![Page 2: Doors Open Day 2013](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022073106/577cb5781a28aba7118d2c91/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
WELCOME TO THE ROBIN CHAPEL. Whether you come as part of a
Christian denomination or of none, all have a place within these walls where
the love of God dwells.
Every Sunday the Chaplain and Choir of the Chapel sing the service of
Choral Evensong, with Choral Eucharist being celebrated on the first Sunday
of every month. As part of the Chapel’s interdenominational foundation we
have regular visiting preachers from across the various Christian churches.
There is an invitation to all to join us in worship at the Robin Chapel.
Solemn Feast days, where appropriate, are normally transferred to the
nearest Sunday, or within the octave.
Full details of services and of other events can be accessed on the Chapel

INTROIT
Sing joyfully to God our strength; sing loud unto the God of Jacob!
Take the song, bring forth the timbrel, the pleasant harp, and the
viol. Blow the trumpet in the new moon, even in the time
appointed, and at our feast day. For this is a statute for Israel, and a
law of the God of Jacob. Music: William Byrd
Words: Ps. 81:1-
HYMN
Blessed city, heavenly Salem,
Vision dear of peace and love,
Who of living stones art builded
In the height of heaven above,
And, with angel hosts encircled,
As a bride dost earthward move;
Christ is made the sure foundation,
Christ the head and cornerstone,
Chosen of the Lord, and precious,
Binding all the Church in one;
Holy Sion's help for ever,
And her confidence alone.
To this temple, where we call thee,
Come, O Lord of Hosts, today;
With thy wonted loving-kindness
Hear thy servants as they pray,
And thy fullest benediction
Shed within its walls alway.
Here vouchsafe to all thy servants
What they ask of thee of gain;
What they gain from thee, for ever
With the blessèd to retain,
And hereafter in thy glory
Evermore with thee to reign. Words: Latin, before 9th Century, tr. J.M. Neale
Tune: Westminster Abbey (from Henry Purcell)

We confess to God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, that
we have sinned in thought, word and deed, through our own grievous
fault. Wherefore we pray to God to have mercy on us. Almighty God have
mercy upon us, forgive us all our sins and deliver us from evil, confirm
and strengthen us in all goodness, and bring us to life everlasting. Amen.
May the Almighty and merciful Lord grant unto you pardon and remission
of all your sins, time for true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace
and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
PRECES
O Lord, open thou our lips;
And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
O God, make speed to save us;
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without
end. Amen.
Praise ye the Lord;
The Lord’s name be praised. Setting by Kenneth Leighton
PSALM 150 sung by the choir
O PRAISE God in his holiness :
praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him in his noble acts :
praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Praise him in the sound of the trumpet :
praise him upon the lute and harp.
Praise him in the cymbals and dances :
praise him upon the strings and pipe.
Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals :
praise him upon the loud cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath :
praise the Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son :
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be :
world without end. Amen. Chant by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford

FIRST LESSON: Amos 6:1, 4-7
Read by Donna Dalgetty, Verger.
MAGNIFICAT
My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit hath rejoiced in God
my Saviour. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For he that is mighty hath magnified me and holy is his Name.
And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations.
He hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud
in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty
from their seat and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath
filled the hungry with good things and the rich he hath sent empty
away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel: as
he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it
was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end.
Amen. Setting by Herbert Howells (The Gloucester Service)
SECOND LESSON: Luke 16:19-31
Read by Julian Birchall, Chairman of the Thistle Trust.
NUNC DIMITTIS
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy
word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation; Which thou hast
prepared : before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the
Gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory be to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the
beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. Setting by Herbert Howells (The Gloucester Service)
CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in
Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified,
dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he rose again
from the dead: He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost: The holy Catholick Church; The
Communion of Saints: The Forgiveness of sins: The Resurrection of the
body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

RESPONSES
The Lord be with you;
And with thy Spirit.
Let us pray.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.
O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us;
And grant us thy salvation.
O Lord, save the Queen;
And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee.
Endue thy Ministers with righteousness;
And make thy chosen people joyful.
O Lord, save thy people;
And bless thine inheritance.
Give peace in our time, O Lord;
Because there is none other that fighteth for us,
but only thou, O God.
O God, make clean our hearts within us;
And take not thy Holy Sprit from us.
Let us pray.
COLLECT FOR THE DAY
O Almighty God, in thy glory we celebrate this thy house of prayer: we
praise thee for the many blessings thou hast given to those who worship thee
here: and we pray that all who seek thee in this place may find thee, and,
being filled with the Holy Spirit, may become a living temple acceptable to
thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
COLLECT FOR PEACE:
O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do
proceed: give unto thy servants that peace which the world cannot give; that
both our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that by thee
we being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest
and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

COLLECT FOR AID AGAINST ALL PERILS
Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy
defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only
Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
ANTHEM
And there was war in heav’n. Michael and his angels fought
against the dragon; dragon fought and his angels and prevailed
not. Neither was their place found any more in heav’n. And I heard
a loud voice saying in heav’n: Now is come salvation and strength;
and the kingdom of our God, and the power of Christ. For the
accuse of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before
God day and night; and they overcame them by the blood of the
lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their
lives unto death. Words: Revelation 12:7, 8, 10, 11.
Music: Neil Cox
ADDRESS: The Revd Dr Russell Barr
PRAYERS
Lord in your mercy:
Hear our prayer.
PRAYER OF KING HENRY VI
O Lord Jesus Christ, who hast created and redeemed me, and hast brought
me hither where I am: Thou knowest what Thou wouldst do with me. Do
with me according to Thy will, with mercy. Amen.
HYMN
Angel voices, ever singing
Round thy throne of light,
Angel harps, for ever ringing,
Rest not day nor night;
Thousands only live to bless thee,
And confess thee
Lord of might.

Yea, we know that thou rejoices
O’er each work of thine;
Thou didst ears and hands and voices
For thy praise design;
Craftsman’s art and music’s measure
For thy pleasure
All combine.
In thy house, great God, we offer
Of thine own to thee,
And for thine acceptance proffer,
All unworthily,
Hearts and minds and hands and voices,
In our choicest
Psalmody.
Honour, glory, might, and merit
Thine shall ever be,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Blessèd Trinity.
Of the best that thou hast given,
Earth and heaven
Render thee. Words: Francis Pott
Tune: Angel Voices (E.G. Monk)
