MINER FANS, THE TIME IS NOW!

We have the opportunity to take UTEP Athletics to a level that it has never experienced, with sustained success for every sports program and teams that compete for and win championships. The Miner Athletic Club (MAC) is the organization that raises money annually for scholarships and a host of other endeavors. Their mission is to Create Champions through fundraising and providing the necessary resources that Miner coaches and student-athletes need to recruit, train, travel and compete.

I always talk about giving, generosity, being thankful and helping those less fortunate. I would like to take this time to sincerely thank you for your ongoing support. It means a great deal to our department and our student-athletes! Your generosity ensures that resources will be available for our beloved Miners.

I am excited about the group of head coaches that we have leading our programs right now. We have hired five new head coaches in the sports of men’s basketball, football, rifle, soccer and volleyball. These coaches have brought new ideas, fresh energy and a belief that we can and will win at UTEP. I can promise you that these coaching staffs will be doing their part to Create Champions.

It has been an amazing first year and a half for me at UTEP! I believe with all of my heart that UTEP can enjoy as much success as any school in the country, but we need your help to accomplish our goals. We need to have more people join the MAC -- we have a goal of reaching 4,000 members, which would place us atop Conference USA for number of athletic donors. We need to increase our season ticket numbers significantly in all of our sports. Season ticket sales represent the “barometer” of a healthy department and we have been lagging in this area. These two critical areas generate the most revenue for our department and will provide the fuel we need to get us where we want to go. We also want to create exceptional experiences for our student-athletes, while providing opportunities for academic accomplishment and social development.

This vision can’t be accomplished without the support of people like you. In closing, and on behalf of UTEP Athletics’ student-athletes, coaches and staff members, thank you for being a positive difference-maker. The future is extremely bright for the Miners!

Never forget that “Every Person Makes A Difference” #EPMAD

Go Miners,

SCHOLARSHIPSScholarships for Miner student-athletes remains the largest annual expense incurred by UTEP Athletics. Each year the athletics department spends over $7 million to provide educational opportunities and assistance for approximately 325 student-athletes. Scholarship expenses are complex and vary based on numerous factors including the sport the student-athlete competes in, whether the student-athlete resides in state or out of state, their year in school, their major, their housing needs, and more. As tuition, room and board, books and other scholastic costs continue to go up, the overall expense for UTEP Athletics grows. Consider this example, one full scholarship student-athlete on average annually costs the department $22,470.

FACILITIESFacilities are integral to sport program performance and many times serve as the home away from home for student-athletes and coaches. They train, practice, compete, eat, rest, recuperate, and learn in these spaces. Facilities also help to shape the game day experience for fans and act as engagement hubs for a university. Competition venues, where tickets are sold, provide a significant revenue stream for the athletics department. The role and impact that facilities have is immense. Recognizing this significance, UTEP Athletics is continually identifying needs as well as opportunities to make improvements or initiate new construction. Most facility enhancements and additions must be funded through private contributions.

D O N O R S U P P O R T A R E A SSPORT EXCELLENCE FUNDSTo compete at the highest levels, each of UTEP’s 16 varsity athletic programs require additional funding above and beyond their standard operating budget. Through the generosity of donors and their contributions, sports are able to purchase supplementary items and services that are critical to success. Many times, sport excellence dollars are used for specialized equipment, technology, team travel and meals, minor facility improvements, and other similar costs that increase competitiveness as well as enhance the student-athlete experience.

ENDOWMENTSAn endowment gift establishes a tradition of support for UTEP Athletics, providing significant impact for years to come. Starting at a minimum of $25,000, endowments can be structured to support scholarships or operational funding for the department or a specific sport program, helping to achieve competitive excellence. In addition to the flexibility that endowments provide, allowing to match donor passion with a specific need, they also offer a tremendous opportunity to honor someone, creating a lasting legacy.

PLANNED GIVINGMiner fans and supporters can create a bond that lasts forever with UTEP Athletics by including the department in their overall tax, estate and financial plans. The Miner Athletic Club can assist individuals who would like to leave a legacy gift whether that be through trusts, gift annuities, life insurance, retirement plans, stock and/or real estate. By making a planned gift to UTEP Athletics, individuals are able to maximize tax savings but also have a profound impact on the long-term success of Miner student-athletes.

ESTATE/BEQUEST GIFTS Include UTEP Athletics in your will by leaving the department or a sport program a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate.

• Beneficiary Designations – Name UTEP Athletics as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, IRA or other qualified retirement plan.

• Additional Long-Term Gift Options – Consider UTEP Athletics when planning your charitable lead trusts, remainder trusts and gift annuities.

GIFT-IN-KINDIndividuals and businesses are able to contribute goods and/or services to UTEP Athletics in order to help offset budget expenditures. Examples include advertising, food, beverages, apparel, merchandise, transportation, courtesy cars, hotel accommodations, office supplies, and electronics. Gift-In-Kind is valued at fair market value and must be approved by the Miner Athletic Club prior to claiming for tax purposes/benefits each year. Gift-In-Kind contributions are eligible for most Miner Athletic Club membership benefits.

J I M S E N T E RUTEP Director of Athletics

“Circle of Champions gifts provide the margin of excellence that our revenue-generating sports need to be competitive. Donors committed to this level of excellence really understand what it takes to create and foster continual championship efforts by our sports, student-athletes and coaches.”

DA N A D I M E LUTEP Football Coach

“I know how much passion the UTEP community and family has for UTEP and UTEP Football. We all have a hunger to turn the program into a success. We need that passion to show in the form of finances and support. Your UTEP Miners need to be afforded the same opportunities to prepare at the same level as their opponents. That is where we need you to make a difference!”

R O D N E Y T E R RY UTEP Men’s Basketball Coach

“College Basketball is truly a partnership between a university and their community, both striving for success in the classroom and on the court. The financial contributions of close supporters greatly enhances the student-athlete experience, while maintaining competitiveness in an ever-changing landscape.”

Importance and Merit of NCAA Rules Compliance for Miner Athletic Club Members:

As a member of the Miner Athletic Club, you are also considered a “representative of UTEP’s athletics interests,” a term which is more colloquially known as a “booster.” All UTEP coaches and staff are dedicated to the integrity of our athletics teams and program and we need the teamwork of our supporters to uphold these values. Therefore, it is important that UTEP boosters work with the Athletics Compliance Office to protect the eligibility of both our student-athletes and prospective student-athletes. For more information, please visit our webpage located at UTEPMiners.com/compliance.

What are the general rules surrounding recruiting and boosters?Boosters should not be involved in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes. A prospective student-athlete is anyone who has started classes for the ninth grade, regardless of whether they participate in high school sports. Boosters should not attempt to contact a prospect or influence their decision to attend UTEP. This includes messaging prospects on social media, both publicly and privately.

What is an “extra benefit” and why do I need to know this term?An extra benefit is anything that is provided to a student-athlete or a student-athlete’s family and friends by an institutional staff member or a booster that is not available to the general student body or general public. Providing anything considered an extra benefit to one of our student-athletes or their family/friends jeopardizes their eligibility to compete for UTEP.

This includes (but not limited to):• Free restaurant meals, drinks, movie tickets, or reduced rent not available to the general public• Providing premium seating/tickets to student-athletes• Gift of clothing or equipment• Cash or like-items

Permissible Activities:• Boosters may employ student-athletes provided they make arrangements through the Athletic Department.• A student-athlete or the entire team may be invited to the home of a booster for an occasional meal with the prior approval from the

Athletics Compliance Office.

#AskBeforeYouAct: The number one way to diminish the likelihood of violations is to contact the Athletics Compliance Office before acting.
