Public input is the key to an effective planning process as it allows MCDOT and Montgomery County decision makers to understand the needs of the community.
Schedule After receiving public input and addressing the community’s concerns, MCDOT anticipates finalizing design plans this summer, obtaining state permits and beginning construction in late fall 2015.

Introduction
T he Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has initiated
the design for Section 3 of the multi-phased Clopper Road (MD117) Shared Use Path Improvement Project from Hopkins Road to Kingsview Road where the pedestrian and bike network is incomplete. In January 2013 MCDOT completed construction of Section 1, from Steeple Road to Hopkins Road, and Section 2, from Village Fountain Drive to Little Star Lane. Section 3, will fill in the missing link between Section 1, Section 2 and existing sidewalks and shared use paths serving the community as shown on the map to the right.
Newsletter Purpose The purpose of this newsletter is to notify you of the upcoming project, summarize the project’s scope and invite you to attend a Public Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2015.
Project Scope The project is located in Germantown, MD along Clopper Road (MD 117), a major h ighw ay which connects mul t ip le neighborhoods to major activity centers in Germantown. The proposed improvement project provides for the construction of approximately 1,600 linear feet of an eight foot minimum width off road shared use path along the north side of Clopper Road (MD117) from Hopkins Road to Kingsview Road.
The proposed Clopper Road Shared Use Path will provide improved connectivity and mobility throughout the corridor and will allow for safer access to public facilities such as the Ronald McNair Elementary School, Kingsview Middle School and Germantown Community Center as well as parks such as Leaman Park and Fountain Hills Park.
In addition, this project will complete a portion of the local area master plan recommendation for a dual bikeway (includes both an off-road shared use path for recreational cyclists and walkers and an on-road signed shared roadway or bike lane for more experienced cyclists) along this roadway which will provide an important connection to the Germantown Town Center and to the City of Gaithersburg.
