The Hopewell Band program dates back a great many years, but really became what it is today because of Allison Woyiwada's hard work. Allison, Marya's mother, worked hard to establish a successful music program, which Marya is working to continue by getting the school bands as involved in the community as possible. They will be competing in the Kiwanis Music Festival in April and entertaining at Art in the Park in June.

Marya Woyiwada started her musical career as a child at Hopewell. Not only was she involved in the choirs and the musicals; she actually played in the bands she is conducting today. She then went on to study voice at Canterbury High School, and in turn, at the University of Ottawa, where in addition to her Bachelors degree in Music, she also earned a Bachelor of Education. Marya continues to do free-lance opera work, but her current and primary focus is on instilling a love for music in today's youth.
