    The National Small Industries Corporation Ltd., (NSIC), an ISO 9001 certified company, sinceits establishment in 1955, has been working to fulfil its mission of promoting, aiding and

    fostering the growth of small enterprises in the country. With passing of the Micro, Small andMedium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006, NSIC has also included medium

    enterprises in its ambit for providing assistance under some of its schemes.

    National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) is working to fulfil its mission of promoting

    aiding and fostering the growth of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the

    country. One of the objectives of National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) is to promote

    entrepreneurship development in the country. This objective can be achieved by way of

    providing handholding support to the first generation entrepreneurs by helping them to set up

    their own micro & small enterprises. There is also an urgent need in the country to inculcate

    entrepreneurial skills to the youth by way of skill development through which they become

    employable as well as create their own enterprise.

    Visit Objectives:

    For gaining the first hand information regarding functioning of the company

    For getting the knowledge of an insight picture of the company function.

    To correlate theoretical knowledge with real time practice of the company.

    To provide an opportunity where corporate people share their expertise and experienceswith the students to enable them to have the real feel of the current industrial scenario.

    The Main object of this visit to learning the skills of entrepreneurship. And how and

    Individual person can start his business with the help of NSIC.

    Key Features of the operational system Observed in the company

    NSIC is engaged in basic skill development training programmes through its NSIC Technical

    Service Centres (NTSCs) and NSIC Technical Service Extension Centres (NTSECs). Since

    NSIC has few centres only, the reach of NTSCs is very limited geographically. In order to

    increase the reach there are several trades which need to be covered to cater to the skill

    demands in the country. Labour intensive mass manufacturing based on relatively lower skill

    levels provide an opportunity to expand employment in the industrial sector particularly in the

    MSEs. However, one of the most critical barriers to the growth of manufacturing sector is

    shortage of skilled manpower. This is extremely disconcerting in view of the facts that Indias

    young demographic profile has placed the country favourably in terms of manpower

    availability. People can be turned to economic assets if they can be gainfully employed. It is,

    therefore, necessary to invest in building their capabilities towards training thereby providingrelevant skills for productive employment. Available data suggest that percentage of population

    undergoing vocational training in the country is much lower than in other developing

    countries. It is therefore necessary to give special emphasis on technical vocational education

    and skill development so as to increase the skilled workforce from 5% at present to about 50%

    as envisaged by the Government policies.

    There is also a need to expand the number of skills for which training is provided and for this

    there is an urgent need for proactive involvement of Indian industries in every aspect of skill

    development.

    In this context, NSIC has already initiated setting up of Incubators which aim to impart trainingin the manufacturing as well as services sector, thus contributing to entrepreneurial skill

    development.

    Objectives of the Scheme:-

    The unemployed persons irrespective of caste, creed and gender shall be imparted skill

    development and entrepreneurship building training with a view to empower him / her for the

    following:

    i) To provide skill development training to secure anemployment in any business enterprise.

    ii) To set up its own micro/small business enterprise.

    b) Arrangement of finance for procurement of machinery and equipment required for setting

    up NSIC-TIC.

    Under this scheme, micro, small & medium enterprises can become members and avail

    a number of value added services. Some important services are:

    Supplier database;

    Market intelligence;

    Technology providers;

    Information providers;

    Linkages with relevant institutions;

    E to E services;

    E to B services and

    Value additions like directories of machinery makers and component manufacturers spare

    capacity bulletin boards, discussion forums, virtual exhibitions, etc.

    2. Insurance of Export Credit for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises under

    strategic alliance between NSIC and ECGC:-

    NSIC has entered, into an arrangement with Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India Ltd.

    (ECGC) for facilitating small and medium enterprises to insure their export credits. Micro,

    small & medium enterprises would be helped in insuring their export credits through any office

    of the Corporation, located all over the country. This arrangement shall strengthen promotion

    of exports from small enterprises.

    3.International CooperationFor the last five decades, NSIC has acquired various skill sets in the development

    process of small enterprises. The inherent skills are being networked to offer

    consultancy services for other developing countries. The areas of consultancy are as

    listed below:

    Capacity Building;

    Policy & Institutional Framework and

    Business Development Services

    Findings

    Some Findings are:-

    In this industrial visit we found that how an unemployed person can do something

    better.

    We found that how manufacturing machinery makes the job easy for the people.

    We also found that how workers operate the machineries with proper safety or security.

    In the manufacturing process we found the research work of the company for the

    beneficial of the society and for the unemployed person is greatfull.

    At last the we found that company is focusing on providing the services not on themanufacturing and production of goods and services.

    Lesson Learnt

    In the industrial visit we learn lot of things some are-

    The visit to NSIC was a wonderful experience. They gave us a closer and detailed view about

    what all it deals with and how. We came across about:

    1) How technology intensive techniques are used and up to what extent it helps to increase

    the production and in generation of self- employment.

    2) We also learnt that how NSIC constantly adapt, innovate and refine their processes in

    line with global business trends to maintain credibility and leadership in their field.

    3) They commit themselves for fair play, transparency and sincere endeavour for the

    promotion and growth of Micro, small & Medium Enterprises.
