My name is Mr. Gordon. This is the beginning of my 21st year as a teacher! I love teaching and my goal is to make Social Studies class interesting, engaging, and fun. When students truly engage in learning, it is the opposite of boring and they we learn a whole lot more in the process. I hope that you join me in this new adventure with a positive attitude and willingness to participate!

Hello, I am Ms. O’Callaghan and I am a learning specialist for fifth and sixth grade this year. I will be working with the sixth graders in Social Studies with Mr. Gordon. I have been very lucky to be at Goudy for 25 years. The staff and the students are very special to me. This has been a very memorable and hectic summer for me because my twin daughters left for college this year. I look forward to working with your children! 1st Quarter L2-Early Hominids: Students learn about 5 early ancestors of humans (hominids), specifically how each hominid survived using capabilities that were more advanced than those who came before it. Students document their learning in a hominid flipbook and show what knowledge they have retained in a lesson quiz on Google Classroom.
L3-From Hunters & Gatherers to Farmers: Students complete a preview activity (cartoon) in which they examine how certain technologies have changed life for humans. They read about the Paleolithic and Neolithic age and learn how one ancient technology (agriculture) changed the face of human history. They take notes from the perspective of two fictional characters, "Neolithic Ned" and "Neolithic Nel". The lesson ends with a quiz on Google Classroom.

Quizzes (40%)
On most Social Studies days, students will end their class with a quiz on Google classroom. A successful quiz score shows understanding of the day’s lessons. There are no shortcuts! If you want a high score on the quiz, you will need to work hard, pay attention, and participate!
Classwork (30%)
Classwork includes: projects, presentations, group work, in-class assignments, and any other work that is completed during virtual class time
Attendance & Participation (30%)
Positive: coming to class, speaking, listening, camera on, responding to questions, showing enthusiasm
Negative:camera off, not responding, off task, not muting when others are speaking, not coming to class, poor attitude
