IN THE ROUND

CIRCULAR TECHNIQUE

Projects worked using this technique are crochetedin rounds on multiple double-ended hooks(see photo 1), similar to knitting with double-pointed needles.

This method can combine techniques suchas Aghan stitch, Crochet on the Doubleand Crochenit, as well as standard knit andcrochet, using variations o any o the stitchesor each o these techniquesall this is doneon the same set o hooks.

Flat items such as hot pads, pillows, doilies,etc., and tubular items such as gloves, socks,

hats, sweaters, etc., can be made withoutobvious seams.

Flat pieces begin at the center using shortdouble-ended hooks (see photo 2). Stitchesare added on each round so the piece lies lat,and then are moved to longer hooks when thestitches become crowded on the short hooks.I necessary, extremely large pieces can beinished with a double-ended swivel hook.

Tubular pieces begin at one end o the tube witha circular base such as a crocheted chain-stitch

ring or any desired cu (see photo 1).

The circular technique uses 3- or 4-piece setso 10-inch-long or 14-inch-long double-endedhooks. A double-ended swivel hook can be usedor large projects.

TECHNIQUE STITCHES

Instructions or Special Stitches will be includedwith each pattern.

When pulling up loops, unless the patternspeciies exact numbers or each hook,distribute the stitches evenly on 3 or 4double-ended hooks.

Here are stitches used in this pattern book:

Pull up a loop: Insert hook in stitch or space asinstructed, yarn over, pull through, leave loopon hook.

Knit:With yarn behind work, insert hook romront to back through center o stitch andunder horizontal bar directly behind it, yarnover counterclockwise, pull through to ront,orming new loop on hook.

Purl:With yarn in ront o work, insert hook romback to ront under horizontal bar and throughcenter o stitch, yarn over clockwise, pul lthrough to back, orming new loop on hook.

Knit increase:With yarn behind work, insert hookrom ront to back in space between stitches,

yarn over, pull through.Purl increase:With yarn in ront o work, insert

hook rom back to ront in space betweenstitches, yarn over, pull through.

Decrease at beginning of row: Yarn over, pullthrough 2 loops on hook. When pickingup loops on next row or round, insert hookthrough both loops o decrease as one.

Decrease anywhere other than at beginning:Yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook. W henpicking up loops on next row or round, insert

hook through both loops o decrease as one.

Work loops off hooks: Yarn over, pull throughirst loop on hook, [yarn over, pull through 2loops] across irst hook, *transer last loop onhook to next hook, [yarn over, pull through 2loops] across hook, repeat rom * around. Lastloop on last hook will be joined to irst stitch.

Join knitwise: Pull up last loop on last hook anddrop rom hook, with yarn behind work, inserthook rom ront to back through center o irststitch and under horizontal bar directly behindit, return dropped loop to hook, yarn over, pullthrough last loop and through irst stitch toront. One loop on hook counts as irst stitchon next round.

Join purlwise: With yarn in ront o work, inserthook rom back to ront under horizontal barand through center o irst st, yarn over, pullthrough stitch and loop to back. One loop onhook counts as irst stitch on next round.

Work off 2 together: Yarn over, pull through

3 loops on hook.Join new color purlwise: Insert hook rom back to

ront through irst stitch o round, with yarn inront o work, yarn over with new color and pullthrough stitch and loop on hook. Pull cut endsnug and tie ends together.
