ABSTRACT. This test was adapted from the Intellectual

Achievement Responsibility Sdale by T.C. Crandall, 'Walter Katkovsky,and Vaughan C. Crandall. It is a ,scale for assessing children'shelieks,that they, rather thin_exiernal_forcesc, are responsible fortheir intellectual,adademic successes and failures. Previous data,lndicates,that self _responsibility is established,bylrade three andthat older girls give more self-responsible answers than older boys.This scale is designed for use withthird grade children. Each of the34 items describes a, positive or negative achievement experiencefollbwed by two response alternatives: one stating that the childcaused the.eyent to happen; and one that,theavent occurred becauseof an external behavioral action of someone else in the child'senvironignt. A score is obtained by adding all positive events forwhich he takes creditand all negative events for which he takes41ad6.
