DNA• Because there are so many possible
combinations of bases and genes, each individual organism has a unique set of DNA.
• DNA can be found in all of the cells of your body except for red blood cells!

DNA contains the genetic information for cells to make proteins. Proteins determine a variety of traits, from hair color to an organism’s ability to digest food.

It took almost 100 years after the discovery of DNA for scientists to figure
out that it looks like a twisted ladder.

DNA Marshmallow lab
Today you are making a DNA model using white and colored
marshmallows, cheerios and spaghetti!

Part 2 marshmallow labReplication
• DNA REPLICATION – • occurs in the nucleus of a cell.
is the process in which and identical copy of a DNA STRAND IS FORMED FOR A NEW CELL
• It ensures that each daughter cell will have all of the genetic information it needs to carry out its activities.

RNA DNA
single stranded double stranded
found in the cytoplasm and the nucleus only found in the nucleus
has ribose as a sugar has deoxyribose as a sugar
has nucleotides adenine, uracil replaces thymine, cytosine, and guanine
has nucleotides adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine
RNA is different from DNA
![Page 11: DNA: The Code of Life. Why are lobsters blue? v=e2n1cwAXbaY v=e2n1cwAXbaY.](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062802/56649ecb5503460f94bd9914/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
There are two kinds of RNA• 1.MESSENGER RIBONUCLEIC ACID
(mRNA)- copies the coded message from the DNA in the nucleus mRNA will copy adenine with uracil instead of thymine mRNA carries the transcription message off the DNA into the cytoplasm, mRNA attaches to a ribosome
• 2.TRANSFER RNA (tRNA)- carries amino acids coded for with three nucleotides the amino acids then are add to the growing protein.
