In an important ruling for dogs and a critical ruling for all animalsprotected by local and state laws, a federal appeals court upholdNew York City’s law restricting pet stores to selling only dogsobtained from breeders licensed by the USDA with a solid record ofcompliance with the Animal Welfare Act or dogs obtained from ashelter or rescue, according to the HSUS. The law strictly forbids petstores from sourcing dogs from “middlemen brokers” who concealthe origin of the dogs. The NYC law was passed to address a tangle of problems surround-ing the pet store business including irresponsible breeding of ani-mals destined for the City market & the sub sequent sale to unwit-ting consumers & an overpopulation of unwanted animals. The fed-eral court found that the ordinance advanced important local inter-ests & rejected claims by breeders & pet stores. The court alsorejected the plaintiffs claims that the Federal Animal Welfare Act pre-empts local ordinances restricting trade in animals. This ruling hasimplications for larger issues where locales & states attempt torestrict sale of dogs, ivory, meat or other animals or animal productsderived from cruelty or unsafe practices. The ordinance, like manyh others around the country, depends onthe USDA database of the Animal Welfare Act violations. The USDAsdecision to block public & local law enforcement access to the onlinedatabase will severely compromise long-term effectiveness of theNYC law & others around the country. On Dec. 28, 2016, Lt. Governor Brian Calley signed into law HouseBills 4353 & 4355, two of four bills known as “Logan’s Law”. The billallows Michigan animal shelters to deny adoptions under certain cir-cumstances & to consider prior criminal history before adoption.According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Logan was a SiberianHusky who had battery acid thrown on his face while he was sleep-ing in an outdoor kennel overnight. This act was done by anunknown perpetrator. Logan lost his eyesight & was mending but at11 years old, he died from complications resulting from his injuries. The owners of Logan spearheaded new legislation in an effort tokeep animals out of the hands of convicted animal abusers. At theend of March, animal shelters will be empowered to conduct crimi-nal background checks on potential adopters using Michigan’sInternet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) & they can deny adop-tion to anyone who has been convicted of an animal abuse offensewithin the last 5 years. Before allowing an individual to adopt an ani-mal, the shelter MAY conduct a search using ICHAT

USDA PURGES WEBSITE OF ANIMAL WELFARERECORDS/REPORTSWithout any notice or warning, the U.S.Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) has purgedits website of documents & records of research facilities, gruesome animal exper-iments, commercial dog breeders, roadside zoos, circuses, transporters, horsetrainers, etc. The records document violations of the Animal Welfare Act. This wasan online database of documents related to the enforcement of federal animalwelfare laws. Thousands of records related to regulated business throughout theU.S. have been wiped from the internet as well as annual reports from labs whichcontain basic statistical data about the number & species of animals used inresearch. Justifying this move is the agency’s professed: “commitment to beingtransparent”. Taking away public access to the previous online USDA/APHIS data-base ensures there is NO transparency. Records were frequently used by animalwelfare advocates to monitor government regulation of animal treatment, & jour-nalists used the documents to expose violations at universities. Facilities can nowbe free to do what they want without public oversight & no one will ever know. From now on, documents will be accessible only via official requested under theFreedom of Information Act (FOIA) which can take months - sometimes over ayear - to process. If the same records are frequently requested via FOIA, APHISmay post the appropriately redacted versions to its website. Some enforcement records (such as initial decision & orders, default decisions &consent decisions) are available on the USDA’s Office of Administrative LawJudge’s website.

As we go to press, the USDA has restored some of the documents it hadremoved from the website. Those familiar with the records say that the USDA hasrestored only a small number of the previously posted documents. A lawsuit ispending by the Animal Welfare Institute, Animal Legal Defense Fund, PETA,HSUS, Stop Animal Exploitation Now, & other animal welfare groups.

NEW LAW EMPOWERS MICHIGAN SHELTERS TO DENY ADOPTIONS TO

CONVICTED ABUSERS

House Bill 91 signed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott replaces a previousstatute that required automatic killing of any non-dangerous dog whoseverely injures a person, regardless of circumstances & without theability to appeal. The new legislation allows an animal control author-ity” discretion in deciding if a dog should be put to death followinga serious bite incident & enables owners to launch a more tradition-al due process appeal whereby they can introduce mitigating circum-stances to justify the dog’s actions. An article published in January2017 edition of “The Florida Bar Journal”: Padi-Waggin: The Tail ofOne Dog’s Journey from Death Row to Legislative Inspiration for DogBite Due Process tells the story of how the new legislation came topass. Although witness accounts vary as to the bite that Padi gave toa young child, all parties agreed that Padi had gone into a corner ofthe office to avoid the child and the child followed. The case has hada ripple effect and Arizona & other states are attempting to rewritestate statutes. According to Padi’s guardian and a veterinarian, “Ithink the child didn’t know how to interact with the dog”.

When the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) announced concerns for 4tigers that were being held in deplorable, small cages, Landry’s, Inc. and theDowntown Aquarium Inc. claimed the ALDF defamed them & an Anti-SLAPP(Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) statute. This law allows judgesto dismiss meritless lawsuits filed against those who speak out about a “mat-ter of public concern”.The Harris County (Texas) judge issued a court order granting the AnimalLegal Defense Fund motion & dismissing a baseless lawsuit filed by Landry’s,Inc. & the Downtown Aquarium where the four tigers have lived without ade-quate access to sunlight, fresh air or natural surfaces. The judge also award-ed over $170,000 in attorney’s fees and $450,000 in sanctions againstLandry’s in order to discourage the filing of future SLAPP suits designed tosuppress free speech.

competition. Thedevice, which won a

runner-up prize,started out as a

glow stick. Wang’stheory was if you

use a light with theright wavelength, it could help turtles see and avoid nets while still catching fish.

The idea switched to LED lights, & the test results showed an up to 60% reduction in turtle bycatch. WWF & NOAA are working with a small company to

develop a better case for the light & exploring using the product at key feeding sites for endangered leatherback turtles.

This is the first state in the nation to pass strictrestrictions on pesticides thought to be responsiblefor significant reductions in bee populations withthe enactment of its Pollinator Protection Act.Maryland lost more than 60% of its hives in 20-15 – each containing up to 20,000 honey-bees. Maryland law bans the use of neonicoti-noid by everyday consumers that spray homegardens & trees with these deadly pesticides.

In response to a petition from theXerces Society, the U. S. Fish & WildlifeService will list theRusty PatchedBumble Bee as thefirst bee in the U .S.to be listed under theEndangered SpeciesAct. The bee will beprotected from

activities that could cause it to go extinct. Bumble Bees are dyingoff from farms, gardens & parks where they were once found ingreat numbers. They provide essential pollination services to agriculture valued at more than $9 billion annually.AS WE GO TO PRESS: The U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service hasannounced that the process of adding the Rusty-Patched BumbleBee to the Endangered Species List will need to be reviewed furtherdue to an Executive Order from the President stating that all possible additions to this list must now face a far more rigorousscreening, as well as some animals being de-listed. The Rusty-Patched Bumble Bee population has plunged by 90% sincethe early 1990’s.

corridor is finally free of humanhabitation. This effort involvedthe purchase of land & handing over to the forest department, creating

village reserve forests, voluntary successful relocation among villageinhabitants & using government assistant to create corridors.

According to the IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), the Provinceof Quebec, Canada, rejected a proposal to slaughter 1,200 grey seals in

Brion Island Nature Reserve under the pretext of “scientific research”. Themedia reports that sealers have been openly & illegally poaching grey sealson Brion Island for at least 3 years without repercussion. Sealers have beenopenly lobbying for the opening of a commercial hunt. The sealers wantedto analyze the carcasses to see “if the meat & oil are of high enough qualityto be sold commercially”. This type of research bears a strong resemblance

to Japan’s so-called “scientific whaling”.

Officials at the Onondaga County Correctional facility nearSyracuse, NY have implemented a policy that requires bookingdeputies to ask all inmates if they have pets at home in need ofcare. According to the LINK-Letter, Onondaga Country Sheriff'sdeputy Melissa Robar implemented the policy 1-1/2 years ago. Ifthere are pets, offeders have 3 options: they can call a familymember or friend to care for the animals; Or they can fill out aform which allows the Central New York SPCA to either care forthem during their incarceration; or the inmate can sign a surren-der form. Their final option is to turn over their house keys tomembers of the Jail Ministry Program who will take care of theanimals either in the inmates' home or in their own residenceuntil they are released.

The Hudson County Board of Freeholders has unanimously votedto ban wild animal circuses on public lands. Cumberland passed acircus ban on public lands in December. Passaic County passed aban on public lands in November. Jersey City passed a ban onboth private & public lands in September. Bergen County passed aban on public lands in July.

Heathcliff, our resident male turkey, lives withChief, our white-tailed deer, as he doesn't get

along too well with staff or visitors. It was notedover the summer that Heathcliff had not beenseen in Chief’s compound for several months. We wondered if perhaps he jumped the fence, where high vegetation growth could have kept

him hidden. In early September Heathcliff was finally spotted

... strolling out of Chief's barn! He wasn’t allthat happy to see us but it was good to know he

was ok. Then just as soon as he appeared, hedisappeared again.

A few days later he emerged again but this timehe appeared with 3 newly-hatched chicks, and

these were chicken chicks - not turkey hatchlings- following him around like he was their mom. In a corner of Chief’s barn we found the shells

of the three chicks’ eggs; Heathcliff had hijackeda chicken’s nest and sat on it!

He was so proud as he strutted around with his little babies. They came running when he calledthem over to eat cracked corn, or to get underneath him if it was raining or too cold - just like amom hen would do or. But don't dare go near his babies!! If he was bad with us before, he waseven worse now. He scared off everyone - human or animals - who came too close to his brood.

Watching a male turkey sitting on chicken eggs until they hatched and then becoming “Mr.Mom” for his three little ones was truly amazing, something we have never seen.

Nature ... we can all learn something from her. Heathcliff is now a member of the Popcorn Park Wildlife Club. (See page 9.)

A few days before Christmas the AHS was notified of a 9 year-old Cairn Terrier that an elderly owner claimed was stolenfrom him. He advised that it was missing for about 3 weeks &that the AHS now had it. The owner was disabled and couldnot claim the dog. The AHS had picked up the dog after ithad been hit by a car. Our ACO brought Jo Jo to to theAnimal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) who advisedthat JoJo sustained a broken pelvis and may need surgery. Once Jo Jo was stabilized, he was transported to our AHSTinton Falls facility where our medical staff took over his careand he became an instant hit. His favorite sidekick was ourveterinarian, Dr. Emily Marion. He was then taken to RedBank Veterinary Hospital for an extensive evaluation with anorthopedic specialist. Cage rest for the next 6 weeks was recommended in the hopes the broken pelvis would heal onit's own, with surgery as an option if it did not heal. Six weeks are now over and JoJo revisited the specialist whowas very happy to report that JoJo would not need surgeryafter all. JoJo is now ready to start life over again with a lov-ing family of his own. Thanks to the kindness and supporters of the Res-Q Fund, JoJo is ready for adoption! Christmas was a festive, busy time for holiday shoppers – but noone noticed the misery of a trio of despairing dogs that lived on apatch of dirt with cold, heavy chains attached to their bruised sorenecks. There was no food, no water or bowls. In a moment of despera-tion, two dogs broke loose and the AHS animal control officersfound them loose by a vacant abandoned house. In searching fur-ther, they found one dog still living in a plywood box. The ACObrought them to the AHS Newark shelter. For the first time in a long time….or maybe the first time ever, these dogs slept in a warm, safe place with fresh food, clean water,in comfort and safety & the guarantee that they will never ever beabused again. This is not an unusual situation with dog fighters “depositing” dogsin area so that they can use them as they need in upcoming dogfights. No one ever visited AHS to complain about our confiscationof the dogs but the important thing is, three dogs are now safe andwill get the medical treatment and good care that they desperatelyneeded. They had various injuries, punctures, torn flesh, possibleinfections – and the difference in Bam Bam on the day he arrived

and what he looked like shortly after, is a testament to will to live and our care for the helpless. Bam Bam wasthe most needy of the trio. He was a lost soul with a vacant stare who knew nothing of how wonderful life could be! For information on Bam Bam, or Pibbles, call 973-824-7080 or e-mail [email protected]. When the HunterdonCounty Animal RescueCenter in Glen Gardner,NJ got word that theyneeded to find placementfor the dogs at their facili-ty or their constructionwould be halted, we hadto step up and help.Their situation becamedesperate when the towngave them a deadline toremove the dogs or losetheir permit to go forwardwith constructing theirnew facility, and with onlya day left, the dogs werebrought to AHS/PopcornPark. Staff members fromHunterdon Animal Rescuemade the two hour trip todeliver their last four dogs

and we welcomed the beautiful pups with open arms. We couldn't haveasked for four nicer dogs! Brandy and Felicity, a mother/daughter plotthound duo, and Hash Brown and Rascal, two great dane/lab mix sisters, were a little cautious when they arrived, but their friends and our AHSstaff reassured them that everything would be okay. Shortly after theyarrived, all four girls were in our medical department getting check-ups,vaccines, microchips, and being spayed, and now they're all settled in and

It was July 1st, 2016, when AHSresponded to a call of several Koreanmastiffs that were in distress. The dogswere left unattended in the sweltering

heat for two weeks without food, water or adequate shelter.Starving and dehydrated, the larger dogs attacked one of thepuppies who was unresponsive when our officers arrived on thescene. All of the dogs were immediately taken to AnimalEmergency & Referral Associates due to their poor conditionwhere sadly, the young pup passed away. After the mastiff family spent some time getting back on theirfeet with plenty of good meals, clean water, and comfortable, airconditioned shelter, they were then transported to our ForkedRiver facility for further care. Shortly after arriving, one of thedogs, Martha, gave birth to a litter of puppies. Due to the harshneglect that she suffered during her pregnancy, she had severalcomplications delivering her puppies and needed to be rushedto North Star Vets for emergency care. Thankfully, four beauti-ful puppies were able to be saved, despite all of the obstaclesthat they and their mom faced. Martha, along with several of the other adult dogs, all hadsevere ocular and skin conditions. Most of the seven adults hadboth bilateral entropion and cherry eye, and were sent toBarnegat Animal Clinic where they underwent several corrective surgeries. As if their extremely painful eyes werenot enough for them to deal with, all of the adults had skin conditions ranging from yeast infections to demod-ex mange, all of which were treated by our AHS veterinarian, Dr. Laney Baris.

The owner/breeder of these dogs has requested that the dogs be returned to him. Due to the severe neglect and cruelty that these dogs suffered, we haverefused his request and the NJ SPCA has signed several complaints against the owner. We have spent over $60,000 on the mastiff family to date and con-tinue to care for their medical, physical and emotional needs daily. The manner will be heard in court and we will keep you apprised of the situation.

Melissa, left, and Pete, right, are two of the many ducks who call Popcorn Park home. They, like all the others who roam about the park greeting our visitors, were once unwantedEaster “gifts”, abandoned, injured or ill. We’re introducing them to you that you might

sponsor either or both and help support the duck population at Popcorn Park. We don’thave room for any more ducks, but we sure could use some help in caring for the flockalready here. Sweet Melissa would love to be loved and handsome Pete would stand talland flap his wings at just the thought of a new sponsor or two. And they both promise toshare their good fortune with their all their duck buddies - both domestic and wild - if

you will just share your heart.

I WIN!!! I found my Easter egg! But what do I do with it now?

Certain of the animals in the park - big cats, monkeys and a few others -get hard-boiled eggs at Easter (colored in a safe vegetable dye, of course.)It gives them something to play with, something to do in figuring out howto crack it open, plus a nutritious treat. But Simba, our lion from Alabama, while interested in the investigation, declined to eat it. But it was a sourceof fascination for quite some time! Simba would love to be loved by you -

might he find your sponsorship in his Easter basket this year?

Our “little boy” Duke is that inname only, because he more thanmakes up for his size in personal-

ity. Duke is a Dexter steerwhose owner could no longerkeep him, but also wanted toinsure that he didn’t go to

slaughter. Dexter steers are thesmallest breed of cattle in theworld, and though you can’t tellfrom the photo, he is about 1/3

the size of a Holstein cow!Duke has his bull-ish moments, but even tough guys need somelove. Could you bring out Duke’ssweet side and be his sponsor?

Two cougar cubs and how they grew .... hereare Shilo (rear) and Tocho (front), relaxing ontheir elevated resting “bench,” specially builtfor them. They have a ladder to climb to thetop where they like to hang out together andlook out into their yard. The two remain shyaround people, particularly Shilo, but slowlybut surely, they’re coming around. They arestill not easy to photograph as they run forthe cover at the sight of the camera. However, you can see from this photo what handsomeboys they are becoming. Shilo and Tocho areavailable for sponsorship separately on theWildlife Club and hope you will come visit andtry and spot them!

We just couldn't be happier to announce that our beautiful girl Pattyhas found the home of her dreams! This gorgeous redhead Tibetanmastiff is loving her new life and got a mom and dad that just adoreher. Patty sure deserves to be adored after the tough time she hadprior to coming to our facility.Patty was found in a park where she was obviously dumped by theindividual that had used and abused her for quite some time. Shehad mats on her beautiful coat the size of baseballs and was in terrible condition. Her ears were painful with infection and she had adeep wound going around her muzzle from it being tied shut. Evenin such a state, Patty was so happy to finally be in good hands getting the medical attention and care that she needed. Once shewas all cleaned up, Patty began learning to trust again and makingfriends. It took some time to find just the right family for Patty but itwas well worth the wait. Her new mom and dad will give her thefabulous life that she deserves and we're just thrilled for her. We've already received an update letting us know that Patty is all set-tled in and loving life. Congratulations Steve Murphy of Lincroft andPatty! May you have a long, happy, healthy life together!

Luna is quite a big dog …. but at 6months of age, she was just a bigbaby. She was surrendered by her

owner and within a month, she wasin the arms of her new owner!

Susan and James Fischetti of TomsRiver visited the Forked River facilityand picked her out! Luna is quite anarmful and a bundle of love on her

way to a new home & lifetime ofcompanionship.

We are beyond happy to announcethat Biggie and Jada have gone offto start their fabulous new lives!!!Woo hoo to these two! Our mar-velous mastiff duo came to us backin November 2015 when they wereturned in by their family who couldno longer care for them. Biggieand Jada were so upset at first ....they didn't understand why, in theprime of their lives, they wereuprooted from the only home theyhad ever known and taken to anunfamiliar place. We quickly beganhealing their broken hearts andsoon, they were bouncing back, making friends, and looking for-ward to starting over with a newfamily. Biggie and Jada had a little moregoing on than just broken hearts though, and we found a few medical conditions with them.Biggie didn't have anything too serious but when a mass was removed from Jada's shoul-der, we discovered that it was malignant. The type of cancer that Jada has did not requireany treatment but it would make finding these two a good home a little more difficult. We were just thrilled when we heard from Jenna & Joe Schwoyer of Levittown, PA who hadspotted the 7 year-old pair online and wanted to meet them. They fell for them immediate-ly, and Biggie and Jada loved them too, and even hit it off with their dog! These nice peo-ple were unfazed by the fact that Jada had this medical condition, and vowed to make heras comfortable and happy as possible for the rest of her life. We've already received anupdate, and Biggie and Jada are loving their new home and family, and their lives couldn'tbe better!Congratulations Biggie, Jada and family, and may you all have many wonderful and happyyears together! We'll miss you two gentle giants!

Past pets at Carolyn Sitarski’s house always came from people she knew or she’d gotten them as pups. Shewas concerned about visiting a shelter – would they be abused drop-offs? Behavioral issues? So whenCarolyn walked in the door with her “Chiweenie” Oscar, she asked to see some dogs. Our patient staffbrought out at least 6 dogs. She waited until Oscar picked out Ziggy – he was the only dog who gave kisses. Ziggy had been adopted out & returned with no specific reason. The 2 year-old was somewhat thin, with dry skin & a “nervous stomach”. Carolyn brought him home & gave him higher end food for sensitiveskin & stomach which has worked well with no more “conversations” coming from his stomach. Ziggy is

sweet & obviously trained by a previousowner. He was house trained, knows sit, andknows that shoes & other people items aren’ttoys. He loves attention, isn’t aggressive whenit comes to his food, & gets along with Oscar. Our thanks to Carolyn and Oscar for pickingout a perfect new family addition.

Maggie was found as afrightened, nervousstray about 6-8 yearsold. We outfitted herwith a calmingThunderShirt donatedby the Thunderworkscompany (below). Itdid the trick – but itstill wasn’t a lovinghome which is what her heart cried out for. And then in cameMegan and Mike Prenderville! They own Frame to Please in the Galleria in Red Bank where theyalso have a kiosk; Paws for a Cause, where they sell doggie-related merchandise. Any earnings are donated to the shelter in

memory of their dogs,Yoshi and Chopper. They took Maggie intotheir heart … theirhome …. and to thePaws for a Cause kioskat the Galleria in RedBank! Please stop byand say hello and ifyou are lucky, Maggiemay be there to sayhello, too!

Felix never made it to theHUMANE NEWS … and unlessyou’ve been to our website(ahscares.org) or our Facebookpage (Associated HumanePopcorn Park Shelter), youmissed his harrowing tale. Hewas on the roof of a warehousefor 3 days in bone-chillingweather. When a fire broke outin the warehouse & the fire trucks were alerted, the terrified cat jumped about 200feet from the roof! After Felix was seen by an orthopedic surgeon, they vets said itwould not be an easy surgery, so veterinarian Dr. Laney Baris at Popcorn Park optedto amputate the leg. During his convalescence, Felix’s purrrsonality bloomed! WhenJeffrey Guerriero & Samantha Cohen of South River visited to discuss adoption of a cat,the staff introduced them “to the most wonderful cat who now has a forever home withus”. According to Samantha, “I haven’t heard him stop purring since he came home. All he wants to do is cuddle & his favorite spot to sleep is directly in between our headswhere he can smoosh up against us as close as possible. He gets along with everyone

that has come over to the house. We have a lot of squirrels in ourneighborhood so if he’s not try-ing to get cuddles, he’s window-watching them. Just the friend-liest, happiest cat I’ve ever had& I’ve had cats my entire life. Soincredibly happy, thankful forhim”.

... sharing treats and toys made for people with your pets can causeillness and even death.

Stuffed toys - those adorablestuffed animals kids get for the holidays often contain flame retar-dant materials & mite control. Theyare highly toxic & if your dogingests any part of the toy, it caneasily result in a horrible (and easily avoidable) death. In addition, children’s stuffed toys aren’t manufactured to stand up to thechewing that a dog can do, makingit that much easier for your pet toswallow small pieces.

Chocolate and other candy -chocolate contains theobromine, a

substance which is toxic to dogs. Every animal emergency clinic seescountless cases of dogs poisoned from chocolate around the variousholidays. Don’t let it be your dog. Keep candy of all kinds out of thereach of pets and instruct your children on the importance of not sharing their Easter basket goodies with the pets.

Why not get a newchew toy, safe bone orspecial pet treat foryour pets at Easter soit’s a holiday all cansafely enjoy?

SPAINSix vets and dozens of hunters in Huelva,Andalusia were arrested by the Civil Guard’s specialist Seprona unit over mutilating dogs bycutting off parts of their ears and tails withoutanesthetic. The vets were accused of falsifying documents to allow the procedure which is illegal under Andalusian law. Many hunters performedthe mutilations without going to a vet to avoid a fee. Those who went tothe vet promised the vets exclusive access to all of the animals in theirhunting groups. The Civil Guard’s nature protection unit has been examining cases of dog mutilation & the investigation remains open.Hunters are believed to be the primary perpetrators of animal abandonment & abuse in this country.

Bella, a German Shepherd about 6, and Stella, an 8-year oldSt. Bernard, were surrendered to the AHS by a Newark res-ident. They were neglected & appeared to live their exis-tence in a backyard. Thankfully, they were brought to AHSlast August where a few spa days, good medical treatment, and lots of good meals and extra doses of TLC workedwonders. Now they’re both like new pups! We have to won-der if the ages are correct on these bright and bubbly girlsbecause they seriously have the spunk and energy of pup-pies. You cannot walk past Bella without her grabbing a toyand bopping up and down in the hopes that you'll play withher, and Stella stands on her hind legs to greet all of herfriends with a giant bear hug. The girls positively love peo-ple, love going for walks, love playing .... they just love life! They are goofy and silly, and both of them have the sweet-est and most loving dispositions. You will never feel unlovedif you have Bella and Stella in your life. They both feel thatregardless of their size, they should be lap dogs and willeven attempt to climb in your lap. They both seem happy tomeet other dogs and just love people of all ages. Because oftheir size, it is not as easy to find them a loving & lastinghome where they can stay together. If you have room inyour heart, you can share your love with them in the Share-A-Pet Program. File #26667 & 26686 (Forked River).

We will never know the real truth on this sad-faced pair. Bonnie, a 7 year-oldBoxer, and her Mastiff-type friend is 8 year-old Clyde. They were loving pets andwere known by many in the neighborhood. They would be outside greetingpassersby or their owner would walk them. It is believed that their owner wasevicted and was unable to take his dogs with him. The dogs were then put intothe garage where they stayed until an AHS staffer brought them to our Newarkfacility. They had not aged gracefully but the times are a-changing! Their intakephotos show two lost souls with a need for help. With loving care, steady mealsand more, their eyes are brighter, their hearts are lighter and life is good for twoorphans who would love to live together as they have in the past.
