DONG Energy Generation sells electricity to
the wholesale markets of North European
power exchanges such as Nord Pool and the
German EEX European Energy Exchange.
The price of electricity is determined on the
basis of supply and demand. The price is highly
dependent on the water reservoirs in Norwayand Sweden and on the general supply and
demand situation in Northern Europe.
Large quantities of precipitation in Scandinavia
increase power production at Scandinavian
hydropower plants which leads to lower
electricity prices whereas limited precipitation
results in reduced power production and
therefore increased prices.
The Danish power market consists of
two zones: Western Denmark (DK1)
and Eastern Denmark (DK2)

Core Competencies:
Ability to complete complex energy projects inthe multi million USD class with many
contractors (split package) within frames of
time, cost and performance.
Ability to handle alle phases of a power plant
project from feasibility studies over design and
procurement to construction supervision andcommisssioning

Within research and development our most important focal points are the
development of highly efficient power plants, renewable energy sources and
technologies to reduce the impacts on the environment of our power plants. The three main projects right now are:
RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION
AD700 Advanced steam data,
700 degrees Celsius steam temperatureThe objective of the project is to develop newmaterials which will allow an increase of the boiler
steam temperature to 700 C to ensure a higheroutput rate and lower CO2emissions.
CASTOR CO2from Capture to StorageThe objective of the project is to separate CO2fromthe power plant flue gases and to investigate thepossibilities of re-using the carbon dioxide forenhanced oil production in oil fields.
IBUSIntegrated Biomass
Utilisation SystemThe objective of the project is to processbiomass like straw into ethanol (alcohol)
for use as an additive to gasoline. The process is energy-heavy and there aregood synergies to be obtained in the
production of ethanol in connection withpower plants.

will choose to work with suppliers and partners
who have and act according to policies for quality, working environment and the environment ingeneral.
Policies for quality, working environment and the environment in general
In DONG Energy we:
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES
will identify objectives, evaluate results andcurrently improve these and be the best in thebusiness.
make sure that we work in accordance withthe legislation in force and current standardsand requirements.
will communicate openly about things relatedto our objectives for quality, workingenvironment and the environment in generaland about our results in these fields.

In DONG Energy we work hard to reduce
the impacts on the environment of our power
and heat production.
As a consequence hereof we have built in
environmental plants at several of our power
plants.
ENVIRONMENT
Desulphurisation plants remove 90-98 %
of the sulphur compounds in the flue gas.
DeNOx plants break down more than 80 %of the nitric oxides in the flue gas.
Fly ash separators remove up to 99.9 %
of the fly ash in the flue gas particles.

When coal, oil, biomass and waste are used
as fuels, a number of minerals and residues
are produced such as fly ash, bottom ash, gypsum and slag.
ENVIRONMENT
Fly ash is used in concrete and cement.
Bottom ash is used in building blocks and
insulation materials.
Gypsum is used in panels and cement.
Bottom ash from biomass-fired boilers is used in
agricultural fertilizers.
Slag is used as sand and gravel replacement in
many types of construction projects.
