RCH Welcomes Mark Batty as CEO!

Rochelle Community Hospital (RCH) recently named Mark J. Batty as its new Chief

Executive Officer. The former Vice President of Operations and Human Resources at

Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, IL, Mark is currently completing his master’s

degree in Health Administration from Illinois State University. Area residents had the

opportunity to meet Mark and his wife, Becky, at a Community Open House on May

19. Mark’s enthusiasm has already helped to achieve great things for the hospital and

community, and we look forward to sharing more in the coming months. Keep checking

www.rochellehospital.com for the latest news!

Patient Stories

Positive Experiences at RCH

Having a local healthcare facility is a benefit… we all know that. But we’ve decided

to take it a step further and show you exactly how Rochelle Community Hospital is

making an impact in our community. We’re promoting stories about real people, right

here in Rochelle… living PROOF that RCH is making a difference! And – we want

to hear your stories too! Go to www.rochellehospital.com/proof and tell us how RCH

has impacted your life and receive a FREE t-shirt!

I’M ACTIVE“I’m active after having my right knee replaced because of

skilled orthopedic surgeons at RCH. The Signature™ Biomet

Knee I received is state of the art; plus, they provided excellent

care – from admission to rehab. Twenty-four hours after surgery,

I was walking. Three days after, I was admitted to a ‘swing bed’

and received twice-a-day therapy and supportive care that

helped me get ahead. A week later, I went home … without

crutches or pain! RCH definitely made a difference in my mobility.

Soon, I may be playing tennis even better than before!”

– Dr. John Prabhakar, Rochelle

I’M ALIVE “I’m alive after my heart attack because of the prompt,

compassionate care I received at RCH. Seconds count…

and they made the most of them by giving me the clot-busting

drug and communicating with the cardiologist in Rockford

every step of the way. Not many people can say they had 99%

blockage in their artery and walk away with no heart damage

at all… but I can. Dr. Berg and the Emergency Department

staff at RCH definitely saved my life.” – Ray Reineck, Rochelle

Lifestyle

HEALTHY COOKING OILSConfused about which oils are heart healthy and which aren’t? If so, you’re not

alone. Heart-healthy fats are derived primarily from plant oils, but – like fats – all oils

are not created equal. A single oil cannot be used for all your cooking needs. Due to

their chemical makeup, some are better suited for lower-heat cooking than others.

This is because heating oil above its “smoke point” – the temperature at which the

oil begins to smoke – produces toxic fumes and harmful free radicals (the stuff we’re

trying to prevent in the first place). A good rule of thumb: The more refined the oil,

the higher its smoke point.

Debbie Clark, Food & Nutrition Manager

• For searing, grilling and deep frying, oils that are best include almond, avocado

and sunflower. Almond oil is the highest in heart-healthy fats. Try drizzling it on

salads for extra flavor.

• For baking and stir frying, canola oil is a good choice.

• For light cooking such as sautéing, the best oils include extra virgin olive, corn,

walnut or pumpkin seed.

• No-heat oils include flaxseed and wheat germ. These work well for marinades,

salad dressing and dips. Flaxseed oil is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty

acids; it carries heart-healthy properties, is colon-friendly, and promotes good

skin. It will spoil quickly, so keep it refrigerated. Wheat germ oil contains an

abundance of omega-6 fatty acids. As with flaxseed oil, you must refrigerate

wheat germ oil.

A variety of healthy cooking oils can give your meals great flavor. Just remember: A

little oil goes a long way. For additional information on healthy cooking oils, visit the

American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
