Recruiting Practices and Policies

Page 56: Dos and Don’ts of On-Campus Recruiting November 13, 2007 Kari Watson Emily Bronstein.

56

Second Rounds

● Second rounds do not take place on campus (generally) – Career Management does not schedule them, but come to us if you are having problems

● Second round interviews cannot take place before 5:30 PM on Wednesday, January 16th; they can call you to schedule at any point after your interview

● Don’t cancel first rounds for second rounds

● Second round interviewers must offer at least one alternate date

● You may have to make tough choices

Page 57: Dos and Don’ts of On-Campus Recruiting November 13, 2007 Kari Watson Emily Bronstein.

57

If You Must Cancel a First Round Interview

● Schedules are finalized and sent to companies 9:00 AM two business days before the interview

● You may cancel online up until this time

● If you must cancel after this time, you must contact the recruiter directly and call the Career Management main number (212-854-5471)

● Canceling after this point incurs no-show penalties and jeopardizes your reputation and that of the school

● Do not interview if you have accepted an offer

Page 58: Dos and Don’ts of On-Campus Recruiting November 13, 2007 Kari Watson Emily Bronstein.

58

No Show Penalties

● Cancellation after 9:00 AM two business days before the interview is considered a no show unless you have a legitimate emergency

● 500 bid points assessed as penalty for first-year students ● Must write a letter of apology to the company, and cc: Assistant

Dean and Managing Director of Career Management, Regina Resnick, and Directors Michael Malone and Bruce Lloyd

● Two no-shows disqualifies you from participating further in on-campus recruiting

Page 59: Dos and Don’ts of On-Campus Recruiting November 13, 2007 Kari Watson Emily Bronstein.

59

Beyond the Interview: Offers

● Companies cannot make offers before 5:30 PM on Friday, January 18

● Offers made during recruiting must be held open until February 18 or for 2 weeks, whichever is later

● Hold no more than 3 offers – if you receive a 4th, release one within 2 business days

Page 60: Dos and Don’ts of On-Campus Recruiting November 13, 2007 Kari Watson Emily Bronstein.

60

Beyond the Interview: Accepting Offers

● If you are facing undue pressure to accept an offer before the deadline, contact the CMC

● Once you accept an offer, you must cancel all future interviews

● If canceling interviews because you’ve accepted another offer, let the recruiter and the CMC know as soon as possible

● When you turn down other offers/cancel interviews it is vital to do this live, so you can maintain relationships moving forward

– Not in email or on a voicemail

– Be gracious and polite

– You may need to call on these people in the future

Page 61: Dos and Don’ts of On-Campus Recruiting November 13, 2007 Kari Watson Emily Bronstein.

61

Background Checks

● Be prepared for background checks after you have accepted an offer

● This covers your credit and criminal records. Securities firms are subject to additional scrutiny (SEC, NASD)

● Will verify employment and education history. May request transcripts

● Bring up any issues pre-emptively (after the offer)

Page 62: Dos and Don’ts of On-Campus Recruiting November 13, 2007 Kari Watson Emily Bronstein.

62

Reneging on an Offer

● Reneging is a breach of ethics and the student code of conduct

● Results in going through Dean’s Disciplinary Procedure

● Seriously damages your reputation and prospects

● Recruiter Guidelines also exist. Problems? Alert us!
