored, with the meaning of hair as a form of self-expression illustrated through local research and loans from national archives.

The exhibition charts the cultural and economic shifts which influenced keys hairstyles, using archival photography and modern and historical objects from collections including those of Unilever, Wella, Sassoon, Dome Hair Products, Lambeth Archives, Museumand: The National Caribbean Heritage Museum and Wakefield Museums. A collection of wigs supplied by Banbury Postiche and inspired by the exhibition will be exclusively styled by Andrew Barton.

Not content with nostalgia, the exhibition outlines the advancements in design, technology and creativity and also looks forward to the future of hair and salon design.

The importance of hairdressers in the community and the impact of some of the most renowned local salons are explored through objects and ephemera from key local archives, including those of Russell Eaton, Leslie Frances and Moody Hair.

The constantly evolving look of salon interiors is explored, alongside changes in technology, education and hairstyle trends.

Once upon a time there was the most beautiful garden. A garden where blossom hung from every tree, and the sound of birdsong echoed in every corner. A garden filled with the laughter of children playing, where the gates were always open....

But those days are long since gone. Now there is a high wall around it, built by a monstrous selfish giant, which keeps out all the children, and a sign promises that ‘Trespassers will be prosecuted’. Now people can barely even remember the garden, or the happiness that it once brought to all who played there...until a brave child dares to rediscover what lies within!

Selfish

Join Wrongsemble as they climb through the cracks in The Selfish Giant’s wall, and find the beauty that lies within the garden, and us all.

A brand new adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale brought to life for ages 3-7 and their families, reimagined for the stage with a recipe of original live music, colour, magic, puppets and adventure.

This famous fable about a selfish man who builds a wall, and the child who teaches him to be kind, is as resonant today as it was a century ago.

The Strategists is a fast-paced mix of storytelling, movement and live music reflecting the players shared passion for rugby and offering an insight in to the strategic thinking, planning and execution of the game through the eyes of women.

The women’s game is a different beast to the men’s game, whether League or Union. “It’s faster and more tactical. The players think two steps ahead, to get the ball where it needs to be”.

Inspired by real life stories, Balbir Singh Dance Company captures the struggles, discipline, disappointments and triumphs of what it means to be a female rugby player.

The exhibition reflects the varying interests and vibrant aesthetics of the photographic medium today, presenting work which demonstrates photographic skill and technique, alongside images exploring ideas and narratives rich in meaning and message. It encompasses single images and series work across all genres. The work is executed in many ways from alternative processes to contemporary approaches.

Elephants on Regent Street? Tanks in Peel Square?

John Crossley is a much loved local photographer, who for the last five years, has been recording the changes and redevelopment of Barnsley & Surrounding Districts. His photos have captured the character and nuances of our ever changing town.

In this collection, Crossley juxtaposes archival photographs of Barnsley’s yesteryear with those of Barnsley in the present, creating instantly recognisable, yet somewhat otherworldly images of two worlds colliding.

These images have been reproduced with the kind permission of Barnsley Archives and Local Studies.

Rich Hall's Hoedown

This acclaimed Jim Cartwright production is set in a Northern Pub where the Landlord and Landlady's cheery greeting and friendly banter barely disguise their contempt for each other; a gritty yet heart-warming look at northern life filled with misery and humour.

From the Have I Got News For You and QI star comes The Hoedown. Beginning as a withering dissection of Trump’s America, but ending in a celebration of Americana, there’s stand-up, improvised ballads, cracking good musicianship, and ultimately a hilarious, foot-stomping good time to be had by all. Even if you don’t own a hoe.

Golden stilettos, ripped fishnets, neon bobs. Doncaster, 2009. This autobiographical, three person show, follows Cameron as he throws himself into a pair of 6-inch stilettos.

"[It] is touching, full of teenage yearning and discovery"A Younger Theatre

A bold and exhilarating tale skillfully blends storytelling, comedy and original music to chart a morally ambiguous quest for peace and wellbeing in chaotic contemporary Britain.

“a really imaginative setting, it was totally engaging, compelling and challenging” John Battle MP

In a world where there’s no such thing as bad publicity, can Uncanny Theatre create enough Twitter controversy to become famous by the end of the show?

“By the end of the show, I had absolutely fallen in love with all of the characters. I left feeling more alive than I had in a while.” North West End

Origins is the untold story of the world's first murder. After murdering his brother, Cain must retrace his steps back to Eden in pursuit of redemption.

“The songs are beautifully simple, charming and witty.” Andrew Jemmett, Arena Theatre

With origami puppets, animation and specially composed music, The Little Mochi Man is the perfect introduction to Japan for young children.

Fresh from a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, rising star Sophie Willan brings her award winning new show Branded on tour!

“Entertaining and inspiring…perfectly structured with a rare sensitivity and intelligence” The Times

One of the best-loved duos in folk music with an eclectic and eccentric mix of songs and tunes and their between-songs chat guaranteed to send audiences home with smiles on their faces.

“Their music is breath-taking and wickedly inventive and the between-tunes interchange as intelligent and hilarious as the music.”Mike Harding

The T-Shirt: Cult | Culture | Subversion is an insight into the history and culture of the most ubiquitous, affordable and popular garment of the last 50 years, the t-shirt. Over the years the t-shirt has served as a means to broadcast social, musical and political passions, and most recently become a creative tool for expressing innovative design. The exhibition explores each of these incarnations of this everyday item. Spanning over 50 years and featuring over 100 rare and groundbreaking examples, the exhibition includes some of the most valuable examples in the world: rare surviving pieces customised by Vivienne Westwood in the 1970s, alongside classic designs from the archives of artists, musicians, collectors and designers.
