Websites for Kids

Dyslexia• Dyslexia is a learning disability some kids have with

reading and writing. It can make words look jumbled. This makes it difficult for a kid to read and remember what was read.

• This website is geared towards kids to help them understand what dyslexia is and what it is like.

ADHD • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is the impulsive

behavior and difficulty paying attention in class frequently

interferes and causes problems. • This website gives a list of signs and treatment options

available.

Websites for Kids

Autism• Autism is a developmental disability. Children with

autism have a problem with part of their brain. That means, kids with autism develop differently than most other kids. Children with autism may also have a different way of seeing, hearing, or feeling things.

Down Syndrome• Down Syndrome is a genetic condition that causes delays in

physical and intellectual development. They have certain physical features, such as a flatter face, upward slanting eyes, and a somewhat larger tongue. They may have medical problems, too, such as heart defects. And they usually have some mental retardation, which means they may have trouble learning.

• This website gives information to kids about what

life is like with down syndrome.

Blindness and Visual Impairments• A person who is blind cannot see and who’s vision

cannot be corrected. Visual Impairment is when a person has limited vision and it cannot be corrected.

• This website answers questions kids may have about blindness and how they function in everyday life.

Activity on Dyslexia

Students will receive handouts with jumbled phrases and they will have to

decode them.

Activity on ADHD

Have a speaker come in and describe ADHD in detail. Then have students write a short story on how they think it would be

to have ADHD.

Have ten boxes with objects in them and have students put gloves on and see if they can pick the object up and identify

what the object is.
