PART3EXECUTION3.01 PRE‐APPLICATION
A. Examinesurfaces tobecoatedandreportanyconditions thatwouldadverselyaffecttheappearanceorperformanceofthecoatingsystems,andwhichcannotbeputintoanacceptableconditionbythepreparatoryworkspecified.
B. TheContractorshallinsurethatmoisturecontentofsurfacesiswithinmanufacturer’s

withhigh‐pressureair.
2. Remove oil, wax, and grease in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations.
3. VerifywithOwner'srepresentativethatallsurfacestobecoatedaredry,clean,andfreefromdirt,dust,wax,grease,orothercontaminants.
4. Remove electrical plates, hardware, light fixtures, trim, and fittings prior to
preparingsurfaces.
5. Shellacand/orsealmarkswhichmaybleedthroughsurfacefinishesthatcouldnotberemoved.
B. Metals
1. Prepareallnon‐primedmetalsurfacesinaccordancewiththeSteelStructures
PaintingManual.
a. Sandblasting shall conform to The Society for Protective CoatingsSurface Preparations Specifications for *[near‐white blast cleaning(SSPC‐SP10)]*[commercialblastcleaning(SSPC‐SP6)].
b. Before blast cleaning begins, the Contractor shall prepare a sample
whichshallcorrespondtothephotographicstandardsofSSPC.
c. Proportions of sand, grit, or shot shall be adjusted as necessary toproduceapreparedsurfaceequivalenttothereviewedsample.
d. Applicationsofprotectivecoatingsshallbewithin8hoursafterblastcleaningandpriortotheformationofrust.
e. Surfaces showing any traces of rust shall be blasted again beforeapplicationofprotectivecoatings.
f. In areas where assemblies are to receive a sandblasted surface
preparation, and portions of the assembly have been previouslycoated, all prior coatings shall be removed by blast cleaning to theextentnecessaryforproperadhesionofthespecifiedcoating.

6. Abrasive Blast Cleaning: The surface shall be lightly abraded, in accordancewith ASTM D4259, without entirely removing the surface or exposing theunderlyingaggregates. Thecleanedsurfaceshallhavetheuniformtextureof100gritmediumsandpaper.
7. For concrete floors: Acid etch in accordance with ASTM D4260, abrade in
accordancewithpaintmanufacturersrecommendedprocedures.
