Welcome Center
Please visit us, as we have been pleased to be a “very little tiny” channel of God’s mercy to everyone who enters the church of Saint Mary of Mercy through the opening of the Welcome Center. With Divine Mercy materials and with the presence of one of the Sisters of Merciful Jesus from the congregation desired by Jesus Himself, the Welcome Center has already been an amazing source of hope, consolation, and blessing to so many people! If you would like to visit our new facility at the entrance of Saint Mary of Mercy Church, please email [email protected].

PARISH NEWS
Seton LaSalle Catholic High School Honors Congratulations to Louis Dutkowski for his outstanding academic achievements! Liam received Honor Roll status at Seton LaSalle High School for the First Quarter.
Thank you for the 2020 World Mission Sunday/MCP contribution of $1,193.00. This year, October 18th marked a very different Mission Sunday as our annual appeal for the worldwide Eucharistic celebration of our shared call to mission was combined with our assigned MCP mission. It takes place during these unprecedented times of the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19. This money will help care for the poorest of the poor. I am grateful to you for your missionary spirit of prayer and sacrifice. During this month of October, Pope Francis reminds us that all baptized Christians are called to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ through prayer, meditation on the Word of God, and pilgrimage. Pope Francis reminds us to respond to the call "Here I Am Lord; Send Me"; we are all the "Church of Christ in the Mission World." World Mission Sunday provides us with an opportunity to revitalize our ardor, passion, and zeal for the faith and loving missionary hearts. More information about this collection and how you can have a year round connection with the mission church can be found through MISSIO at www.missio.org. Thank you for all you do to promote World Mission Sunday and the Mission Cooperation Plan!
2020 Retirement Fund for Religious retiredreligious.org
Thanks for giving! “We are conscious of the great generosity of the many benefactors who support the Retirement Fund for Religious each year,” says a Catholic sister. “Support from the fund has been a tremendous blessing to our retired sisters.” Thank you for donating to last week’s second collection!
The adult catechism course on our Blessed Virgin Mary complemented the Consecration to Jesus through Mary, because both forums enabled us as the Body of Christ to meditate on Our Blessed Mother and her intercessory role during the month of October. I was very grateful to the parishioners for all their assistance, support, and interest. The discussions inevitably lead to opportunities for future consideration of our Blessed Mother’s role in the Gospel and our lives today. Indeed, focusing on Our Blessed Mother during these difficult times in our society and the Church was enlightening and refreshing. Due to time constraints, we only touched upon some of the devotions to Our Lady with the hope that this initial invitation to discuss Our Blessed Mother will lead to further discovery through reading and discussion at home. I hope the adult catechism classes will spark an interest for us as members of the Church to learn and evangelize during these times. I plan to do more adult catechism courses when the COVID-19 crisis is further abated, so stay tuned! During the interim, I will seek to obtain a consensus from the members of the parish as to most convenient times for seminars as well as subject matter and types of forums as we grow together in faith. Thank you and have a Blessed Advent. -John Paul Corcoran

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Pope St. John Paul’s encyclical “The Gospel of Life” (Evangelium Vitae). To commemorate this pivotal document, Birthright of Pittsburgh each month will offer excerpts... From the “Gospel of Life” #66 Euthanasia must be called a false mercy, and indeed a disturbing “perversion” of mercy. True “compassion” leads to sharing another’s pain; it does not kill the person whose suffering we cannot bear. - Pope St. John Paul

Saint of the Week
By our devotion to the saints, our heavenly brothers and sisters in Christ who have gone before us, and by their prayers of intercession, fraternal charity is exercised, which contributes to the unity of the Church and aids us on our pilgrim journey.
PARISH COMMUNITY
Saint Nicholas Feast Day: December 6 St. Nicholas, also known as "Nikolaos of Myra," was a fourth century saint and Greek bishop of Myra. Nicholas was born in Asia Minor in the Roman Empire as an only child to Christian parents. Both of his parents tragically died during an epidemic when he was a young man, leaving him well off, but to be raised by his uncle, the Bishop of Patara. Nicholas was determined to devote his inheritance to works of charity, and his uncle mentored him as a reader and later ordained him as a presbyter (priest). A citizen of Patara had lost all his money, and needed to support his three daughters who could not find husbands because of their poverty. Nicholas became informed of this, and thus took a bag of gold and threw it into an open window of the man's house in the night. Here was a dowry for the eldest girl and she was soon duly married. At intervals Nicholas did the same for the second and the third. The Greek histories of his life agree he suffered an imprisonment of the faith and made a glorious confession in the latter part of the persecution raised by Dioletian, and that he was present at the Council of Nicaea and there condemned Arianism. It is said that St. Nicholas died in Myra and was buried in his cathedral.
Quote of the Week “The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic His giving, by grace, through faith, and this is not of ourselves.” ― St. Nicholas of Myra

The Order of the Mass - 1st Sunday of Advent B
Missa de Angelis Kyrie
You, LORD, are our father, our redeemer you are named
forever. Why do you let us wander, O LORD, from your
ways, and harden our hearts so that we fear you not? Return
for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage.
Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, with
the mountains quaking before you, while you wrought
awesome deeds we could not hope for, such as they had not
heard of from of old. No ear has ever heard, no eye ever
seen, any God but you doing such deeds for those who wait
for him. Would that you might meet us doing right, that we
were mindful of you in our ways! Behold, you are angry, and
we are sinful; all of us have become like unclean people,

Gospel Acclamation
MK 13:33-37 Gospel
Brothers and sisters: Grace to you and peace from God our
Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God
always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on
you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every
way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony
to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not
lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of
our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end,
irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is
faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his
Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not
know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling
abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge,
each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on
the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord
of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at
midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not
come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I
say to all: ‘Watch!’”

PS 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19 | Owen Alstott
I believe in one God, the Father
almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the
Only Begotten Son of God, born of the
Father before all ages. God from God,
Light from Light, true God from true
God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through
him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he
came down from heaven, and by the
Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin
Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under
Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and
was buried, and rose again on the third
day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated
at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the
living and the dead and his kingdom
will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the
giver of life, who proceeds from the
Father and the Son, who with the Father
and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and
apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism
for the forgiveness of sins and I look
forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
Show us Lord, your love; and grant us your salvation.
Homily Celebrant
all our good deeds are like polluted rags; we have all
withered like leaves, and our guilt carries us away like the
wind. There is none who calls upon your name, who rouses
himself to cling to you; for you have hidden your face from
us and have delivered us up to our guilt. Yet, O LORD, you
are our father; we are the clay and you the potter: we are all
the work of your hands.
