Step-by-Step Installation & ConfigurationSAS® Data Loader for Hadoop (Trial Edition)With Hortonworks Sandbox on Windows

Introduction

Thank you for downloading SAS Data Loader for Hadoop

(Trial Edition). These detailed instructions will walk you through the

installation and configuration steps to run the trial software with

Hortonworks Sandbox on a Windows computer.

Before You Begin

To ensure a smooth, trouble-free installation, make sure that your

desktop or laptop computer meets the minimum system requirements:

• Operating system: 64-bit Windows 7 or later.

• Available memory: Minimum – 16GBTip: SAS Data Loader for Hadoop requires at least 4GB.

 An additional 4GB is recommended for Hortonworks Sandbox.

• Disk space: At least 30GB free.

• BIOS: Must be enabled for virtualization technology.

• Processors: Minimum – 2 cores (4 logical processors).

Recommended – 4 cores (8 local processors) or more.

• Web browsers: Windows Internet Explorer 9 or later; Mozilla

Firefox 14 or later; or Google Chrome 21 or later.

Step 1: Make sure you have the trialZIP file and your SAS license file.1. Your trial edition ZIP file should have downloaded to your

computer automatically.*

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the file’s location, and unzip it:

• If you use WinZip – Right-click the ZIP file, and select Open with

WinZip. In WinZip, click Unzip to expand the compressed files into

the current directory.

• If you do not use WinZip – Right-click the ZIP file, and select Extract

 All to expand the compressed files.

* Note: If you haven’t yet downloaded the ZIP file, follow the instructions in theDownloading SAS Data Loader for Hadoop (Trial Edition) box above.

2. Your SAS license file is attached to the SAS Order Confirmation you

received at the email address associated with your SAS profile.

Save the license file on your computer, and make a note of its

location here: ______________________________. You will need it later.

Downloading SAS Data Loader for Hadoop(Trial Edition)

Follow these instructions if you haven’t yet downloaded the

trial software.

1. Go to the SAS Data Loader for Hadoop website, and

click Download trial.

2. If you already have a SAS profile, log in. If you don’t

have a SAS profile, you will need to create one.

3. After you log in, read the Terms & Conditions page,

and click Accept Terms & Conditions.

4. An order summary page will appear in your browser,

and a SAS Order Confirmation email will be sent to the

email address associated with your SAS profile.

Tip: Your SAS license file, which you will need to install and

configure the software, is attached to the email. 

5. Click the blue Download link on the order confirmation

page or at the bottom of the confirmation email.

Tip: The file is approximately 3.6GB, so a high-speed Internet

connection is required.

6. The trial ZIP file will start downloading to your

computer.

Step 2: Install VMware Player or VMware Workstation.To run SAS Data Loader for Hadoop (Trial Edition), you’ll need to install a

supported virtualization environment – VMware Player 7 or later, or VMware

Workstation 11 or later – if you don’t already have one.

• Y ou can download and install one from the VMware website.

Step 3: Download Hortonworks Sandbox, and add it to VMware.1. Go to the Hortonworks website, search for HDP 2.2 on Sandbox for

VMware, and download it to your machine.

2. Open VMware Player or VMware Workstation.

In the right panel, click Open a Virtual Machine.

3. In the Open Virtual Machine window, navigate to the directory

where you downloaded HDP 2.2 on Sandbox, select the down-

loaded OVA file, and click Open.

4. When the Import Virtual Machine dialog box appears, accept

the default storage path, or choose another one, and click

Import .

Wait while the Hortonworks Sandbox virtual machine finishes

importing.

5. When the Hortonworks product information is displayed in

VMware Player or VMware Workstation, click Edit virtual machine

 settings.

6. Under the Hardware tab of the Virtual Machine Settings window,

select Network Adapter  in the left panel.

In the right panel, under Device status, select Connect at power on.

Under Network connection, select NAT: Used to share the host’s

IP address.

Then click OK .

7. Back in the main window, in the right panel, click Play virtual

machine orPower on virtual machine.

It may take a few minutes for the virtual machine to start.

Tip: Ignore the prompt that asks if you want to download VMware Tools

for Linux.

8. A console window will appear with information about the

Hortonworks Sandbox virtual machine, including the IP address.You will need the IP address in a later step, so make a note of it

here: ______________________________

Tip: If the cursor disappears, press Ctrl+Alt to restore it.

Step 4: Create a shared folder for your SAS files.Using Windows Explorer, create a folder called SASWorkspace (spelled

exactly as shown) on your local computer. Known as the “shared folder,”

the SASWorkspace folder will house all the files stored and referenced

by SAS Data Loader for Hadoop (Trial Edition). Make a note of the

folder’s location here, as you will need it in a later step.

Note: The folder name is case-sensitive and must be spelled exactly as shown– SASWorkspace.

Step 5: Add SAS Data Loader for Hadoop (Trial Edition) to yourvirtualization environment.1. Open a second instance of your virtualization environment by

going to VMware Player or VMware Workstation and clicking

Open a Virtual Machine in the right panel.

2. In the Open a Virtual Machine window, navigate to the directory

where you unzipped SAS Data Loader for Hadoop (Trial Edition),

and select the VMX file. Then click Open.

3. When the SAS Data Loader for Hadoop – TRIAL information is

displayed in VMware Player or VMware Workstation, click Edit

virtual machine settings.

4. Under the Hardware tab of the Virtual Machine Settings window,

select Network Adapter  in the left panel.

In the right panel, under Device status, select Connect at power on.

5. While you are still in the Virtual Machine Settings window, click

the Options tab.

Under Settings, click Shared Folders.

In the right panel under Folder sharing, select Always enabled.

Then click Add.

6. On the first page of the Add Shared Folder Wizard, click Next .

7. On the Name the Shared Folder page, click Browse

Navigate to the SASWorkspace folder you created in Step 4. 

Then click OK .

8. Make sure that theName field contains SASWorkspace. The

name is case-sensitive and must be spelled exactly as shown.

Click Next .

9. On the Specify Shared Folder Attributes page, click Finish to

accept the default selections and close the wizard.

10. Click OK  to close the Virtual Machine Settings window.

Step 6: Open and configure SAS Data Loader for Hadoop (Trial Edition).1. In the left panel of your VMware product, select SAS Data

Loader for Hadoop – TRIAL.

In the right panel, click Play virtual machine or Power on virtual

machine.

It may take a few minutes for the virtual machine to start.

  Tip: Ignore the prompt that asks if you want to download VMware Tools

for Linux.

2. A console window will appear, showing information about the

SAS Data Loader for Hadoop virtual machine, including the IP

address.

  Make a note of the IP address, as you will need it in the next

step: ______________________________

  Tip: If your cursor disappears, press Ctrl+Alt to restore it.

3. In a web browser on your local computer, enter the IP address

from Step 6.2, and press Enter .

The SAS Information Center window will appear in the browser,

with the Settings dialog box displayed.

4. In the Settings dialog box, make the following entries:

1. In SAS license, click Browse, and navigate to the location

where you saved your license file. (See Step 1.3).

2. In IP address, enter the IP address for Hortonworks Sandbox

(see Step 3.8).

Tip: Be sure that you enter the IP address for Hortonworks Sandbox,

not for SAS Data Loader.

3. In User ID, enter root. Use all lowercase letters.

4. In Password, enter hadoop.

5. Click OK .

SAS will apply the license and configure Hadoop. On some

systems, this could take 10 to 15 minutes.

5. When the start window appears, click Start SAS Data Loader .

The SAS Data Loader for Hadoop web application will open in

your browser.
