In 1880 Lewis Norton invented a

device that could stop the doors

from slamming shut in the freshly

built Boston Trinity Church. His idea,

to control a door while it closed by

regulating the air passing through a

chamber, proved so innovative he

formed the Norton Door Closer

Company in the city. And business

boomed.

Twenty years later Norton unveiled

the fluid door closer, which replaced

air with a spring in oil whose

movement was controlled by valves

that could be adjusted.

It was an invention that remains

fundamentally unchanged to this day.

Installation Made EasyThe era of time-consuming, tricky to install door closers is over. ASSA ABLOY door closers are designed to be incredibly easy to fit to any door by anyone.

Take the stress out of measuring and drilling; every ASSA ABLOY door closer comes complete with an installation template which you can tape to the door and frame.

You can also modify the unit when it is fitted using the height adjustable pinion system, giving you up to 14mm (9/16”) in vertical movement, while the plate allows for horizontal adjustment up to 6mm (1/4”).

Safety And Comfort GuaranteedWith ASSA ABLOY door closers, you can have a door that is both easy to use while meeting fire and safety requirements.

ASSA ABLOY CAM-Motion® door closers are the first choice for many buildings housing elderly, young or disabled people because of the low opening forces they provide.

ASSA ABLOY Door Closers Easy to install, use and maintain.

The BS 8300 Standard requires a door to require no more than 30 Newtons of force to open through the first 30º of its arc and a maximum of 22.5 Newtons from 30º to 60º.

ASSA ABLOY door closers meet these stringent demands, providing low opening forces to make doors easy to use by anyone, while also having sufficient closing force to effectively seal against fire. ASSA ABLOY CAM-Motion® door closers are also suitable for use on doors subject to more extreme environments, with some models designed for external doors exposed to heavy use or high wind pressure.

Easy Maintenance A typical door has to endure a long hard life. They take occasional (or regular) knocks and continual use which eventually affects how they sit and work within the frame.

How do you balance the need to have doors that seal effectively against fire and smoke and yet can be easily used by the young, elderly or less-abled?

ASSA ABLOY CAM-Motion door closers give you door control that meets both these needs - improving the user experience and satisfaction of your building.

Precisely engineered to change the level of force compared to door angle, the design holds a door within a seal yet drops the amount of force required to open after it has left the frame. This makes our cam actuated closer ideal for for use in schools, hospitals, sheltered accommodation and other places where young, old or less abled people need access.

Take a look at the graph on the right. You can see the initial force required to move a door out of the frame, which then falls quickly away as the door angle increases.

The closure path also shows the door maintaing over 80% of it’s opening force, closing the door at a similar rate of force to effectively seal the leaf in the frame - a performance that ensure ASSA ABLOY CAM-Motion door closing systems meet both EN 1154 and BS 8300 standards.

It is the superior design and engineering excellence of ASSA ABLOY’s high efficiency CAM-Motion door closers that permit the co-existence of improved door opening for accessibility, whilst retaining reliable door closing for fire and smoke control.
