Part 1 – General

1.01 SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONThe variable capacity, heat pump air conditioning system shall be a Samsung Electronics Free Joint Multi System. The Free Joint Multi systems shall be (cool/heat) split system heat pump.

The Free Joint Multi heat pump system shall consist of a single outdoor condensing unit (AJ020JCJ2CH/AA, AJ024JCJ3CH/AA, AJ036JCJ5CH/AA, AJ020MCS3CH/AA, AJ024MCS4CH/AA, or AJ030MCS4CH/AA ) and any combination of 2 – 5 indoor units with model numbers AJ0**JNLDCH/AA, AJ0**JNADCH/AA, AJ0**JNNDCH/AA.

The Condensing shall be a horizontal discharge, 208/230V, 1Ph, 60Hz unit. The sum of the nominal capacity of connected indoor units shall not exceed the values noted in the table below.

The Free Joint Multi outdoor unit model numbers and the associated number of connectable indoor units are indicated in the following table. Each indoor unit or group of indoor units shall be independently controlled.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCEA. The units shall be listed by Electrical Laboratories (ETL) and bear the ETL label. B. All wiring shall be in accordance with the National Electrical Code (N.E.C.).C. The units shall be manufactured in a facility registered to ISO 9001 and ISO14001

which is a set of standards applying to environmental protection set by the International Standard Organization (ISO).

D. A full charge of R-410A for the condensing unit only shall be provided in the condensing unit. Additional refrigerant is required based on lengths of system liquid refrigerant lines.

Part 2 – Outdoor Unit Performance

2.01 The FJM outdoor unit shall perform as indicated below (nominal capacity):

Part 3 – Products

3.01 AJ020JCJ2CH/AA FREE JOINT MULTI CONDENSING UNIT

The AJ020JCJ2CH/AA outdoor units shall be equipped with multiple circuit boards that interface (additional parts necessary) to the Samsung Control Network Solution (Control systems) and shall perform all functions necessary for operation. The outdoor unit shall have a powder coated finish. The outdoor unit shall be completely factory assembled, piped and wired. Each unit shall be run tested at the factory.

1. The sum of connected capacity of all indoor units shall not exceed the nominal capacity of the condensing unit.

2. Outdoor unit shall have a sound rating no higher than 48 dB3. All refrigerant lines from the outdoor unit to indoor units shall be insulated.4. The outdoor unit shall have an accumulator.5. The outdoor unit shall have a compressor overload protection, fuse, and over-

current protection.6. The outdoor unit shall have the ability to operate with a maximum height difference

of 49 feet. Maximum total system line set length shall not exceed 164 feet with a maximum individual line set length of 82 feet.

7. The outdoor unit shall be capable of operating in outside ambient temperatures between 23⁰F to 115⁰F in cooling mode without additional low ambient controls.

8. The outdoor unit shall be capable of operating in outside ambient temperatures between 5⁰F and 75⁰F in heating mode without additional low ambient controls.

9. The control circuit between the indoor units, and the outdoor unit shall be 0.5VDC - 7VDC completed using stranded, annealed copper conductor, two-core, 16 AWG, shielded cable to provide total integration of the system.

B. Unit Cabinet:1. The chassis shall be fabricated of galvanized steel, bonderized and finished with a

powder coated baked enamel.

C. Fan:1. The outdoor unit shall be furnished with one direct drive, variable speed propeller

type fan.2. All fan motors shall be BLDC type.3. The fan motor shall have inherent protection, have permanently lubricated bearings,

and be completely variable speed.4. The fan motor shall be mounted for quiet operation.5. The fan shall be provided with a raised guard to prevent contact with moving parts.6. The outdoor unit shall have horizontal discharge airflow.

D. Refrigerant:1. The condensing unit shall require R410A refrigerant.2. The condensing unit comes charged for total system line set lengths up to 98 feet.

Additional refrigerant is required if the system line set length is over 98 feet. For every additional foot over 98, 0.11 ounces of refrigerant must also be added.

3. The condensing unit shall contain 2 EEV’s (electronic expansion valves) with 480 positions each to control refrigerant flow to each indoor unit independently.

E. Coil:1. The outdoor coil shall be of nonferrous construction with lanced or corrugated plate

fins on copper tubing.2. Aluminum coil fins shall be coated with a hydrophilic/protective coating to reduce

corrosion and promote moisture shedding.3. The coil shall be protected with an integral guard.4. Refrigerant flow from the outdoor unit shall be controlled by means of a capacity

modulation capable, inverter driven, twin BLDC rotary compressor.

F. Compressor:1. The compressor shall be an inverter driven, DC voltage, twin BLDC rotary

compressor made by Samsung.2. A crankcase heater shall be factory mounted in/on the compressor.3. The outdoor unit compressor shall have a variable modulation technology to

modulate capacity. The capacity shall be completely variable down to 6,500 Btu/h minimum capacity in cooling mode and 3,500 Btu/h in heating mode.

4. The compressor shall be equipped with an external thermal overload.5. The compressor shall be mounted to avoid the transmission of vibration.

G. Electrical:1. The outdoor unit electrical power shall be 208/230 volts, 1 phase, 60 hertz. 2. The unit shall be capable of satisfactory operation within voltage limitations of 187-

228 volts (208V/60Hz) or 207-253 volts (230V/60Hz) with a maximum 15A overcurrent protection.

3. The outdoor unit shall be controlled by integral microprocessors.4. The control circuit between the indoor units and the outdoor unit shall be 0.5VDC -

7VDC completed using stranded, annealed copper conductor, 16 AWG, shielded, two-core cable to provide total integration of the system. The control wire shall be run from the condensing unit to each indoor unit independently.

5. The outdoor unit shall provide power to the indoor unit with 14 AWG X 3 power wire (2 X high voltage wires, 1 X ground). The power wire shall be run from the condensing unit to each indoor unit independently.

3.04 AJ020MCS3CH/AA MAX HEAT FREE JOINT MULTI CONDENSING UNIT

A. General:The AJ020MCS3CH/AA outdoor units shall be equipped with multiple circuit boards that interface (additional parts necessary) to the Samsung Control Network Solution (Control systems) and shall perform all functions necessary for operation. The outdoor unit shall have a powder coated finish. The outdoor unit shall be completely factory assembled, piped and wired. Each unit shall be run tested at the factory.


2. Outdoor unit shall have a sound rating no higher than 58 dB3. The outdoor unit shall have a base pan heater to aid in defrost cycle water

drainage.4. All refrigerant lines from the outdoor unit to indoor units shall be insulated.5. The outdoor unit shall have an accumulator.6. The outdoor unit shall have a fuse, over-current protection and crank case heater.7. The outdoor unit shall have the ability to operate with a maximum height difference



9. The outdoor unit shall be capable of operating in outside ambient temperatures between -13⁰F and 75⁰F in heating mode without additional low ambient controls.

10.The control circuit between the indoor units, and the outdoor unit shall be 0.5VDC - 7VDC completed using stranded, annealed copper conductor, two-core, 16 AWG, shielded cable to provide total integration of the system.






D. Refrigerant1. The condensing unit shall require R410A refrigerant.

The mini four-way cassette shall be compatible with Samsung FJM heat pump condensing units. The mini four-way cassette shall have an optional motion detection sensor (MCR-SMA) to enable/disable the unit based on motion with optional time delay settings. 4.03 EXTERNAL REMOTE ROOM SENSOR (MRW-TA)A. Connection

The external remote room sensor shall be capable of connection up to 1 indoor unit.

B. Function1. The external remote room sensor shall be used to measure the exact room

temperature. 2. The external remote room sensor shall support wire length of maximum 39 feet.

4.04 WI-FI ADAPTER (MIM-H03U and MIM-H03U-KIT)

A. Function:1. The Wi-Fi adapter shall allow remote control of Samsung FJM indoor units

(AJ0***N***/AA) from a mobile device (Android or iOS) with manufacturer provided mobile app.

2. The Wi-Fi adapter shall control/monitor indoor unit: power status, mode, set temperature, room temperature, fan speed, and supply air louver position.

3. The Wi-Fi adapter shall provide 7 Day scheduling for a single unit or multiple indoor units.

4. The Wi-Fi adapter shall allow group configuration option for simple control of multiple units at the same time

5. Requires a local Wi-Fi router with DHCP enabled and an internet connection.6. The MIM-H03U-KIT shall include DB93-11412A (sub PCB) and DB93-11405A (wire

harness for connection to AJ0**JNADCH/AA wall mount units.

B. Connection:1. The Wi-Fi adapter power supply shall be 12VDC provided by an indoor unit.2. One Wi-Fi adapter shall provide monitoring and control of up to 5 indoor units on a

single system.3. The Wi-Fi adapter must be installed indoors.

4.05 MOTION DETECTOR (MCR-SMA)A. Function:

1. The motion detector shall connect to SAMSUNG FJM Mini 4-Way cassette models AJ0**JNNDCH/AA.

2. The motion detector shall monitor occupancy and turn off indoor unit after motion is not sensed for the specified duration (30, 60, 120, and 180 minutes).

3. The motion detector shall monitor occupancy and adjust target evaporator temperature after motion is not sensed for the specified duration (30, 60, 120, and 180 minutes) thus lowering capacity of unit to reduce energy use.

B. Connection:1. The motion detector shall install in the corner of the mini 4-way cassette fascia

2. The motion detector shall connect to the indoor unit PCB with provided cable.
