Family Prayer

L oving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdi-ocese have appreciated the pray-

ers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Suc-cor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism.

We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives re-spect to the life and dignity of all people.

Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence.

Hear our prayer and give us the persever-ance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us.

Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family.

REFLECTION MAY 13, 2018 “Wait for the promise of the Father of which you have heard Me speak; for John baptized with water but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:4-5.

After the Ascension, one hundred and twenty followers of Jesus together with Mary gathered reg-ularly to pray in the upper room. Surely they were excited and per-haps some of them were appre-hensive, not knowing what to expect, but they were faithful to the words of Jesus and, “(They) devoted themselves with one accord to prayer with the women, and Mary the Mother of Jesus, and His brethren.” Acts 1:14

Soon we will gather together to celebrate the feast of Pen-tecost, our hearts filled with faith and anticipation. With hearts cleansed through the sacrament of Reconciliation we pray for a new outpouring of the spiritual gifts which we received through the sacraments of Baptism and Confirma-tion to strengthen us spiritually, as well as the charisms of the Holy Spirit to be used for the building up of our Church and community. Come Holy Spirit! Come Holy Spirit! Fill us and use us for the glory of God! Reflection by Anne-Marie d’Abadie Barrilleaux

The St. Joseph Sunday Missal explains how in today's Gospel (MK 16:15-20), "We are told what the mission of the church is: In continuing the Lords visible pres-ence on earth, the Church, you and I, must do what the Lord himself has done and wants us to do in His Name. By word and example we should preach the Good News."

According to a LIFE TEEN author, "This reality bears with it a mission and expectations." The LIFE TEEN author further states, "Jesus’ parting words are a com-mandment to go on a mission of evangelization." The author explains how this relates to Divine Mercy par-ish. "LIFE TEEN is the evangelization tool our parish uses to help our teens get to know and follow Jesus Christ." Come to an Edge or LIFE TEEN event and be a disciple of Jesus.

Vacation Bible School Early Registration for Vacation Bible School has begun. This year, the Camp will be available for children in grades K-6th, and it is taking place the week of July 9th-13th.

VBS is a summer camp program that includes daily scripture review and activities about how God plays a role in our lives. 7th-12th graders are invited and necessary to serve as volunteers. We are also in need of adult volunteers (college-aged or older). Parents, relatives, and other parishioners are encouraged to assist to ensure VBS runs smoothly.

Anyone who is interested in either attending VBS as a camper or volunteering, can print the appropriate form from the website (www.divinemercyparish.org), or sign up in back of church after Mass. Return forms before May 23 to Church, School Office or when Elementary Catechesis, EDGE, or LIFE TEEN meet. Contact: Jacques Delouche at [email protected] or Ryan Foulon at [email protected] for questions. Thank you very much and we hope to see many of you on this thrilling experience. God Bless You.

Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself en-tirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.
