ABSTRACTThis report of the Department of Health, Education,
and Welfare to the Congress concerns the nutrition of people livingin 10 states, from 1968-70. The data presented in this bookletpresent the preliminary findings for New York City and New YorkState. The data represent selected characteristics and findings inthe population groups that were studied. The intent of the surveyswas to determine the nutrition levels of disadvantaged familiesrather than provide a true picture of a cross section of the totalpopulation. Sampling selection was based on 1970 census data, although the actual survey was instituted in June 1968 and notconcluded until May 1970. Because of the incomplete nature of thedata forming the basis of this report, it is considered that oneshould be cautious 'n drawing conclusions. Characteristics of thepopulation sampled (education, age, income, ethnic group) andbiochemistries as well as anthropometry (height and weight) and dietare the kinds of information presented.
