Pen & Pencil Drive 2008

In just two weeks, 1,500 lbs. of school supplies were collected from UNF students by UNF students, who all had the same goal in mind:

To freely donate their excess to underprivileged children in the Caribbean in order to enable and further education.

UNF student JuanCarlos Villatoro(CEO of eCycle Security) along with Students Without Borders distributed the supplies throughout schools in the Dominican Republic and Haiti during Spring Break of 2008.

The students have so much potentialyet so little opportunity.

Villatoro promised the students and teachers of Centro Educativo Pananao that he would return with modern computers. The Principal contacted the government, which in turn agreed to provide funding to facilitate the extra necessities.

In August 2008, Villatoro arrived to the school with 17 donated, refurbished computers.

The Dominican Vice President allocated $250,000 to the school, providing a computer room, running water, adequate restrooms and gates for security. In addition, the school’s dangerous asbestos roof was replaced.

The children were given more than just pencils. They were given hope. In 2010, eCycleSecurity & UNF’s SIFE will provide so

much more.

UNF and eCycle Security have transformed the lives of many underprivileged children and adults overseas in just two years. But the work is not done yet. With the help of Students In Free Enterprise, a group of about 20 will return to Centro Educativo Pananao and other surrounding schools during Spring Break of 2010 to provide a solar panel, an internet satellite dish,  and even more school supplies and computers.
