CHALMERS’ LIFE & MISSION

We welcome you to worship at Chalmers. If you are a guest, visitor or newcomer to Chalmers we reach out to you with hospitality and friendship in Jesus’ name. Please take a moment to fill in a guest card—available in the pew holder or from the welcome table. Completed cards may be placed in the offering plate, in the designated box on the welcome table, or given to Rev. John.

There will be a time of refreshments and fellowship in the lower hall. The striped mugs at coffee hour are for visitors. Please help our visitors feel welcome. Communion Elements

Following a trial last year with various gluten free elements, it has been recommended by Worship Committee, and approved by Session, that we revert to the previous practice of serving regular bread as well as gluten free bread. However, to ensure there is no cross contamination, the gluten free bread will be prepared and served separately. One Elder (this morning, Tom Hunter) will deliver the gluten free element and if you wish to receive this, please make yourself known to Tom. Please note also that grape juice is served as the “wine”. We hope that this arrangement serves everyone. Maureen Bruff, Worship Convener. Please note that the Life & Mission insert from the bulletin is available on the Chalmers website www.chalmerslondon.com

Breaking the Bread (please hold the communion elements until all

have been served that we may eat and drink together)

February 4: PWS&D Sunday PWS&D Sunday is a day to reflect on the work our church is doing to support marginalized and vulnerable people through programs in international development and emergency relief. Together, we are responding to those who struggle for basic necessities and helping families get what they need to rise above poverty, recover from emergency situations and freely pursue their hopes for the future. Today, we give thanks for compassionate individuals and congregations across Canada and dedicated global partners who follow Jesus, living for justice, mercy and peace. By sharing Christ’s love in vulnerable communities, we are helping build a more sustainable, compassionate and just world. PWS&D responds to needs around the world

The Salvation Army would like to extend a huge thank you for your support of the 2017 Christmas Kettle Campaign. With the dedication and help from Chalmers Church, we were able to provide 4,820 food hampers to local families this past Christmas and 6,536 children received a bag of toys. The funds that are raised at the kettles help make a difference to the thousands of families and individuals in our community that look to us for help during Christmas and throughout the year. We are pleased to tell you that we exceeded our goal of $550,000, reaching a grand total of $627,404!! Our calculations indicate that $12,246.08 was raised at the kettle location that was staffed by Chalmers during the kettle campaign.

LIBRARY NEWS

Pacific Rim Series by Don Brown The second book in this series is called Fire of the Raging Dragon and takes place in the South China Sea. Lieutenant Commander Gunner McCormick appears in this story too - but in a fairly minor role. War almost breaks out between China and the US. The daughter of the US president is stationed aboard a submarine in the South China Sea when a gruesome discovery escalates the war and the president has to make a decision on whether to rescue his daughter or take a stand against this discovery. WARNING - there is a gruesome part in this book - and I have marked it! I skipped over it - and still understood the whole story - and still enjoyed it. The warning with page numbers is noted on the front cover of the book. Christine Hunter, Librarian

Are you willing to do the Scripture Reading on a Sunday morning? If so, please let Rev. John or Lizz Thibodeau know. There will be a short training session some time in February to help everyone feel comfortable with the mic and to learn how to come through loud & clear. This is an opportunity for all ages! Please “speak up” if you’d like to be involved

There are lots of other ways to help too! Are you able to work a computer? Join the visual team. Can you point a camera? Help out with video. There’s also the sound team, the coffee & tea makers, the hosts, and so many more! It takes a large team of people on a Sunday morning so if you can help once a quarter, once a month or every week, let us know!
