EWP (Energy Water Performance) is a tool that
allows existing office buildings to benchmark
themselves against the industry norm:
Requires 12 months of energy & water
consumption data
Normalises for vacancy, occupant density,
size, number of computers, weather
Score on a scale from 1-10, where 5 is
industry norm, and 10 is net zero / net positive
To achieve the EDGE standard, minimum savings of
20% in its three categories are required:
For new buildings &
major refurbishments
(Preliminary & Post
Construction)
Residential buildings only
in South Africa (other
building types elsewhere
in the world)
Net Zero / Net Positive Standard:
Available for Carbon (energy),
Water, Waste & Ecology
For new buildings, major refurbishments,
existing buildings in operation, tenants,
precincts
Leveraging off existing GBCSA standards, such
as Green Star, EWP and Edge where possible
Certification via existing tools or as stand alone
1. Efficiency
2. Onsite production
3. Offsite
