CAN YOU WRITE IN A SECRET CODE?Do you have a secret to share with a friend? Maybe you don’t have a secret, but want a fun way to say something ordinary. Even writing or saying “The sky is blue” can be a blast when you use a secret code.

WHAT IS A SECRET CODE?It’s a special kind of language that you can learn and use with someone else. It might be a friend, brother, sister, or grandparent. The key is that you and your partner both know the code, but other people don’t.

You may have heard of Pig Latin. That’s a kind of code. You move the first letter of a word to the end and add “ay.” So dog becomes og-day. If the first letter is a vowel,

you move it to the end and add “hay.” Acorn becomes corn-ahay. Pig Latin is pretty easy to speak and under-stand with a little practice. But many other codes take much more time to master. For example, Morse code replaces the letters of the alphabet with dots and dashes.

Invisible ink is another kind of secret code. You can write notes using lemon juice or milk instead of ink. When you’re done, the paper looks blank. But when you heat it up, the writing appears. An iron will heat up the paper, but you’ll need the help of a grown-up.

DCU uses super secure secret codes to protect your money. If you see your parents use Online Banking, know that they have to keep their passwords secret.
