Varieties

Herding, Toy, Non-sporting, Hounds, Terriers, Working, Sporting
Purebred – Mom and dad belong to same breed
Pedigree – record of ancestry
Mix breed (Mutt) – Mom and dad have 2 or more breeds among them
Characteristics
• Dogs are one of the most popular pets in the world
• Dogs exist in a wide range of sizes, colors, and temperaments
Housing
• Dogs have been domesticated and should live indoors with human affection
• Certain breeds can adapt to outside living with proper protection from the elements
• Exercise is necessary for most dogs. Amount of exercise needed varies according to the size of the animal, age, breed and what the dog is being used for.
Feeding
• Many types of commercial food: puppy, adult, active, senior, medical
• 3 different types: Dry, semi moist, canned

• Wean 6 weeks
• Lifespan – varies according to breed 6-15 years

• Shelter – 3-4 million animals euthanized each year
• Puppy stores are bad – they get dogs from puppy mills
• RESEARCH breed and experience dogs energy level before adopting
• DON’T BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE
