2014 Annual ReportOFMA’s membership currently consists of 102 member organizations. Three are vendor members, and the rest are market organizations representing over 120 individual farmers markets located throughout the state.
2014 Highlights & Accomplishments
Board Development Developed advisory body whose expertise enriches the capacity of the board; Expanded board membership adding diversified skills; Held facilitated retreat for board and organizational development.
Collaborate Collaboration with OSU Small Farms Center for OFMA annual meeting planning and
logistics; Broadened support through sponsor organizations; Close working relationship with Oregon WIC and DHS partners; Linking markets to each other for sharing best practices about developing community
partnerships and market programs. Renewed cooperation with Oregon Department of Agriculture Support of and inclusion in FMF's FINIP grant proposal
Educate Recruited expert panelists for the OSU Small Farms Conference market track to address the
changing needs of farmers market stakeholders; Launched regular newsletters for communication with membership; Developed interactive map of member markets; Support ed market managers, businesses and vendors requesting assistance with navigating
local policy and creating sustainable organizations; Informed and updated market managers about SNAP and card services at markets; Kept active OFMA's Facebook page as tool for outreach. Provided annual display at Oregon State Fair with informational exhibit; distribution of
2,000+ recipe cards with member market information. (Estimated fair attendance: 200,000+.)
Advocate Regular participation and contribution to national conversations with USDA Federal
Nutrition Services and Farmers Markets Coalition regarding market participation in SNAP program;
OFMA advisors submitted comments on proposed Food Safety Modernization Act; OFMA advisors submitted supporting documents on Oregon Food Bank's proposed Home
Bakery bill. Close tracking of emerging technologies for SNAP and eWIC including IOS, Android and POS
products; Connecting member markets to appropriate State program representatives for access to
these tools; telephone and email support to markets who implement SNAP acceptance; Continued monitoring of developments in Oregon WIC's future conversion to EWIC; Advocated to congressional leaders for stable federal funding of the WIC/Senior Farm
Direct Nutrition Program.
In 2014 Your Board of Directors…Volunteered 1,000 hours and traveled almost 4,500 miles for meetings and market visits. The value to you and the organization, in donated time is over $20,000 (based on standard volunteer rate of $20/hr) and $2,542 (mileage based on IRS mileage rate of $0.565/mile).
