Engaging Our School
Avid about receiving support from our Principal,
Mr. Montano Our faculty coordinators were involved in every
aspect of our goals and objectives. Largely we wanted to involve the student body by
building awareness and excitement about the Jefferson Awards.
Dover High School does not have a service requirement and so hours are tracked by using numerous volunteer organizations that are housed within our student body.
One Team, BIG Dreams
Our vision for the school and community:
– Create a growing interest in the prestigious award
– Encourage service– Continue the success
of our program after our seven seniors have graduated
Expanding Volunteer Capacity
Winners Recognized! Live televised morning
announcements presenting them with a Jefferson Awards pin and certificate.
Picture and citation on our bulletin board in the main office hallway
Press releases and district website Awardees: Joshua Guessford, Katie
Davison, Celsi Illiano, and our most recent winner for March, Josh Stein.
Making the Money
We chose the Auntie Anne’s fundraiser
which has been successful in our school in the past A good way to involve people in the Jefferson
Awards program and make them aware of how the proceeds will be used towards field trips, increasing our account, etc.
Fashion Show Sock Hop for Haiti
Telling the Story
Engaged our student body and community in the Jefferson Awards program and publicly awarded our recipients,
Multiple visual displays throughout the halls of our school
As a team we have created display cases to compliment the program as well as our district website.
Jefferson Awards HYPE!! Our winners had press
releases sent out to WBOC, The News Journal, and our district website
Growth and Expansion
We plan on partnering with Salesianum School to collaborate and help make strong ties
– Mrs. Ballintyn, Jefferson Awards advisor to Salesianum
Actively Recruiting McKean High School through Katie Kravitz, CIS Prog. Director
– Established a connection at a mentoring summit and contacted Ms. Kravitz to add them to the Delaware Jefferson Awards schools
Innovative Improvements
We have made many exciting improvements from last year.
– The size of our student leader team: 3 to 11 – Nomination and awarding process – We require resumes with documented hours and span
over more diverse types of service. – Tracking hours: A New and Improved System = U-Give!– Larger interest in the school.– New Partners! Communities in School, Interact and the
Colonial Rotary club, and the National Honor Society to reach out to more prospective students who are interested in Jefferson Awards and what it entails.
Success!
