Violence Awareness Week October 15-19, 2012

During the week of October 15-19, Violence Awareness Activities will be held in all Toms River Schools. In the intermediate schools, students will be made aware of the signs and symptoms of bullying, violence and weapons. Some students will see a three screen presentation called Images and Mirages. This presentation will deal with making good decisions and respecting others and the community. Other students will discuss bullying and decision making through our health classes. Teachers will also be presenting classroom lessons, making students aware of situations they can become involved in to enhance our school environment.

How can students help prevent bullying and violence in

our school?

1. Try to make friends with other students. A bully is less likely to mess with you and your friends, especially if you stick up for each other. 2. Talk to an adult or someone you trust. Together, you and an adult can come up with a plan to stop the bully. If the situation gets worse, this adult can intervene. 3. Avoid situations where bullying can happen. Stay away from areas where you may be alone with a bully. Try to stay in areas that are supervised or an area where you are with your friends. 4. Don’t blame yourself for the bully’s actions. Most of the time, a bully is a bully because of something that they are uncomfortable about within themselves. If you let a bully get to you, the situation can get worse

Her passion for the sport and tireless energy has already pushed the other girls to strive for greatness. 7th grader Melissa Wilhelm has continued to dominate the course, and is in strong competition for 1st place. Co-captains Madyson Reilly and Ryann Maier lead the team of nearly 30 runners with conviction, enthusiasum and kindness. Each has exceeded her personal best times, and continue to earn winning points for the team. Spring Track sprinter and high-jump

medalist Brielle Naphier has been a welcome addition to our Cross Country Team, and is the " one to watch " this season. Runners such as Victoria Solly, Taylor Roncin, Julia Fairfax, and newcomer Ashley Bowens are moving up fast through hard work and determination. All of our athletes face each practice with a smile, and it is a great honor to coach such a fine team.

Student Drop-Off Procedures

In order to ensure the safety of our students, the following procedure should be followed between the hours of 6:40 and 7:20 AM: Cars will enter the old bus circle in one lane closest to the sidewalk. Parents will pull their car up to the drop-off location as directed by

a staff member. Students are to be dropped off on the curbside closest to the

sidewalk to avoid crossing in front of cars. After drop-off, drivers proceed out in a single lane without passing.

Remember this is a school zone and the safety of our students comes first. To keep traffic moving efficiently, this will be a designated student drop-off only from

6:40 to 7:20 AM. If you need to park for any reason, please use the parking lot. Cars are not permitted in either circle between 12:55 and 2:40 PM as we utilize these

circles for our busses at dismissal. Please pick-up your child in the staff parking area only.
