RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

GREAT news! The Diocese approved our Plan for Reopening! We are very excited to be able to offer Religious Education classes again this Fall. This year Immaculate Conception Religious Education will offer a choice of Wednesday or Thursday evening classes. The classes will start the week of September 16th. The registration deadline for the 2020/21 school year is September 1st . How to register - Forms were emailed to all the Religious Education families, if you need a registration packet, please call the Religious Education Office and one will be emailed to you. A Message from our Pastor “You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in You.” This week, the church celebrates the memorial of one of the great saints as well as that of his mother. On Wednesday is the memorial of Saint Augustine of

Hippo, the fifth century philosopher turned Bishop who left us one of the best stories of conversion in his confessions, which remains in print today. On Thursday is the memorial of Saint Monica, the mother of Saint Augustine, whose ongoing prayers and witness of the faith to her son are said to have won his conversion with the Lord. If you have never read The Confessions of Saint Augustine, I highly recommend it. The book would be a great gift to give your high school or college student stuck at home distance learning. Saint Augustine was a gifted philosopher living a worldly life. He didn’t believe there was any chance he could ever be saved. But, over time he found his faith. The book includes an honest and open sharing of what was going on in his head and his heart as his restlessness finally found rest in his Creator. Saint Monica’s story surely resonates with many of parents and grandparents who lament their children and grandchildren’s straying from the faith. Her perseverance in prayer for her son and practice of making constant offering for him are an encouragement that we should never stop praying for those we know that we wish shared our faith. This week ask her intercession for someone you know that needs to find their faith. May God, who made you to find rest in Him help your restless heart to find the conversion it needs, and may the help of Saint Augustine and Saint Monica win that conversion for those you love as well, Fr.
