All 431 men diagnosed with prostate cancer over a period of one year in Stockholm county, alive and 50-80 years old at the time (18-24 months after diagnosis)

The present data shows that although women more often have access to emotional support outside the partner relationship, a substantial proportion of women do not – consequently psychosocial support of men with cancer should include supporting their spouse in her role as the primary emotional support for the patient.
